FatShark’s repair service is as good as ever - the only problem is that for EU their repair centre is in the UK, so there are quite some logistic issues (due to brexit). In the end they sent me the broken parts for free and I installed them myself to avoid unnecessary customs or anything like that, but they are indeed super friendly!

What proof do you have that the DJI v3’s won’t be backwards compatible? Is that speculative? You state it as fact in the video and I’d like to hear/see the proof if possible.
@AndyRCchannel2 жыл бұрын
Caddx saw the dji 03 system and at the time they said they were not gonna be backwards compatible with vistas and caddx only makes profit from the cameras they make for dji and saw no future for the vista and then working with dji in the long run as the new 03 is a bespoke camera by dji with no options for caddx or runcam to make cameras for them ..however what iv now been told is that it is possible they have delayed the release so that it does to try and wipe out walksnail. We won't know now till it is released but when this video came out it was a true fact. Caddx still think they won't be backwards compatible and will discontinue them because it will affect the sales of the new system. And the vistas and air units need 120hz refresh rate... the new goggles are 100hz so they would need a new firmware for the units. No doubt lock up some features while they are at it. They didn't take too kind to the DJI drone having it's power output hacked for Europe and I'm sure with remote I'd coming the restrictions will be even tighter

This is why I haven't flown fpv since 2016, cause my last goggles just up and died in me and I gave up after numerous attempts of trying to fix them. after loosing my display cable for my monitor and instead having to use a basic one, i can assure you that 120hz is a very meaningful improvement. not just for latency, and not just for smoothness, but for clarity. coupled with fast pixel response times, like OLED displays can, it can dramatically improve your information about how the drone is moving in short periods of time.

As always, extremely detailed. Especially liked the encoder talk. From a quick look, I had originally thought that the basically double compression of of h265 would perfectly match the double pixels of 1080p. But then there's the processing and latency,... Keeping my eye on these goggles. Pretty skeptical about the new DJI stuff. Maybe by the holidays.

Thank you. personally I'd go with walksnail. But that's because I'm based in the uk and the fatshark repair centre has been shut down so it's a quicker turn around for me to send direct to walksnail if there is an issue. If you are closer to a fatshark repair centre it might make more sense to go fatshark. But currently if the problem is with walksnail and not the goggle part you send the goggles to fatshark and then they send them to walksnail which would mean a lot longer waiting times. That should change so farshark can repair the walksnail part eventuallt but I don't know when. U get antennas with the walksnail which I like and despite people saying they are no good... They are working nice for me. So the answer is.. it depends on where you live

Regarding FPS an Human Eye can see: 1. Most real studies have shown that the max Hz of humans are different from person to person and that the upper limit for most humans is around 230 to 250 hz !!!! 2. There is a HUGE difference between 60 hz and 144 hz. Almost everyone can see the difference. It just feels smoother and sometimes even better in image quality 3. Linus tech tips did a test with pro gamers, avarage PC users and PC noobs to see if they can see differences between 60, 144 and 240 hz and other refresh rates. It shows that more Hz gives an advantage. Yes because of latency BUT if human eye couldn SEE that shorter latency, why even have a shorter latency at all? The thing is, as TV came with 24 fps, everybody said that a human cant see more than 24fps, which is BS. Than 60 hz became standart and everybody said "we cant see more than 60 hz" which is BS too! Now when we have the technology to have 240 hz any even more, we can REALLY test what the human eye can see. I mean, just have a 144 hz and a 60 hz display side by side, like me, and move the mouse or an open folder. you can clearly see that its more fluid. And this is not about latency at all! Its just more fluid!

