hes trashing his machine, he could have gotten it a lot more balanced then that. Its not his fingers but his face he has to worry about, he is wise to stand to the side as that log could come out.

Michelangelo, perhaps history's greatest sculptor, understood this concept to his bones. Two of his more famous quotes speak directly to it: Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.

@@markbeames7852 honestly I think a lot of this is just to start doing stuff to the wood and refine the form as you go. When I'm turning I know a general thing that I'm aiming for, but make design changes as I go to suit the wood. It's always a surprise for me what I end up with.

Truly a beautiful piece! Our laburnum tree is not nearly that large, but I've gotten enough off various prunings to make some nice tool/chisel handles,. It has a bunch of different 'local ' names, around here it is called a Golden Chain Tree. -Veteran '66-68

A beautiful piece, both from the design point of view and its natural beauty. Love the contrasting bow ties. A clever way to fix the problem whilst looking like they were part of the design before you even knew about the cracks. Talking about design, do you sketch out (or design "architecturally" to the mm) before you start the process, or do you think "vase!" or whatever it is you come up with, and then let the wood guide you to the actual end shape? Obviously some like the 3D chess board & set would require a lot of planning, but it's more this sort of work that I'm thinking about. You do it so naturally that it seems like you're doing one extreme or the other when it comes to the design. However you do it, you never fail to amaze me with your skill and artistic eye. Bravo, squire, you did it again!
