I think I get the logic behind the game: It's designed to give someone with ADHD a steady dopamine boost through stimulation. It doesn't "cure" anything, what it does is basically soothe the ache, if you will. It's like an icepack for the brain.

Definitely, however according to some of their studies, they claimed that certain individuals were completely “symptom free” after a trial period (whatever that means). So are they claiming that it 100% “cures” ADHD? No. But there’s something to be said about the fact that they advertise even a POTENTIAL for that outcome, in my opinion.

Funnily enough adhd is caused due to the brain not recieving enough dopamine due to dulled receptors so that is why the attention span is soo low, because we are constantly looking for ways to boost dopamine. Thats why people with adhd hyperfixate, because the dopamine intake can be a lot to someone who isnt normally recieving it, it would normally cause someone to fixate on that source, especially if the body feels deprived. So theoretically a videogame could be used to treat adhd, but it seems to be heavily individualistic and not necessarily for everyone as we all have different interests and ticks.
@VinceMDT
@VinceMDT Жыл бұрын
I feel like the people who developed this game have never actually talked to a person with adhd about what issues they face in every day life It always just gets boiled down to attention span being the issue, even though adhd comes with so much more than that. But since it‘s the most known symptom, they develop these kind of ‚treatments‘ to basically put a bandaid on a very small part of the whole disorder.

I put the blame about that on people with adhd. The improvement in the test was probably due to the effects of practice. Most of the time, doing the same test more than once will see improved scores. To improve this experiment, one would have to try to eliminate other contributing factors so the only thing that changes is the game. In a real study, they would have a control group for this reason. -Group A takes the test, spends a week playing this game, then retakes the test. Record their improvement score. - Group B takes the test, spends a week playing Subway Surfers, the takes the test again. Compair their improvement score to the group A. Did the specialized game help, or is a level of improvement to be expected regardless? Since you only have one test subject, I would've done the test a bunch of times before adding the game, so you could forcast the expected level of improvement and compare it to the reality. If you usally improved 10% per try, and after trying the game your improvement rate went up to 30%, that would imply the game helped in some way. If you continued to improve along the predicted pattern, you could conclude the game didn't contribute much to the results.

As a school psychologist I can almost guarantee that the improved score is due to practice effects from taking the same test twice in a week, not the game itself. When going back for the post-test you already knew about the rules and had different expectations. In my professional opinion an app like this is a complete scam. Interesting video, just thought I'd share that! :)

Oooh! I have an important note for a school psychologist. Recent (robust) studies have found 60-70% of adults with ADHD have Delayed Sleep/Wake Phase Syndrome. Teenagers often have a similar effect during puberty, but it goes away. Seasonal depression lamp therapy in the morning will help students regulate their sleep cycle (specifically neurodivergent kids, but it could help all teens struggling with a messed up circadian rhythm. Not sure). The other steps are having good sleep hygiene, and even getting smart lightbulbs that turn on to help them wake up, and dim closer to bedtime to signal it's time to wind down. I have both of these things and Narcolepsy with Cataplexy so I've looked a lot into the sleep science research coming out. It's literally life changing. Especially the sun lamp therapy

Have you considered that you may have improved at the memory test the second time because, by virtue of doing it the first time, you had spent time learning how it works and practicing it? The problem with this theory is the fact that people with ADHD (I am one of them) hyper focus on certain things as well as the fact that it’s caused by chemical imbalances in your brain. So this is just creating a hyper focus on the game, it’s not curing your dopamine deficiency or allowing your focus to span out across your daily life.

the funny thing is, i'm sure any fast paced game can accomplish what this game does what they're doing is giving u multiple things to focus on at once, to help ur reaction time, memory, and of course ur focus skills, which a majority of games already do unintentionally in splatoon's turf war mode, for example, u need to focus on -teammates -opponents -ink/ammo -location -when and where to use subs + specials and those are only scratching the surface! i think a mobile game doing what 90% of video games as a whole do but putting a suspiciously secret paywall and the guarantee of curing adhd, is actually insane, a bit lazy even. it feels like a cash grab

@@AshChiCupcak really? That’s surprising I have never hear of that happening I always thought you had to go to a specialist to get diagnosed? But that’s super interesting it might just be because of how bad my adhd is though so it might have been incredibly visual and expressed through body language for your kids? Idk how the process works
@AshChiCupcak
@AshChiCupcak Жыл бұрын
@@Kit___Cat It may have been cuz I already had one kid diagnosed before and he was VERY obvious. The teachers for my other kid just filled out a form that listed different symptoms and I gave it to their pediatrician. It may vary by state and doctor. I'm assuming I just got very lucky.

I've definitely shown ADHD symptoms since young (always had a hard time staying awake in class even in the afternoon sometimes even though I WOULD sleep, just not restfully. Sometimes I just couldn't focus or intake information.) My folks just assumed I was rebelling and getting old and big for my britches but nah it turns out being unable to comprehend reading is not a sign of puberty, shock horror.

Did they just not make it easier on the last day of the free trial so you wouldn't get fed up and call it a scam? And for those that are gullible and would be willing to buy this would also see "some improvement" and then actually buy the game? Or am I seein sh*t?

It sounds lame but 15 minutes of "silently counting as high as I can with my eyes closed" gradually helped with daily focus. I could only get to like 20 before my attention scattered and lost count, but I could actually track progress as I reached higher counts

I was diagnosed as an adult. I was sent assessments that I had to complete and someone that knew me as a child also had to complete. They were sent by USPS and I had to return them that way. It took me like 3.5 months to get it done. Loved that the assessment was designed in like the worst possible way for someone with ADHD to complete.

Video games actually do help me with my adhd but only because I use it to create positive associations and I utilize games with loading screens and cutscenes I've already seen before (when replaying a game I've played before) to do other stuff like homework (when I was taking classes) or reading or writing or other hobbies that I have difficulty doing on their own. Though medication has worked relatively well for me (doesn't solve all my problems but helps with energy and motivation since I get a lot of fatigue from my adhd) and using video games this way works best for me when I'm medicated.

I feel like playing normal video games does mostly the same thing already. Testing your ability to focus and simple puzzles and memory tests, basically every skill being tested by this mobile game is tested to an equal or greater degree by, for example, the re4 remake. Reflexes, multitasking and split second decision making are tested all at once in combat, the puzzles mostly test pattern recognition and new game plus heavily rewards having a good memory. I guarantee playing sekiro has improved my ability to focus more than a bad temple run clone ever could.
