@@NickHeights that is only your silly assumption to suit your sad little agenda. You wouldn't be saying that if it was Murray instead of Djokovic. Lol. The game always evolves physically and improves over time. So it becomes more difficult to win titles as time goes by. It is not rocket science. Anyone who has followed Djokovic over the years will know that he became a complete different beast from 2014 onwards which includes on grass or any surface as well. No wonder why he pummelled Murray in the other 3 Majors after 2013 Wimbledon (woeful 0-5 in the Majors since which is a part of 14-3 overall in favour of Novak). The same thing would have happened in Wimbledon or any grass tournament too if not for a small grass season window and Murray being not really good enough (except for 2016 which was albeit won by him with the luck of the draw). Anyway your comment could have been legit if Djokovic and Murray played enough on grass across several years. The orginal comment which had a point about AO. One of the big factors why Murray never won that Australian Open Major. While Djokovic has nothing to prove on grass and Wimbledon by winning it a whopping 7 times, beating the likes of Federer and Nadal on the way, the guys who clobbered Murray at Wimbledon.

I think it goes back further than that. 2012 was his last fully fit year on tour. He had a back issue that he suffered with for 18 months or so before having surgery in 2013. His 2014 season was a bit of a write off. 2015 was relatively injury free, but he was building back and then his hip issues started to cause him problems in 2016. Without all the injuries Murray would have a ton more titles. Not saying he's up there with the big 3, bit definitely closer to them than Stan.

One thing I find interesting is Murray never lost to Djokovic on grass, even managed to beat Djokovic on clay once too. Murray beat Djokovic in the Final to win his first Slam AND his first M1000 title. Djokovic was Murray’s boogeyman in Australia. Sad to see the 2017 Doha Final was their last encounter. Murray fell off hard to injuries before that year was over. At least it was a great match.

It's crazy that Murray denied Djokovic's first title in Cincinnati for that long. In the end, Novak has the gene of the GOAT while Murray broke his body and never recover since RG 2017.
@loyedloyed6602
@loyedloyed6602 5 ай бұрын
You can't just compare like that without taking the full context into consideration. Grass seasons last only 1 month in a calendar year, while Murray and Djokovic played each other on that surface only twice in their entire careers until 2013 when Djokovic just had 1 Wimbledon title to his name. On the other hand they played each other 6 times on clay and the Serb turned out victorious on 5 occasions including twice at Roland Garros (Djokovic won the first 4 meetings on clay). Almost the similar situation on hard courts where Djokovic actually owns Murray there too, both indoors and outdoors (Djokovic won the first 3 meetings on hard).

A lot of the focus on Murray and his injury issues that derailed his career in 2017 but this rivalry clearly shows how impactful the surgery he had after the US Open in 2013. He spent the next 18 months working his way back to the top in which time Djokovic beat him numerous times, sometimes quite easily. By 2016, their matches got closer and Murray started winning some.

Hard to believe this is one of two rivalries to feature finals in each slam. Federer and Nadal never even played one match together in US, and Federer and Djokovic played in 2/4 slam finals. I am surprised that their last match was in 2017 (Doha final). At that point in time Andy and Nole were n1 and n2 respectively and everybody believed they would reign tennis for the next 4-5 years. This is by no means anything against Andy, I am jus lt saying that some opponents deserve a regular handshake and some deserve a warmer greet.
