Wise beyond words... Except the words you used. However those words were the words you used so those words are also wise beyond words, or all the other words. This is all Carnie Ninja Monk wisdom, so I don't expect most of you to be able to follow along or understand (except rotoninja, obviously) since most of you can't tie your shoes and don't even know to sit on your hand for 5 minutes before masturbating so it will like someone else is doing it (its called the stranger). Just know this is high level, but also really deep shit. Once you've solved the to he secrets in that sentence you are ready to start your Carnie training. Good luck to you all.... Well except anyone named Douglas Randall Junior. Never met anyone with that name, but fuck that person. They can't be trusted, trust me.

I'd go further. This "extra ability to learn" he's talking about is the same sense of arrogance that the fresh college graduates have after being "overtrained." Most military people take that sense of entitlement to the private sector after they get out and fall flat on their face, just like the college grads do. Being an olympian runner, jumper diver and swimmer actually doesn't have a lot of application in the private sector. Those jobs are few, far between, and already occupied by somebody more experienced.

The DOD has 21 TRILLION dollars worth of fraudulent accounting entries. "For decades, the DoD’s leaders and accountants have been perpetrating a gigantic, unconstitutional accounting fraud, deliberately cooking the books to mislead the Congress and drive the DoD’s budgets ever higher, regardless of military necessity. DoD has literally been making up numbers in its annual financial reports to Congress-representing trillions of dollars’ worth of seemingly nonexistent transactions-knowing that Congress would rely on those misleading reports when deciding how much money to give the DoD the following year, according to government records and interviews with current and former DoD officials, congressional sources, and independent experts." "The fraud works like this. When the DoD submits its annual budget requests to Congress, it sends along the prior year’s financial reports, which contain fabricated numbers. The fabricated numbers disguise the fact that the DoD does not always spend all of the money Congress allocates in a given year. However, instead of returning such unspent funds to the US Treasury, as the law requires, the Pentagon sometimes launders and shifts such moneys to other parts of the DoD’s budget. Veteran Pentagon staffers say that this practice violates Article I Section 9 of the US Constitution, which stipulates that No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time." www.thenation.com/article/pentagon-audit-budget-fraud/ Fraud and treason on a massive scale.

Without making any direct comparison to the US Seals, I'd like to note that in Finland after the basic military training one can choose to get some additional training, which in my part was the coastal jaeger training, which contained several survival and hypothermia exercises. My point being, that one does not have to be an elite or seek a military carrier in order to go through the exercise described in this video.

I think a lot of it is the "First Time Syndrome". People are innately afraid of the unknown. But, most of the time, once you encounter or "do" something you find scary, it isn't. Or at least not as much. I learned this about 30 years ago when I was around 18. Since then I like to "do stuff" that others may find odd, strange, or even 'crazy'; like going swimming in an ice-cold lake in the fall (I live in the Yukon; lake water starts to get pretty dang cold in September!). Or walking outside 100' to the car and back...wearing cut-off's, in winter, at -47C (about -53F). No shoes, socks, or shirt. Never done it, so I did. I didn't die. Go figure. ;) Same thing with a LOT of other things...like trudging through a cold muskeg area. Could I hit some 'silt' and sink up to my balls, get stuck, and die? Yup. So I took my time, used a stick to probe ahead, and ignored the mosquitoes and leeches. Anyway...the point is, once you've jumped into the freezing ocean in the middle of winter, and you don't die, if that situation ever comes up unexpectedly (boat sinks, for example), you won't start freaking out. Because you've "been there, done that" and you know what to expect. It's no longer "fear of the unknown". I think THAT is why they make you do all these 'survival' things more so than to train you to survive them. Your mind is a POWERFUL aid to not-dieing; if you panic, you die. Don't panic...you have a chance. If you've done "it" before, you can do "it" again (whatever "it" is).

I was in the military for 15 years. I was NOT a SEAL, but I was in the Navy (SeaBee). The pain/learning component is very important. It helps you remember your training. Some people are able to learn by reading and others need to learn visually. This way of teaching covers both types of people. My Dad always told me “what you can’t learn through your ears. You will learn through your ass”. Crude saying, but very true!! This is the reason why I feel the military trains people in this way. I think it would be even more applicable to Navy SEAL training. Just my opinion.

I agree exactly with what you are saying. Unfortunately the system becomes just like big government, it merely fuels its own perpetuation, rather than having a desired end goal which is constantly evaluated. Add a component of accepting discomfort, let down and sacrifice based on hardship, imagine what the system could accomplish. We are weak, over fed and not hungry.

Course that is the problem though, he didn't do even a quarter of the stuff he was trained to do. Seals are super expensive to train and almost always underutilized. That's why you'll often hear about, say, Force Recon being pressed to do jobs SEALS would usually be tapped to do, because the SEALS are so few they just have to make do with the next best group.

Most people will not appreciate what he is on about. Its about knowing yourself. To do such jobs, you have to know yourself enormously. There is something about suffering, that teaches the rational brain enormous amounts. Of course lots are not rational, and will not learn much. But things like seals, are looking for those whom learn from suffering, whom are rational enough, to come through it. Suffering is never a nice thing, but if you have a rational brain, you will learn from it. Such people, must have a decent amount of imagination, they need it lol. Not caring about dying, and knowing your body can go through enormous amounts, teaches you alot. You end up having suffered so much, pain, is not really a factor anymore. The mind is a weird thing, but all you people that pass seal training, will understand how pain effects you.

Just in case you're unsure of the point of that, it can be beneficial both to himself and to others for him to do that. Some people do that to comprehend something better; others comprehend things better once they hear it a different way. It's also a way to show someone you're talking with that you 'get it' and/or are interested in them continuing. Maybe Joe does it with the content he's hearing in mind; maybe he does it with his vast audience in mind; and maybe he does it with his guest in mind. Or some combination, changing purposes and motivations as the conversation flows.

Joe is just not that intelligent. His best interviews are when his subject is intelligent (like this Navy Seal guy or Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins). Even with MMA he says silly things like making presumptuous and insulting accusations about a fight being thrown.

"If you want peace, prepare for war". Doesn't matter if you never USE certain aspects of your training. The point is to be prepared for as many possibilities as you can. Imagine being thrust into Arctic conditions during warfare, with zero equipment and training. Ask the Germans how that worked out for them in Russia (1941). And they were far North people. Thank you, sir, for your service, and the life of freedom it has provided me.

He is describing the express route to becoming educated. Educated in the proper sense of the word. Not the misuse in the "education" system, which is teaching, instruction, training, schooling. Usage: Education, properly a drawing forth, implies not so much the communication of knowledge as the discipline of the intellect, the establishment of the principles, and the regulation of the heart. Instruction is that part of education which furnishes the mind with knowledge. Teaching is the same, being simply more familiar. It is also applied to practice; as, teaching to speak a language; teaching a dog to do tricks. Training is a department of education in which the chief element is exercise or practice for the purpose of imparting facility in any physical or mental operation. Breeding commonly relates to the manners and outward conduct. [1913 Webster]

Of all the training the SEALs and other military units do, I gotta assume the cold stuff is the worst. I’m from Saskatchewan, where all of us have experienced a bit of frostbite at least once, we just went through a -50 C streak recently, and it just drains you like I assume torture does. Just all the energy in your body, gone, you feel like a walking husk after spending the day shivering that badly.
