thanks for the update! Slim Gaillard - Piano and he constructed his own language called "Vout-o-Reenee", for which he wrote a dictionary. In addition to English, he spoke five languages (Spanish, German, Greek, Arabic, and Armenian) with varying degrees of fluency.

I know it appeared on Mubi for a while - I got my copy from Chili (I think it's only available in the UK, which is strange - I believe there's some rights issues going on there)

A mixture. I have an HD version of the original film, and Atilio had a different HD version of the dance scene - this could not have been done from the DVD version, Atilio cleaned up the picture and combined the two HD versions - then I used various bits of AI interpolation software to produce this version. The retiming was by done hand.

@Andy, I want to include this in a playlist, but I want to start at 2:37, immediately before the dancing, and youtube playlists still don't allow time-stamps. I did see EstiloSwing has a 4k AI-enhanced video of just the dance. Do you know if the timing has been corrected in the EstiloSwing version? If it has not, might you want to also upload a time-corrected version with just the dancing? Thanks

Yeah - for the Estilio version, he nabbed the copy that Atilio Menéndez had on his Vimeo channel. Atilio was the first one to get hold of an HD copy - I used his version for my first HD retime (I think it was the third retimed version I made) Then Atilio replaced his version with my retimed one.... and that's the one EstilioSwing used. It's a slightly glitchy version though, thanks to DAIN, I think (the method Estilio used to change the framerate) - look at the curtains when Norma and Billy enter at about 30 seconds in - there's some wild glitches going on there - and it took a lot of work to avoid that effect in the one I did. I can happily put up a version without the musical jam, if you'd like - I'll see if I can get one in place over the next couple of days.

Might you be interested in AI-enhancing their "Congaroos" dance? (The best resolution I can find is within the complete movie (@ 52: 50) here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qam5n5ygjJ6IicU. I'd say the second dance (@ 53: 28 in the linked video) is especially worth enhancing.)

I've been planning to give Killer Diller a go. Very unlikely I'll be able to get anything like the quality of the Hellzapoppin' clip, but I do have the original film in reasonable quality - so I'll see what I can do.