I've noticed Companies such as Fatshark, Skyzone, Hd zero and others is that they seem to put out products that are not ready for release, prematurely. This leaves us (the consumer) to purchase inferior products as guinea pigs or unsuspecting beta testers only to have a very expensive video system totally discontinued or changed to the point that we regret purchasing the item. These companies are feeding off of die hard enthusiast to fund their R&D. I've now learned to wait a while. I would like to ask you regarding the refresh rate: don't you think that it might change the pixel persistence time? There are good videos explaining why OLD crt's can show less blurry pictures when showing moving objects in comparison to LCD and similar screens. I can understand that the latency would be in the worst case 1/60s when using 60 Hz. But if the image processing uses a pipe for processing that might also increase the latency above the time 1/frequency. I would be also interested if there is any mechanism used to reduce blur caused by the pixel persistence. Thank you very much for your videos!
@AndyRCchannel2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately as fatshark make the goggles and I have no contact with them. I can't obtain that information but is definitely food for thought. The only reason I bring it up is that people have tested the latency and the goggles are reporting the lower latency then real-world tests

Can't find it now, but I've watched a video explaining why h265 can actually be worse than h264 in certain scenarios. Was a test with noise patterns, not really a real life problem he said. But if you consider that grass is basically a large noise pattern, it could explain the fuzzy grass problem. Personally I never use h265 because storage and bandwidth was never a problem, cpu does become a problem with H265 and is also much more expensive to upgrade compared to storage. So it really only makes sense for streaming, but on the other hand, in most of the world bandwidth isn't really a problem. Hope I can find that video, thought it was quite interesting. That's because making up rumours and speculating get clicks. count how many times "we don't know" gets said the next time u watch one of those videos. and then count how many times I said that in this video. @@AndyRCchannel Sorry, I just wanted to be sure, it sounded like a checked fact when you said it. Did WalkSnail tell you so and are they 100% sure about that statement ? I actually haven't heard this "rumor" from a click bait review. It was a discrete comment from a very serious french reviewer saying that "DJI confirmed to him, off the record, that some efforts will be done towards backward compatibility". I agree it is not accurate, it doesn't mean current AU or Vistas will be compatible, but it gives hope ;)
@billyocean92362 жыл бұрын
Why would that make any sense? Dji would make less money if they make them backwards compatible. Those units are already sold. Unfortunately, that would be a poor business decision. Though wishers will be wishers and dreamers will be dreamers. Good luck with that my guy. Hope and wish in one hand and crap in the other, see which one fills up first. Would be nice if it was the other way around.
@jejefpv2 жыл бұрын
@@billyocean9236 On the opposit, that would be making good sense. It would help v1 and v2 owners to move to new Goggles because they would still be able to fly all their quads and update slowly their VTX. Especially now that WalkSnail offers an alternative. Not making them backward compatible would just push pilots towards WalkSnail, and DJI might end up losing some customers. I think they would actually sell more new Goggles if they were backward compatible.

I truly dislike the idea of creators/pilots comparing a less than 6 month vtx video feed with something that's been out on the market for years. Funny enough, the avatar hd has seen more updates and significant improvements in its short lifespan so far than the other has seen in its entire 2-3 years span. Y’all new here? Welcome to FPV, *an ongoing expense.* Been obsessed with pretending to be a bird since 2016, and it’s been this way the whole time. Product development doesn’t end. It cycles rapidly and gets better, which comes at a cost. But the tech advancing is a good thing; competition in the HD market is a good thing. It’s sort of comical how worked up some of you get when DJI does what the rest of us knew they would do (because it’s what they’ve literally always done). As Andy put it: “that’s their business model.” Like, I get it, FPV isn’t free. But it’s a hobby, and as hobbies go, it’s actually pretty reasonably priced - just look into cars or golf, or boating, or traveling, or photography sometime. To my mind, hobbies are, by definition, luxuries intended to be relegated to disposable-income-only. If it’s not a hobby, then it’s a business expense, in which case you absolutely need to be considering these things as overhead and have no excuse for being caught off-guard by DJI’s entirely predictable business move. If you put yourself in a place of financial strain, I can only conclude it’s because you either didn’t appropriately consider your means, or you didn’t think it was enough money to justify the time needed to learn before handing over your hard-earned cash. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a couple thousand into DJI too. I wish it was going to last forever too. But it’s been 2 years, and I knew it wouldn’t. I’ll get some more time out of what’s around, enjoy the shit out of it, send it and break it. Then I’ll move on. If you can’t or won’t do the same, that’s fine too. It just means FPV might not be the hobby for you.

