Taylor and Jack Antonoff has a really good friendship. Jack was part of the band BLEACHERS, he produces for his own band. Back then NO one has ever asked / trusted him to produce for them. But Taylor did, and it was not just for her any album, but she trusted him for her first FULL POP ALBUM - 1989 , as you know she was a country artist and this album was her transition to Pop. 1989 - was later awarded as ALBUM OF THE YEAR at the Grammy's, and also the Most Awarded Pop Album of all time. Up until now. This has opened the door for otherS to get Jack to produce for them .Including Lorde's - MELODRAMA ( critocally acclaimed album) Lana del Rey's - NFR also a critically acclaimed. Taylor has worked with Jack since 1989 onwards ( 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, EVERMORE) So they're really best friends.

look up Sweeter Than Fiction; filming for One Chance was a year before 1989.. Bleachers was started in 2014, before that solo project, his band was "fun" and also Steel Train. He has started a new band, called Red Hearse, since 2019. None of his various bands have ever officially disbanded, but he has just been working on other types of collaborations. Taylor used to hang out with his girlfriend, Lena Dunham (Jack and Lena split in 2017). Lena is in the Bad Blood video -- the woman with the cigar.

Honestly, it's not being terrified of saying things people won't like. I'm more worried about saying something that I can't back up, or just getting something totally wrong (which I've done a few times). And I have said some less-than-flattering things about her in a few videos. I won't rehash them here, but so far everyone has taken it as being my opinion and not worth getting too upset about. I promise you, if we hit a dud in one of these songs, I will let it be known.

You're always so sweet and entertaining! I'm curious if you ever go to listen to the studio version as well because the instrumentation is special for this one as well. Thanks for the video!

She usually tours after an album release; she released Lover in 2019, but didn't tour right away. She had limited her US tours (Loverfest) to just two venues, because her mother has both breast cancer and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She works on every aspect of the stage shows -- stage design, costume, choreography, colors, aesthetic -- she is very involved with all the people who put it together for her. A lot of her people (band, backup singers, dancers) have been with her for years, so _not_ touring affects a lot of people around her. [edit -- you said it at the end! I'll leave it up anyway.]

Wow. You just got so many things that she discussed later in this long pond session and her documentary Miss Americana (I would really like to see your reaction to this one btw). The bridge of this song is so powerful to me. I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try… Yes, it would be interesting to see you checking the comments. I haven’t watched Cats or Can’t stop the music yet. I usually avoid bad movies… am I missing something 😉?

I am so happy that you like Mirrorball ! It's my favorite from Folklore. I hope you're gonna react or listen to the original version because the instrumental is so different and so dreamy!!
@stevenstewart7823 жыл бұрын
That I've never been a natural all I do is try try try line seems to me like a direct reference to all of her detractors claiming she can't sing. She's basically admitting here that she is not powerful natural vocalist she's had to work at it for years to get where she's at now
@robertthompson72423 жыл бұрын
She rather explicitly linked it to a song about a fictional addict suffering from depression, and almost committing suicide in the intro(This is Me Trying). This is about her "addiction" to performing, and the stage; the need to be in the spotlight. I really get riled with the "she isn't a good singer" narrative. The idea that she lacks "power" isn't about her voice, but how she used it. Some people didn't like the tone; and she wasn't full grown when she started. But imo most of the criticism was because success came so early in her career. She had a record deal with RCA at 14; they didn't sign her because she couldn't sing. She walked at 15, but she kept the song publication deal with Sony until she left BMLG. A lot of the reason her voice sounds so much different in recordings now, is how the sound engineer/producer places it in the mix, and what effects they use. She has had on and off vocal lessons since she was in elementary school, winning karaoke contests, and singing the national anthem (at 11 yo) at a 76'ers game.

One of my favs from the album. It is weird. But her explaining the meaning was so beautiful. That need to perform. I think even outside of the celebrity culture people feel that way for their families or jobs and so on. It is exhausting. Love this one.

That's was a very nice intro. Once again an amazingly mature and honest analysis of the video+music, and you are still motivating me to keep practicing my guitar. I would completely watch a video about your reading comments and I would way the I Can't Stop The Music video but honestly, as much as I LOVE Taylor I wouldn't watch a video about Cats (the movie isn't so bad that it's good, it's more like they tried to make a serious film that's just low quality and boring). Also, you always make me laugh with your videos. Thanks for making my day brighter.
@MsSera213 жыл бұрын
I really like the album version of mirrorball and how it contrasts with the acoustic version. I like how the song is about literal events - the pandemic, her plans being upended- but it lends itself to interpretations about her own celebrity more generally and also intimate relationships. Is she singing to her fans, or a lover, or both?

I'll show you every version of yourself tonight.. Also, musicians literally show different versions of people. They help the world depict how pain sounds like, how anger, excitement, pride, sound like and how you can put into words these life experiences. That's why we love songs we relate to. And that's why taylor is loved, because she is such a good writer that she can explain a specific setting or feeling that you've felt before, but she says it in a more poetic and clear way.

Jack and Taylor are great friends! They first starting working together in 2013 and during her album 1989 - which is her full on pop record. One of the bonus tracks You Are In Love was inspired by his relationship at the time. He’s the frontman of the band Bleachers (which you might like - has a Talking Heads vibe) and he’s also in the band fun. though they’re currently on hiatus. Edit: another great reaction!! Thank you!

I learned today he has had a new band/project since 2019, called Red Hearse. I would have thought he'd been busy in 2019 writing with Taylor, and with producing The Chicks' first album in a decade, but he started another project for himself, too.

One thing that always makes me feel sad is the lines about the tallest tiptoes & highest heals, because it is so painful to wear such high healed shoes, let alone every night, over & over. I expect Jack just had the sun in his eyes, lol. Taylor wore the cap to avoid the sun (and, she likes purple). They've likely had conversations like this for years. From the little I've seen, he is seriously into exploring "roles" and expectations in his music. Jack Antonoff bands: Steel Train, fun, Bleachers (solo project), Red Hearse. rock, pop, indie sounds. Never officially disbanded, and Red Hearse is since 2019. He is the second person who got a career producing because Taylor liked his sound; the first was Nathan Chapman, a Nashville studio musician (he plays just about every instrument there is) who used to mix demo cd's --- until he met 15/16 yo Swift. If you care, they did a soundtrack first ( Sweeter Than Fiction -- film was One Chance, 2013 release)). Then Jack co-wrote and produced 3 songs on 1989(2014). They knew each other already, before working together -- his (then) girlfriend was Lena Dunham, a comedienne( later, author and film director) who was in Taylor's circle. His other band is "fun"; they've released two albums, and a 2013 EP; but producing (Lana Del Rey, Lorde, The Chicks) and Bleachers/ Red Hearse don't leave him time for much else.
