Some important quotes from Andy: “have to pay to play”, “this is real”, “all I need is consistency” “all exploration costs money”. This conversation is a greater treasure than gold itself. I actually wrote down everything Andy said so I can read it again when I’m in a hole. Who is Dan Gherd? I’m crying with joy that Andy didn’t get upset with your prying questions.

Fascinating to hear that consistency of grade is everything - even when reprocessing old tailings on previously mined ground. Makes sense that if the low grade consistency is there you can add volume to make it profiable (especially as a one man show with low income requirements).

One of the best videos I have ever seen as far as insight to how to start up a commercial operation in gold mining. And it is a game of yards much like football. The more dirt you move the more money you make and that's just a basic fact. Andy is spot on with the pinch point being the trommel. And I can tell you something else 90% of all mining operations the pinch point is the trommel.. processing pay is the slowest operation and just about any operations. Whether it is final cleanup or initial run. My game I play is run hard all week clean up on the weekends or when it's raining or nasty weather. Andy's lucky he's got a cab on his excavator I've got an open station LOL

From the title I thought there was some crazy drama between Dan and Andy or something. also just realized this is a year old.
@UtmostOutdoors4 ай бұрын
Hum... Yeah, seems like that mining experience was a good one all around, just with surprisingly little gold to show for it was all. My intention with the title was definitely not to stir any drama, I'm open to suggestions on a more accurate one.

If Dan made such a bad plan, and Andy saw it right away, is there no way to modify the plan to make it work. Amd were there reasons Dan made such a bad plan, or did he just not know what he was doing?

Andy, In gold mining with equipment you do have to play through , like golf! But understanding the deposit will save you from a very bad year!
@greatbasingoldrush Жыл бұрын
Andy's my favorite channel But I have to strongly disagree on Big companies making it on $5 a yard. You cannot replace grade with volume small placier miners must high grade only cause we can't run huge volume to make up for grade

I'm trying to understand this conversation...did Dan stuff up here...is Andy annoyed by that? Or, was it the constraints of the site and, as such, just one of those things? The not having initially understood that the ground has already been worked, I could understand given the passage of time...but, citing the processing rig that far away so as to incur that much overhead in fuel seems bad planning...unless there was a reason for this...which, I was left a little hanging on after watching the video.
@UtmostOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone is annoyed with anyone. I think the whole thing was taken as an excellent learning experience. Onwards and upwards. I could tell listening to Andy that he learned so much from that first attempt, and he chose to be appreciative of the learning rather than bitter about the gold. That's the impression I got anyways...
@weedfreer Жыл бұрын
@@UtmostOutdoors yeah, that much I get...however, the area I'm still somewhat 'grey' about is as to how much of an oversight, if any, the choice of layout was. I understand that ultimately, yes, it's all a learning experience...however, I wasn't sure as to whether the positioning was as a result of the constraints imposed by the authorities (granted, as a result of the unique conditions present at the site), or was it more a case of neither one of them being particularly experienced in that respect and, therefore, it was not so much a point of contention, moreover, one giant exercise in lessons learnt. Knowing Dan from watching his channel, I would imagine he laid out the plan as per the correct interpretations of the authority's requirements...and that the annoyance/inconveniences incurred were a result of this. Basically, I'm not trying to pin any blame here...I just wasn't clear as to whether the plant layout was commited in a foolhardy way (of course, with the best intentions) or as to whether there were situations in place on site which led to the plan which was ultimately signed off on
@UtmostOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@weedfreer I guess that would have to be a question for Dan if I ever wind up sitting in a truck next to the guy :) I don't know enough about machine mining to even fathom a guess here. Great questions, and super cool to see at least some of the behind the scenes thought processes.

@@UtmostOutdoors I would love to sit in a truck and have a chat with you sometime. As for the layout, Andy and I discussed this lots after the fact. You know hindsight, 20/20 and all. Unfortunately the answer to this is far more than I can type here. The layout way trying to utilize an existing tailings pond, and wash plant landing that I used in previous years. And was placed there at the time because of seepage and runoff issues to follow government guidelines. The small area for the test trench was just that a small test trench to soo what was there. and unfortunately was an afterthought and very quickly added to the permits at the last minute, as the main permit was a much bigger area in behind that Sebo was planning to mine. On what we know is better ground. And again, *hindsight*, we should have put an amendment in right away when we saw that the distance was going to be a problem. Rather than just pushing through. And after I saw what that excavator could do it would not have been a problem to dig into the mountain to make a spot for a pond closer.

Sometimes the personal financial situation determines the final decision. I'm on my second career and could continue an effort. Some people I am working with, it is their only income. They need to feed their families and pay the bills. I see it as an additional investment that was just getting out as much as possible and because Andy could, he did.
