I can't get enought of that opening jam! Reminds me of Summer in the 70's. (And also "The Rockford Files music - in a good way) And a little Joe Walsh latter on...you can't get better. Maybe a little Rolling Stones style Phaser(Tattoo You), would have been cool also.

I have gradually come to the conclusion that "offset" is a necessary control-featue for any phaser. By "offset". I mean the point in the spectrum where the phasing begins its sweep. Sometimes you want the sweep to be gurgly and narrow. Sometimes you want it to be swirly and dicker with the harmonics, leaving the fundamentals alone. And sometimes you want it to sweep from way down low to way up high, taking its sweet time to get there. Sweep width/depth/intensity can certainly restrict or expand the sweep in a way that complements the speed and also mood of the tune. But offset dictates where the sweep is centred. I can cope with a 3-position feedback toggle, and I can also cope with a 2 or 3-position sweep width toggle. But I need a continuously variable offset control to truly set the "mood" of the phasing. On a positive note, where FETs, as used in the Phase 90 and similar, or OTAs, as used in the Small Stone and all derivatives, are subject to distorting if you push them too hard, photocells - the basis of all optical phasing - do NOT distort. The chips they are connected to *might* distort but the photocells themselves physically cannot. So, within limits, that generally allows for a better S/N ratio in optical phasers, because you can push the input harder, without having to worry about distortion. So, a tip of the hat to Flower Pedals for making the "correct" choice in that regard.

What are a couple Phasers, with control over the point where it sweeps, that you’d recommend checking out. I like OTA and Optical best, but I want control over feedback, depth, speed, width, Vibrato option and I like to have an Asymmetrical wave option, so the Vibrato mode can get to Uni Vibe territory(usually not as deep as pulse), as well as some getting that Magnatone pitch vibrato effect. I’ve seen phasers come and go since I found the Whetstone, and the smaller Sibling, from Blackout Effectors. I’ve heard about the offset control, you mentioned, but I can’t think of a phaser that has it, off the top of my head.

I would love to know your process when it comes to composing with all of these effects you demo. The into songs are always so well written and perfect for the device you’re presenting.

Thanks so much Ryan! I've been using a lot of drum tracks from a friend and then I just make a song around it. Usually start with bass to form an idea and then I jam over it! In this case, this was an old riff I re-used from a jam session from about 2006. It's always different with every pedal.

"The" Andy ( since he seems widely known by his first name) makes everything sound like something you might need.Good for the goose and the goat,- nsm for the gander. This and the Native Audio, or the classic Grand Orbiter. The mini MXR is solid since they fixed the bypass, but they still lack in headroom.

Throughout my guitaring career, I've wanted a phaser whose filter sweep could be controlled by an expression pedal, like a wah but with phaser tones. Apparently, Mooer makes one but the sound quality didn't really seem up to snuff. Here's hoping we get one one day! This pedal seems like a great step in the right direction towards phaser control.
@AndyDemos3 жыл бұрын
The old Foxx Phaser that looks like a wah had manual sweep. It’s pretty subtle and honestly not worth the size in my opinion. The exp on this pedal would allow exploring the full speed range which would give you a similar effect (it can go very slow). ✌️

@Neon Thunderbird this is the pedal! Thanks for the recommendation; I love Empress and I had no idea they made this!
@CorbCorbin3 жыл бұрын
Never understood not putting Expression pedal capability in these higher end pedals. If fir nothing more than the speed control, any modulation is better with an expression pedal. Many went the Tap Tempo route, as that was the trend for quite a few years, but with digital controls like this pedal, both are easily done. I’m in the process of trying to get an expression Jack built into my Whetstone Phaser.
@CorbCorbin3 жыл бұрын
@Neon Thunderbird Empress was my second choice, after I got to A/B it with a Whetstone. The Empress has more in some areas, but the Whetstone just inspired me. It has a killer Vibrato circuit, that with an Asymmetrical waveform, can get Rotary to Magnatone like effects. The Phaser is also just my taste, and it can get really wild, really light, or a killer Uni-Vibe, even a cocked-phaser-Wah sound.

NativeAudio Midnight v2 Phaser is also another great Phaser that has expression i/p. Great analog phaser with digital controls. I really like this Flower Pedals phase too though.

Andy, do any of these settings sound like the “rise” setting on the Boss PH-3? That’s a cool sound but the pedal cuts volume like crazy. I’m hoping this pedal fits the bill

A bit late on my reply but the ramp waveform is about as close you can get to the PH-3 "Rise" 06:12

I don't think I've ever done it to Andy, but I know I've occasionally plunked my finger-tip on the wrong icon on a small touchscreen over the years. So, that single thumbs-down could simply be someone with bad aim, or really chubby fingertips.

I love Flower Pedals. But if you're listening, guys, put the input and output jacks just a couple of millimeters further apart or move the power adapter jack. I had to get new patch cables just for the connections to my Flower Pedals because there is not enough space for all the connections if you have have low profile "pancake" plugs on your cables.
@AndyDemos3 жыл бұрын
Just jumping in here, the pancake cables are the issue, not the pedal. Any standard straight or right angle plug will fit this pedal. I just double checked and the hole spacing on the Flower matches up EXACTLY with Greer, Danelectro and many other pedals using this compact enclosure. Thanks, Andy

Castilleja is the scientific name for Indian Paintbrush, the pretty wildflower that's featured on the pedal. I've heard it pronounced several ways, but I don't think the Spanish pronunciation is usual, since scientific names come directly from the Latin. I've always pronounced it as Cast - ill - EH - Ya though I might be wrong, especially on the last syllable (I've heard Jah/Zha too).
@lauticanziani24533 жыл бұрын
Native spanish speaker here: ja as a last syllable in a word is not really common. You might find it in words like “bandeja” [Tray], the technically correct way to say it is ja as in ‘HAHA’ not like ‘Jah’
