Joan was an amazing performer - although her stage persona depicted her to be outspoken, brash and tough, she really was a warm, caring and vulnerable woman. The fact that she had the resilience to stand up and move on with her life after her world came crushing down with her being fired from Late Night, struggling to get a job, her husbands suicide and the cessation of her family, truly is remarkable. It's so sweet to see her be so gracious and appreciative of the wonderful life she's had. Thanks Joan for the laughs, and the life lessons. You will be missed xx

A very funny and determined woman who took full financial advantage of young comedy writers without batting an eyelash. As generous and caring as she could be when it served her purpose, she could also show alarming insensitivity toward the feelings of others. The Johnny Carson fiasco is legendary.
