You can tell Andy had respect for that ad lib! That's why he included him I guess. He wanted them to act like themselves, but play it serious that he was their adoptive 'dad'. I think Pop (I'm a Brit) is more common among whites? Which I guess is the funniest part of the ad lib? So I think the lad was having his own troll of Andy!

I always have these moments with various types of artists. I rarely am into someone while they are at their peak, let alone climbing it. I only get into them when I feel I am ready for them. I'm 37 and I only really discovered stand up comedy after turning 30. Before that I never saw much need for it as I just saw it as people just telling jokes.

Damn, I just commented, "We all know Jim Carrey was a fan and played Kaufman in Man on the Moon, but Kaufman here with his sons totally had to inspire Jim and his three sons in Me, Myself and Irene....." but then I read your comment here after I posted mine and just deleted mine. lol. Good observation and I agree!

The thing about Andy Kaufman was that you never knew when he was acting or serious. I loved watching him as he was up and coming. I remember this episode. Rest In Peace Andy!

Andy knew just how to work his looks and personality into his audiences thoughts and feelings then just absolutely pull a Galagher abd just explode everyone's melons with either uncontrollable laughter or rage. I think for him the line was thin between the two, but nice he sided with laughter.

For some reason I feel like Kaufman and gene wilder are on the same wave length. I always thing of gene wilder when I see Andy. Not just for looks, but for the sweetness and immense talent they both shared. But then again it could be the dumbest comparison ever. That’s what makes Andy great he never leaves you settled in your thoughts of him, their constantly evolving, always for the better it seems
