Took on this project tonight. Took a little longer than I expected, and the steel hood made it harder, but it's done!

@@AndyKruseChannel the driver side one is at a slightly different angle, I think the bracket is just slightly tweaked. Too late now to fix it haha.

I've run these on my car and have had the nut fall off of the stud in the middle of a cruise. The vibration of the car loosened the nut and locknut up. Something to watch out for if you aren't running a latch in conjunction with them. I do really like the looks of them! Good walk through.

Looks great! I want to do that as extra security. I have a ground disconnect to protect the battery from draining and if I disconnect and put a lock on one or both of the hood pins when I go to the store or something it may not prevent it being stolen but at least slow them down a little enough for them to move on.

I have done about a hundred of these. Aside from getting the pin angle right, or at least really close, which is a lot easier on some cars than on others, one thing that I have always had problems with, whether installing the chrome plates on a fiberglass hood or a steel hood, with or without the rubber gaskets, is just how thin those chrome plates are. When you tighten the sheet metal screws down, it will invariably make a dimple around the screw hole. That doesn't interfere with the function, but it looks terrible, especially with it being chrome. It reflects badly in the chrome. I wish somebody would make those round chrome plates a lot thicker. And yes, installing and removing the pins will scratch up the chrome, and there isn't much you can do about that. You did get the 4 screws put in the right places. If you orient the chrome plate so the screw holes are front to back and side to side, the clips will hit the screw heads whether you put them in sideways like you did, or front to back like I usually do. Of course you could put the clips in at an angle. They work the same. I just want heavier chrome plates. I found that the dimpling problem is worse with a rubber gasket, because the screw pushes the super thin chrome plates down into the soft rubber at the screw holes. Yet another issue is the chrome plates will bend if the hood is not completely flat.

Cool, make those thicker chrome plates for us so we can skip that issue too. I'll take two. :)

Im also curious for those that get rid of the stock hood latch. (I am keeping my stock latch and pins) are the pins enough to keep your hood aligned? Because the latch also pulls or pushes your hood left and right. Curious why you didn’t put the hood latch on the hood first then drilled the pin holes with the hood perfectly alined from fender to fender before drilling? Or are you banking on the fact since you are repainting your car that you Can clearance the fender holes to align it to the hood position now?

Yeah I was thinking that this project should probably go after (fender and door gap) and (fender and hood gap) alignment so that hood can be realigned if necessary to perfect the hood/fender/door/cowl gaps and clearances. Hopefully it will be close enough for jazz. Cool project otherwise!

I installed mine while still using the latch. Sometime later I removed the latch to add a pusher fan. The pins keep it aligned just fine

Hey, i bought an acouto hood pin kit off amazon for 20$ and in the notes it says " make sure surface is clean for it to stick" but none of the parts are sticky, unless its the part that goes on top of the hood with the red backside is the sticky part?

DONT USE RIVETS ON THE HOOD PIN PLATES, PLEASE JUST TRUST ME!!!!! IVE TRIED IT ON 2 DIFFERENT HOODS AND ITS WAY TOO MUCH FOR THE FIBERGLASS TO HANDLE, IT'LL CRACK AND SPLIT THE GLASS ALL TO HELL, JUST USE THE SCREWS!!!!!!

We use rivets and and nut serts on fiber glass all the time on semis my plate for the hood pins are riveted on for as old as I am all you gotta do is use the proper drill bit for the Rivet the reason why it cracks cause the hole is to tight plus it looks cleaner then a self tapper and a machine screw
@pauls7751
@pauls7751 9 ай бұрын
I used rivets on mine too. In fact my kit came with rivets. They were installed 18 years ago with no signs of cracking yet. The only problem I have is due to the angle. As the hood closes the pin rubs the front side of the hole in the plate. By the time it's closed all the way it rubs the back side. Also make sure your hood clears the body parts up front. Mine didn't and had to be clearance. Good idea relocating the bumpers.
