Andy Van Slyke! My all time favorite Cardinal as a kid. Not Gibby, not Brock, not Ozzie......Andy Van Slyke! For four years as a Cardinal he only had a .259 batting average. 104 stolen bases. 41 homeruns. And 204 RBI's. But Van Slyke as a center fielder left it on the field EVERY GAME! A true throw back player that just hustled every play. Defensively as a outfielder I would put him up against Jimmy Baseball any day. And Jim is one of my all time favorite Cardinals also. Great to hear Andy's take on the Hall. Great show!

Can't stand all the Edmonds hate in this video. He was amazing! I don't care if he was a little theatrical, he was one of the best.

Love edmonds too, and as a fan we love those diving catches. But can totally see as a player and fellow cf you could look at that differently. And I dont see it as hate. They were talking about hof and why his def #s don't match rolen, and those are facts as to why that is.

If you have to argue for a guy to get in, he probably shouldn't be in. And there is NOTHING wrong with NOT voting someone in every year. Don't know why these voters think SOMEBODY has to get elected in every year.....Love McGriff getting in. Almost 500 hrs (a shoe in number) and one of the most feared left handed power hitters in his time.

I don’t care for war but there really should be an average war per year stat because a player with 20 years will potentially have a higher war than a 10 year player who was a superstar that had injuries that cut career short but deserves to be in hall

All the "Steroid" players are not getting in and therefore votes are going to players that normally wouldn't get them. Just my thoughts.

Even if Dejong wins the starting job at short their will be enough plate appearances and infield playing available if they use the DH correctly.

Sigh. Weary of having to do this. “Does he feel like a hall of Famer.”You tell me. Rolen finished 3rd all time in both defensive runs saved and average WAR in a 162 game season at 3B. Moreover only he and Schmidt had at least 300 home runs and 8 gold gloves. And reference Simba; he averaged in the top 10 in either batting average, on base percentage or OPS 15 times. The next best Hall of Fame catcher 9, 3rd 6. If he had played for the Yankees he’d be considered one of the greatest. Which he is. Reality check on Jimmy ballgame. Andruw Jones is 22nd all time for all positions in defensive runs saved with 24.4. Edmonds is tied in 490th place with 6.6. If Jimmy gets in it will have to be for hitting. Fielding secondary. And yes, Andruw Jones should already be in.

I watched them both Andruw Jones and Jim Edmonds play a million times. I conclude that defensive runs saved is not a useful stat whatsoever.

Agreed with Van Slyke on everything, Andruw Jones is a HOF'er no doubt! Still not sold on Rolen getting in and definitely not Edmonds!!........ HALL OF FAME, not Hall of Good!.......Too many "good" players getting in. Its meant for Legends, and we knew who they were WHEN they were playing....Pujols, Griffey, Jeter, Mantle, Mays, Gwynn, Musial, Aaron, Ted Williams etc!!!!!

Agreed. I guess they are relying more on the defense for Rolen. Kinda like the Ozzie Smith effect.

I think it was more that andy thought he was the better defender, but edmonds got more praise for his "diving catches", that maybe not always needed a dive.

@@andyo4317 Current or former players of the same team should not do that though. If they do, there is either a personal problem or the one running their mouth is jealous. I watched the entire Cardinal careers of both. Edmonds was by far the better player on both sides of the ball.

Ty Cobb wasn't a known racist. He was exactly the opposite. Just goes to show you what lies do to damage reputations. Should the people who purvey such lies face backlash? Should Andy Van Slyke be banned from the Hall of Fame because he chooses to purvey such lies?
