I had one of those longspine urchins in my aquarium for years, he started small and got to the size of a soccer ball, he was so big I couldnt clean the tank without getting stabbed. They feel like a nasty wasp sting and that barb is so hard to get out. You are a brave man to walk in their habitat

Good video andy, definitely need to re try the chowder, you mainly use milk and cream 50/50 and a fair bit of butter, cook the oysters in the melted butter then add seasonings, after the oyster cook a little you then add some of the salty juices or a little bit of water and then add in the milk/cream

Edit: According to other comments this is actually a Heart Urchin and upon further research I would have to agree, making all the jibber jabber below essentially pointless. Actually that isn't a Horseshoe Crab, Horseshoe crabs, as their name implies, have a distinct horseshoe shape and have a long pointy tail at the rear and don't have that many legs. Although I'm also not sure what that was I would like to through a suggestion into the hat and say that might be an Isopod, an underwater relative to the Pill Bugs, aka Rolly Pollies! Though that said I don't know if Isopods have that many legs, let alone if it even is a Isopod in the first place :^/

awesome to watch this, just a note dont know if its been said but a chowder has to have potato in it to be considered a "chowder" and that might have been the heartiness or flavour you were looking for, next time remember to bring a couple small potatoes and really cook those cubes down first to get that creamyness into that soup

HAHA snaaails :) They do look yummy indeed!! Fresh sea urchin is SO GOOD! Outside of a couple US states, Chowders through the coastal regions of Canada and USA are typically a dairy + wheat blend as the soup base making for a thick soup. I would say what you made was a clear soup. Needing to pull those snails out of their shells though clear is the better choice. What about beach water greens? Are there kelp's or sea lettuces there?

Hi Andy! Thanks for another great video. I enjoy watching foraging videos and would love to make them myself, but I live near The Great Salt Lake so no shore foraging here. I like that you point out all the different creatures in the water and share your knowledge about them. I grew up near L.A. and there were very few places we could visit to see the tide pools. I used to beg my parents to take me to the tide pools at Cabrillo Beach all the time. Our oceans are so fascinating and too many people ignore the beautiful creatures that live in them. Your videos could teach so many people how to open their eyes, truly see the world around them, and realize that nature provides them with all that they need to survive! I'm looking forward to more of your videos!
