Not just not top seven, but not top fifty. I know some fans will deluge me with hatred. I don't care. I can think of four entire albums where every single song on them is better than The Voice. Without even having to think about it: Days of Future Passed, Every Good Boy Deserves Favor, In Search of the Lost Chord, and Seventh Sojourn. The Voice is just not that good, at least compared to the rest of their catalog.

@@scottingram7634 That was such a signature of their albums during that period that even their "greatest hits" collection, "This Is The Moody Blues" (which came out during the hiatus between "Seventh Sojourn" and "Octave") was mixed so that each song *still* segued into the next, even though they were all originally from different albums! ("This Is..." also used different mixes from the original LP versions for a number of tracks.)

The Moody Blues are a band that often blends and fades one song into another. "The Story in Your Eyes" is actually the second cut off the 'Every Good Boy Deserves Favour' released in 1971. The opener is a prog masterpiece, "Procession," which is kind of apocalyptic in theme. The album is #6 of the MB "classic 7" records released from 1967-72. The Moodies had FIVE songwriters and 4 LEAD vocalists (depending upon the composer of the song itself)!! Most of the well-known songs were written and sung by the guitarist, Justin Hayward (yeah, the guy who sung "Nights in White Satin). 💙💙💙💙💙🎸🎤🎼

Love, love, love... "For My Lady", I believe it's written and arranged by the late flutist, Ray Thomas. It's fair to say The Moody Blues were so versatile musically during the 1960's into the 1970's, face it you've got superb flute, keyboards through the roof, solid drums, great lead guitar, and master bass guitar. The thing about the Moody Blues of this era, for a string of seven concept albums in a row each song is tucked between other songs that flow so well together that, at a minimum, an album side is the only way to absorb the full flavor of the sauce.

The "strings" in so many Moody Blues songs are actually a Mellotron, a primitive sampling keyboard which used analog tape to record different sounds. The Beatles used a Mellotron on "Strawberry Fields" and some other things. Moodys keyboard player Mike Pinder was their secret weapon. They were never the same after he left the band.

There is a HUGE difference between these last couple of generations and ours from this period. We are/were "album oriented" folks, these are "singles" oriented folks. We listened to entire albums without interruption (except to get up and flip the disc over) and they have playlists of singles. Not a knock, just an observation. So many albums from our period simply deserve to be played through as a whole! The Moody Blues are some of the Kings of concept albums!

This is such a top tier band and they are as good live as they are in studio. All these old bands had to be good to compete in a serious rock market. That voice is perfect and that driving guitar and drums just adds that rock element to the outstanding harmonies. The bass snaps it all together into a perfect package. Thank you for this, at least an A+ for me.

'Question' seems to be the overwhelming favorite, and there are a LOT you can't go wrong with. I'll throw one out there that's definitely one of their very best - 'You And Me'. It has an awesome intro and outro and the 'main song' is great as well. A great song off the last of the 'first seven' albums by them - their first album was the original incarnation of the band and was quite different. Justin Hayward and John Lodge replaced Denny Laine (who went on to be a member of Wings for their first several albums) and Clint Warwick in late 1966. They were originally a cover band more or less. playing the mid 60's, English version of R & B. With Hayward joining and Mike Pinder taking up the mellotron they became a completely different band. Whenever you hear 'horns' or 'strings' it's Pinder's mellotron (Days Of Future Passed had an orchestra playing music that was mostly in between their actual songs). The mellotron gave them a really unique sound and helped make them who they were. 'You And Me' - check it out!

The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights In White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Ride My See-Saw", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" & "Your Wildest Dreams".