8:49 Just as an intersting addition: Everyone is sheding light on the HDO2, but little know that Fatshark released the attitude V6 one year later. They feature an evolution of the lens adjustment system (that is actually the one that equips the DominatorHD/Avata now) and are similar in many ways to the HDO2 (even the mainboard got 'HDO2 v1.xx' label) apart from the displays, wich are regular LCDs instead of expensive OLEDs. They could even have trimmed the volume of the goggles, as the Attitude's display modules are way shorter than the Oled modules, it results in an case shell that is mostly empty, lmao. They were aimed to be a less expensive alternative to the HDO2. So people wanting to jump on the Sharkbyte HD system without a prior headset (or one w/o hdmi) would not have to pay the 500€ HDOled tax.

I didn't fly it, I did't see the moving blob. it was on a Beta Firmware before the 50mb. really liked the Goggles, so much smaller, lighter, better fit and those Screens... big Fan. but stll seems Beta... If I was starting now... and felt like being a early adapotor... I'd go Walksnail. if I want "It just works"... go DJI Apple = DJI android = Walksnail. Linux = HDzero

@@its-my-life its not my opinion. Its one of the reasons walksnail came out with the avatar system because they knew vistas and air units (which at the time they were selling for them) were not going to work with the new dji v3 system. Its possible the old FPV drone will (that part is an opinion) I suppose you could speculate that now DJI has a competitor with walksnail they could back track on that to try screw them over. Id say thats unlikely otherwise whats the point developing a v3 goggle? why not just release a v2 air unit that works with the existing v2 goggles?
@its-my-life2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyRCchannel Many thanks for that quick reply. It's interesting times right now. I sold all my old FPV gear and I'm now sitting on some cash trying to figure out which system to go for. DJI v3, Walksnail or HDZero. DJI v3 was FCC filed yesterday, as you surely noticed (Ian did a video on it), so we should soon know more there. I think (!) I will have to dedice between DJI v3 and Walksnail, HDZero is nice, but it seems to suffer when it comes to long range and it simply does not look as "clear" as the other two options.

What's the channel allocation like? Is it going to be friendly with VTx timing systems in the way HDZero is, or banned from a load of racemeets like the DJI stuff? The other thing HDZero have done to really ingratiate themselves with race organisers is provide their events DVR multiway VRx...

they match the DJI frequencies I believe but ill do a deeper dive into that. This was more about clearing up some stuff that I believe was hindering its progress. I would imagine the goggles transmitting on a frequency as soon as they are powered up for now would cause issues. But as they say they are also working on fixed latency. Maybe that can be the one for racers

The second another company came knocking at the door and saying they were making a HD fpv system, they reply with 1080 lol it’s literally hysterical. The ONLY time DJI will be beat is if they “let” someone beat them

You may only find it funny if they don't stop making current vistas and the new air unit / avata and goggles 2 having to comply to FCC and ce power output laws. And costing 300 dollars a unit. It's hard to say right now. Dji is the most finished product but it's end of life and might not be able to get for much longer. Hdzero is great but it worked slightly differently so check out my hd zero video as it breaks up differently. The dji V3 we really don't know how much use it's going to be for all fpv pilots or if it's going to be affordable. The avatar is not quite there yet. Maybe it's best to wait a few weeks to see walksnail get better before making a big purchase. Walksnail is progressing very fast and I'll be the first to let you know when it's good enough to buy.

Do like I did... I knew dji V1 & V2 goggles would not last forever because DJi = No backwards compatibility... I bought about a dozen dji and nebula pro cams along with 10 vista VTX's and 5 Air units ... I have yet to see a single one of my 4 builds running the vista stop working... Get a small stock pile of Vista's and dji cams now while you can and you'll be good for a long time... As another person said ... DJi has the most well finished and best functioning HD system as of now .. HDzero will take over the micro HD game. Eventually, the Avatar system "should" be on par with DJi....

Can the Walksnail system even benefit from the advantages of H.265? I always thought the fancy prediction and compression methods required buffering several frames and with 90 Hz frame rate each buffered frame means 11 ms more latency so fpv systems need to use simpler compression methods (both in H.265 and H.265) that basically only use I frames.
