Jonathan Winters could deliver a straight line in such a way that it became totally hilarious.Any comic can deliver a funny line and get laughs;it takes a comic genius to do a serious line and still get laughs.

I dearly loved the Andy Williams Show and watched it every time it was on. Jonathan Winters was hilarious and it was wonderful way back when comedians could make fun of all types of people without getting into trouble. Comedy was great back then!

Andy Williams actually had a pretty hip show, and Jonny Winters was on it fairly often. Some Winters I haven't seen... what a treat. The "Johnny Carson" context for it makes it both Showbiz Inside Baseball, and a very savvy plug on one NBC show for another NBC show.

Williams loved working with Winters, ever since his first TV show in the 50's...two unlikely people who meshed perfectly.

Did anyone else think that ‘Aunt Cora’ sounded an awful lot like Jonathan’s character Maud Frickert, who often used to appear on Dean Martins show? I wonder if they were related?!👵🏻

Love Jonathan winters! Didn’t care for Andy! Not sure why?! Guess he made me feel like he was a fake.. like a fake, personality?! Like .. you wouldn’t trust somebody like him.Not sure why,maybe he was a nice person. But something there I just can’t trust!

hehe, There is absolutely no chemistry between Jonathan and Andy. Andy is very stilted here and probably in his personal life as well, and even though he's smiling throughout the sketch it didn't seem like he wanted to be there. He was like a duck out of water. I get the feeling Andy is very religious and conservative and unless you were someone from his social class wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire.
@laverite94564 жыл бұрын
Andy was a singer more than a comedian/singer such as Dean Martin. Andy rehearsed a lot, whereas Winters was extemporaneous. Anyway Andy was not a fake, but perhaps a bit laconic. Jonathan was just off the wall.

The producers had to use canned laughter because the audience wasn't buying it. The host smiled politely. Don Rickles , Rodney Dangerfield, Johnny Carson and even Dean Martin were legit funny back in those days. They didn't need canned laughter with live audiences. Johnny Carson's favorite comic was Rickles. Winter's "comedy" relied not on wit but on his acting and facial expressions which, for many, got old quickly or simply wasn't funny at all. I've watched many videos of his, always hoping to find what the hype was about and remain puzzled at how so many call him the funniest man ever. I thinkbmany just bought into the hype without using objective thought to pass judgement. In that regards, Winter was an amazing self promoter.

No canned laughter in this, nor in his many appearances on Jack Paar, Dean Martin and Carson. I suspect something about his characters riles you, since you seem to protesteth too much.
@Xbangsplot3 жыл бұрын
@@lcs1956 Its canned. When he says "hello boys and girls and people of all ages", they use canned laughter because nobody is finding any wit or humor in that line. There are many lines like that one, totally devoid of humour and followed by recorded laughter.
