I'd say we're a while off a new OS, but I'd guess eventually they'll do their own wearable version of the hacked to bits androidish thing they have on the Echos. Amazon devices really all need an OS overhaul.

I really like your videos, and as a subscriber I generally agree with your views and learn a lot from them. But I really disagree with the premise of the title of this video that Amazon is "trying to control EVERYTHING." (What you actually say in the video is actually much more positive than your title's premise. I was relieved to conclude that the ominous title was just a "teaser!") Yes, some of the products introduced the other day strike me as somewhat ridiculous and/or redundant, but I certainly don't feel controlled or compelled to buy them, and I can't imagine anyone else feeling controlled or compelled to buy them. What I view Amazon as doing is continually expanding its line of products and services, giving consumers the opportunity to consider new ideas or suggestions as to what else existing or would-be Alexa owners might want to do next with their Alexa households. Amazon is making more and more electronics available which work together with a minimum of effort on the part of consumers! In my view that is not a bad thing! It is a good thing and it challenges the competition to catch up on compatibility and connectivity issues. While it may be unlikely that competing products like FitBit and Google Nest will come to an "end" just because Amazon keeps introducing new and more versatile products, but if they do fail it will be their fault for not keeping up, not Amazon's fault! Amazon prominently features and sells their competitors' products! Does Google do that? Does FitBit? As a business and economics major in my youth (and someone who has no connection with Amazon other than as a satisfied customer) what I see Amazon as doing is moving the entire industry of home electronics and convenience and security products forward. That benefits both consumers and industry. Their competitors will have to keep up, which is good for consumers, or fall by the wayside and be replaced by more agile competitors. (Stepping down from my rickety soapbox for another cup of retirement coffee.)

Lots of good points there, and unfortunately a consequence of youtube is the need for catchy titles. ;) While I'm generally positive on what they're doing one thing to note is that Amazon have in the past removed and / or down graded competitors products on their platform in favour of their own. They're not alone in what they're doing though.. see Apple taking on Tile with their own tracker. I suppose the cautionary tale I do want to get across is Amazon are buying medical companies to provide prescriptions in the US as well as food companies and retail stores. Its hard to choose a competitors product if they're that deeply integrated. This doesn't even begin to talk about their AWS services which is now so key to so many organisations. Personally I agree other companies should adapt or move out of the way in general, but it does mean, because of their horizontal and vertical integration they could in theory wedge out anyone, particularly smaller smart home companies. My dissertation was about the connection between smart home devices and consumer shopping patterns and it did open my eyes to the longer term plan on Amazons behalf and it will make it harder and harder for smaller companies to compete without at least loosing a considerable chunk of their margin to Amazon. Interesting conversation though and probably more to come. :) Ps.. Not a fan of Google nest at all tbh, particularly since they've closed off much of their eco system to smaller developers and makers, so tbh i wouldn't mind if they moved on to something else. Fitbit is now a Google company so its just funny that Amazon are targeting that side so heavily, and will soon use their ability to supply food, supplements etc as part of their offering which Google can't do. Reminds me of BK versus McDonald's :D Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
