I got this album when it came out. I don't remember why. I was a metalhead. I was not a Duran Duran fan and normally would not have bought a pop album at all, For some reason, though, I got this (Steve Jones being on the album probably had something to do with it). I really dug this whole album and played it on repeat for several months. Good guitar based heavy pop with solid hooks. I didn't know anybody else who had this album, though. It was like a guilty secret of mine. I still think it's underrated and don't know why it wasn't a bigger hit. This song, "I Might Lie" and "Trembling" should have all been radio hits.

That's why he first left DD. He wanted to do harder rock that DD wasn't interested in doing. So he does a bit of everything. It wasn't because of a big fight. Other then Nick being a duck not wanting to do other things that the rest of the group wanted to. He figured that since he was the main founder of the band. That he could make the band do what he wanted. But see what happened? Both Andy and John left for Power Station for a couple years. You should read Andy's book.

I just discovered all this. Hindsight is always 20/20. It appears that Andy not only launched a new era of pop/rock in the early '80's with Duran Duran...he rode the wave into the hair metal scene before it was even popular in the U.S and all his music was excellent. I remember the Single "Take it Easy" when American Anthem came out....I lived down the street from a movie theatre and I was addicted to MTV. But the internet had not been invented yet. There was no way to know that Andy had his own band outside of that single and I was only 12 years old, what did I know. Now that I have time to research things I used to love, I stumbled on Andy and now I'm addicted to his life and music life a drug, I can't get enough and I pray to all those music maniacs like me to rediscover Andy Taylor as I did and celebrate his catalog and pray for him the way he truly deserves. May the universe embrace and guide you ANDY !AMEN FOR BRINGING THE PLANET SO MUCH JOY🙏

This was the real Andy Taylor. Technically in every band, there has to be constant negotiation and teamwork. Within a group, one is always bound to lead while the others tend to follow, and he just happened to fall in as one of the followers. That sort of placed him in the shadows as a DD member.
@cubdukat3 жыл бұрын
This album ended up being part of the reason why he quit DD. He liked doing this kind of music and he got sick of fighting all the time with Simon and Nick, so he just refused to come back for "Notorious" until they threatened to sue him, and then things were so unpleasant that they finally just let him out of it.
@debraricobene48562 жыл бұрын
They did him wrong the second time around. Its a shame they are good but he makes them even better.
@srxt67582 жыл бұрын
@@cubdukat Andy Taylor in my opinion a rock oriented guy that got stuck in a pop band somehow. Gave incredible feedback to DD music as a guy that was never rly oriented towards pop. The reason why his solo career wasnt as good is should have been is because he will always be Duran Duran. Not to mention mid 80s were already to late to start releasing Bon Jovi type music. We already had the OG one. Once you got your first fame wave with whoever you were with at the time your gonna get remembered by it. He managed to get JT on the project with him because JT was the guy who also liked many types of music and liked to experiment. Nick and Simon you could tell were not rock guys and about Roger I know very little. Both Andy and JT had the rockstar phase during the mid 80s. Wore black leather and had mullets so Andy noticed an allie in him and covinced him to do the power station project as they were friends and knew their style of play. Andy probably wanted to push but because they were accustomed to the fame wave they thought results will come easy but they didnt and power station wasnt rly like a major hit. Doesnt mean they dont have great songs. I also have an opinion that JT never wanted Duran Duran to fall appart he tried to help Andy in PS as a side project but thought Andy will stay in Duran Duran to help them even if it was behind the scenes. He later came to his senses. Andy for some reason had a fall out with Simon and that was that. JT returned for Notorious and the album was amazing. They later made Ordinary world which was more of a Simon type song. I cant imagine Andy Taylor working on a song like that. The song was the last big hit Duran Duran had. They still continue to make music but in my opinion Duran Duran was pretty much over after 1993. It doesnt have the same magic today. You can only listen to their new stuff and let nostalgia carry you knowing the OG boys made this. But thats pretty much it.

Sorry, but there's no truth in your statement. Duran Duran was never a product created by managers. This was merely just assumed, I guess just because they were a bunch of good looking guys and attracted a huge female teenage fan base. They did their own thing, wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, did their first gigs at the Rum Runner in Birmingham in the late 70s. As a long time fan, I'm so fed up with these false assumptions.

He has a bit of a Bon Jovi rock ‘n roll vibe. His sound is edgier compared to the glam pop sounds of Duran Duran. To me looking at him as a solo artists was like signing a death warrant for his own music career. Once people remembered you from where you were or where you began, they never forget.

I think Bon Jovi is a fair comparison. You could call this almost hair metal or even just generic 80s rock. I’d say “light” glam metal” which is really what Bon Jovi was at the time as well. It’s a damn good album in any case.

Andy Taylor was a like a little boy trying to escape dettention in Duran Duran. From the beginning he was like a odd man out. More of a rocker and a vibrant guy whereas Simon was all melancholic slower song type of guy. He held on for couple of years but then got tired of it. People and opinions change and clash all the time. That was the case here. What a shame because they somehow gelled together despite their different contrasts. Duran Duran produced some freaking amazing albums in the 80s especially early 80s with Andy still in. Guitar rifs in Girls on film, Planet earth, Reflex, Wild boys I can name many of their songs. I love them all. Even after Andy left Duran Duran had some amazing songs. Notorious for example. But they defo switched to a different more dark and mysterious theme. I think 1985 was their weakest year. View to a kill is the only song I remember from that year. Album also had a large contrast in songs which is ironically the year Andy left. He was tired of it simple as that. He wanted guiter rifs and blasting on a guiter and Simon was not that type of guy.
