That was fun to make! :) What do you think gives the 90's move vibe? Check out our video with Nerdforge and William Faucher here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6jchp2KgpiHb5Y Check out our video about the new Nikon Z8 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6HIhYOnr9d6qbc

Super Video but for me most important was a camera with the tape or whatever they use to movie looks like movie. Not really like how now movies looks like most like recorded with normal high-end digital camera.

Nothing comes close to the feel and emotion of a dolly. Especially the motorized, computer stabilizers, even tho you can't see that it is a gimbal, your eye tends to pick up the micro-jitters from the motors so you don't get that smooth cinematic feeling, that can ruin an emotional scene. That is why I prefer using a slider with a fluid head on top, it is not a dolly and is limited, but it feels so organic, smooth and I can control very precise where the camera travels, compared to a gimbal that you kind of guess a bit, especially with detailed tracking, but that is just my opinion. Anders, you are a big inspiration and when you keep making these amazing videos with endless amounts of value, that is incredible. Thank you, and thank you to the rest of the team! :-)

I think one of the biggest things you nailed here was making real choices as a director, rather than just shooting 'cool' shots & trying to figure it out in the edit. You also actually blocked your actors instead of having them just stand there and moving the camera around, which for some reason is a bit of a lost art (and what directors like Spielberg or Zemeckis do perfectly). Very nice work!

I noticed the shot at 19:25 I think Mathias should of walked to his right, and not left. It looked a bit awkward leaving the from the opposite of where he was looking. Overall SO GOOD.

I also own the CamDolly rig! 💪 I actually know the guy who made and developed it! It is a Slovenian creation! Mine also sits on the shelf, too big for a small team... You need to have a grip unit for it. But it is very practical when you don't have a big budget for a professional dolly cart! Great video! 👍👍👍

i think what gives 90s vibe is more of vivid with less contrast colors..You guys nailed the movement but would be better if you went for more of anamorphic 90s vibe with oval bokeh hahahaha ..Thats just my opinion since i was a big fan of 90s anamorphic look hahahaha

For the Vertigo shot you can also keyframe in post.. you will get the same effect but smoother and without focal length distortion.
@Andyax
@Andyax Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea!
@TheLittleKingRyan
@TheLittleKingRyan Жыл бұрын
But the focal length distortion is the whole point of a Vertigo shot. That's what makes it feel so unsettling and impactful. A digital zoom with keyframes to scale the footage will feel fake, because you're just scaling the footage. I would recommend analyzing Spielberg's Vertigo shot from Jaws. It is the perfect example of why the changing focal length is so crucial to achieving that sense of being overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment.
@TYPE1media
@TYPE1media Жыл бұрын
@@TheLittleKingRyan yeah I agree, but when trying to manual zoom a photo lens you get micro stuttering, for this purpose on the video personally I would’ve keyframed in post, you will still get the ‘vertigo’ effect which technically is called Dolly Zoom, you still do your dolly in or out manually and then match in post, the only thing that will be different from doing it manually is that you won’t get the width of the subject being effected by focal length, but you will still get the impression that the background is shrinking or expanding which ultimately is what makes a dolly zoom cool. Personal opinion of course 🙂 just a different way of doing it.

You'd be surprised by how many movies and TV shows still shoot with what we call a "Chapman Dolly" or a "Fisher Dolly". What's cool about those, is that you can boom the camera up and down using the built in compressor reframe or use in your shot. But it takes a big Grip crew to set up all the tracks if, especially if you're shooting outdoors!

I use a dolly on every set that isn't run and gun. You can't beat. My preferred method is 12ft jib on a tracked dolly. Amazing for camera movement and immediate camera repositioning. HUGE time saver!

On the final result the dolly shots at the beginning are shaking/lagging. Is it because it was stable on the road ? Because the idea is cool and the product seems very usefull but when i saw the result I thought "should have been better at the end with a gimbal, because the effect is strange like is some frames were lagging or the rolling of the dolly not smooth". Do you see ?

@birdonfiremedia
@birdonfiremedia Жыл бұрын
I assume the hardest part would be keeping it level and going in a straight line? That's not what makes it special though, at least for me. What makes these shots work is actually planning and executing an intentional move. Its the intention that's often missing in gimbal work, as the freedom to move it any direction often leads to filmmakers not thinking about what the shot should actually be. The result is a floaty, dreamy (probably also slow motion), beautiful shot that says nothing about the story or characters. A good example of floaty shots with intention is how Spielberg does his oners, or Guillermo Del Toro's work in The Shape of Water where he deliberately wanted the camera to float like it was underwater the whole time.

In the 80's and 90's white men were still allowed to be characters to aspire to, not just arrogant losers needing to be saved by - fill in any of the today's 'heroes'. - If you want to be a rebel today, make something traditional story and roles. The dolly shots and the cool dolly zoom are looking cool thought!
