Murray the only player to have beaten Djokovic in finals on hard, clay, grass and Indoor Hard. A terrific player up until that devastating injury.
@loyedloyed66022 ай бұрын
Stan Wawrinka owns a winning 2-0 major finals record (3-2 overall in finals) against Djokovic. The only man who can claim to have done so. Yet what is your point? Let's not pretend Murray is anywhere near Djokovic. They played each other only twice on grass when Djokovic had 1 Wimbledon title. On the other two surfaces, both indoors or outdoors Djokovic owned Murray.

Novak made every final he entered except Doha in this season. He only lost Dubai, Roland Garros, this one and the next one at Cincinnati against Roger. Every other tournament he entered, he won. Near domination. Murray deserved to be one of those to defeat Novak here in one of the four rare final losses.

I really struggle to understand how anyone that has followed the sport of tennis for 30 plus years could consider Djokovic to be the greatest to have played. I can't even make it though one of his matches without succumbing to boredom. I get that his numbers are great but he just lacks that X factor and magic that makes so many love sportsman like Federer or Jordan. I can remember in the mid 2000's I would jump at the chance to watch Federer play anyone regardless of ranking just to witness his latest magic trick (same with Jordan in the late 80's /early 90's). I can't imagine David Foster Wallace ever wanting to write about Djokovic.
@al1976-v7m3 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure DFW would have found praise for Djokovic since he was a grinder himself. Djokovic's qualities are a bit more hidden and may not jump out at you. But if his opponents play less than 95% of their level against him they will lose 100% of the time. His game style may not be as flamboyant as Federer's, but he is much stronger on return & defense which matters in today's game.
@RogerPham3 ай бұрын
It is the consistency that helps him win 90% of the time, but it is surely boring. As he got older he had coaches to improve and find that X in the net game and shot variation to make up for lost explosiveness, so it is quite better to watch tbh.
@TheSupinesmokey3 ай бұрын
@@RogerPham I was just going to say that . This is the best time to watch Novak play he doesn't have his OMG defensive skills to the level he did say 5 years ago. So he is forced to play attacking tennis more frequently and is good at it . So now he's much more entertaining to watch
