Hey Andy - Great Work. I just started reading about Tiago's second brain concept and enticed by it and have researched quite a lot, but come back to OneNote and Evernote as the go-to apps. I was interested in Readwise but seems expensive and also doesn't have any integrations with OneNote. Do you capture highlights from books/instapaper/pockets, etc.v into OneNote? If yes, would you if is there a similar automated way like Readwise is for evernote?

I always find myself crawling back to onenote after 20 yeras but some of my favorite old features are missing, like Linked Notes on web sites. Now they have Sticky Notes with kind of a similar feature... I still have to use the Windows 10 version for some features as well.

Hi Andy, this is great I've been thinking about doing something very similar to what you've got going on. I manage my parents personal affairs including everything finance related as well as managing my own stuff so I was looking for a solution to help me keep everything organised and accessible across multiple devices. One question I have is how secure is it to upload documents to OneNote the way that you have as pictures? Do you redact any personal information from them before uploading? I'm a little wary of uploading scanned documents as they may have addresses, social security numbers etc so I was curious on what others are doing to keep their information safe.
@AndyPark3658 күн бұрын
Hi John - OneNote notebooks are stored in OneDrive and are as secure as other popular cloud storage platforms like Google Drive or Dropbox. I personally save a lot of scanned documents in OneNote. For highly sensitive files, such as taxes, deeds, and passports, I keep them in encrypted sections. I'm not worried about the safety of my notes but would appreciate hearing insights from others in this community who might have more expertise in this area.

Andrew do you use Onedrive for cloud storage alongside it? How did you implement that "frequesnt used files" section on top of the page?

Remember to apply some type of retention to the documents you're saving, especially if they're work-related.

Hi! Great videos about OneNote! In this one you quickly mentioned that you are using a supernote device? So am I, and I seem not to be able to get my handwritten notes from Supernote to OneNote so that they are searchable... I tried export as pdf and as png, as I read that OneNote should be able to read handwriting from images... How do you transfer your notes from supernote to OneNote? Thank you very much for your response!

Good, clear video on your organizational structure. I do not understand the distinction between the "Areas" and "Resources" folders. - - - If I create a new note, on what basis should I decide to put it in "Areas" or "Resources"?
@AndyPark3654 ай бұрын
Areas involve the regular, day-to-day tasks you need to stay on top of. It’s the ongoing work that keeps everything in your work or life running smooth. Resources are where you accumulate knowledge. It's where you collect info for when you might need it. You might not use the info in this notebook every day, but they’re there when you need to look something up or get inspired.
@jimgrant17764 ай бұрын
@@AndyPark365 Andy, thanks for responding. I defer to you as to PARA, but I am very surprised to hear you say that “Areas” is for “day-to-day” tasks. Why? Because when you reviewed your “Areas” tasks (sub-folders), there were 15-20. I don’t have more than 5 “day-to-day” tasks. I bet most people don’t have 15-20 either. If you restate and say “Areas” is for tasks of any kind, then I get it. However, I believe tasks are best managed with a dedicated task manager app. My rudimentary understand of MS OneNote is that it is predominately s note-taking / storage system.
@AndyPark3654 ай бұрын
Areas is where I manage routine things that require maintenance. Not necessarily all tasks. Some are just notes. For example, in the home section, I track the last time I changed the HVAC filter, log home repairs like plumbing issues, and keep records of warranties for my generators. For a more detailed explanation, please visit Tiago Forte's website. You should review the source, as I'm applying my interpretation of his concepts. Thanks.

If only OneNote had backlinks.
@stephaneenglish46614 ай бұрын
If I understand what you’re looking for, it does have backlinks. You can hit Alt+backarrow to jump back to the location you jumped from (and to keep going back through your history of pages/paragraphs visited previously during your current session). You can also create links to notebooks, sections, pages and paragraphs, to jump back from anywhere else. If you use tags, you can use the tag search function (on the desktop version) to create index pages, with hyperlinks. You can also use the search history to jump back to locations you’ve accessed over the last day or week. Overall, the linking and navigation options are unparalleled, in my opinion.
@tonyholland62853 ай бұрын
You can sort of do backlinks but it is clunky for sure. Have you ever tried [[new page]] to create a new page while on another page?
@ewoljn3 ай бұрын
I will typically copy a link to a specific paragraph or note on one of my pages and use that as my "backlink". Not as streamlined/easy, but it works.

My question is how are you keeping your person and work separate or are you using them together and then if/when a new job comes along, you will transfer your personal notebooks to another account? Question: in 02_AREAS, you have a BOOKS section. Would it contain the books you are currently reading AND books you've completed? Or would you have a BOOKS section in 04_ARCHIVE for completed books? Related question: if the book is on 'Video Editing Tips', would you put your summary notes of that book in the 03_RESOURCES section with your other video notes? Or in 02_AREAS?

@graytonw52384 ай бұрын
Not defending MS (or more like Crowdstrike in the case of the outage), but some of us have no choice when it comes to remaining with MS. The corporate world by far uses MS, from desktops to servers to infrastructure. In my case as a freelancer, my bread and butter is Office in order to support my customers. And maybe people who live in the MS world at their work need MS products at home in order to interface with their work. In the case of OneNote, it's still a good tool for what it does, it's included in Office, and for other similar online tools you generally have to pay through the nose and STILL risk your privacy. If I weren't consulting would I switch to Linux? Possibly. I hate the idea of Recall and I'll do what I can to keep it off my machines or disabled.

imagine changing your software usage over nonsense that has nothing to do with the software you are using. I don't care if OneNote was made by Thanos or nazis it's still good software
