This is a good take on animal cruelty in the meat industry, not barring the consumtion of meat, but a simple statement about appreciation for the life that was taken to provide your single meal, hundreds of thousands of pounds of meat goes to waste every year due to over production mixed with storage and shipping mal-practice, these lives were created, taken, and then wasted, which anyone with empathy that extends beyond humans should find at least slightly disheartening. “Oh it’s totally fine he just ate a random other pig not Kalbi” I bet even the people raging against him can’t explain the logic behind this
@theproatthegame6160Ай бұрын
From their eyes, they find it morally wrong to personally bond a friendship with a pig before eating it. Let alone *raise* an animal before consumption. Rather, they prefer that the animal be executed without a bond so no relationship is felt between the two, therefore the act is seen humane. Basically, say you’re in a scenario where you will die a slow and excruciatingly painful death, but if you want to live, you have to choose to sacrifice your best friend of 20 years or a random guy off of the street. Most people would choose the random guy because no bond is felt between them and they have a 20+ year friendship with their friend. The line is usually drawn when there’s a friendship involved between the two. Eitherwise , it’s acceptable *im not saying that I don’t care about mistreated animals. I’m simply explaining what I believe to be the opinion/logic that most people follow by hence their opinion on the situation.* Summary: (basically someone else’s comment) “Some people need to differentiate pet from pork”

I love this. The perfect balance message for being morally good to animals, is to be good to the animals you eat, and also be thankful and not wasteful of the animals you eat regardless if you saw that animal alive. Vegans have over shot the mark and assume eating animals at all is cruel, and that causes them to do things that are much more cruel (like making their cat vegan and slowing watching it die a painful death). This guy's message perfectly answers the "why is it ok to eat cows but not dogs" the truth is, there is no real difference beyond things like nutrition levels and meat to body ratio. But at the end of the day, humans can technically eat most animals. Yet in some countries dogs and cats are taboo to eat, other countries have gangs that go around taking vengeance in people who eat cows. The thing that seems to make the difference is if your culture sees that animal as a companion or special, or if they are seen as food. People's opinion on which animals fit in which category, heavily depends on who you grew up with, and what the generations before you have concluded is good or bad to eat. I see people get demonized for eating unusual animals, I also see people get demonized for adopting unusual animals. Humans are complex and what is right and wrong is very complex as well. The message of "it doesn't matter if you eat animals or not, just be mindful and thankful of where your food came from, and the animals that may have been sacrificed so you can eat. You don't need to worship them, just don't waste it.

I think the only point that was problematic here is that the guy treated the pig with affection and that's the part that was the trigger for a lot of people, I think. Because apart from that, it's normal to take care of an animal from when it's a cub until it's slaughtered. My family had farms, you don't go to the market to buy meat if you have a pigpen on your property.

This comment made me realize what I found off about the story. I think he could have done this in a better way. It's one thing to make sure that the animal that eat you eat/turn into meat has a good life. It's another to treat an animal as a cutesy instagram pet with the plan of eating it. The latter gives an extremely unsettling connotation to the guy that he's perfect fine with killing and eating something he's mentally anthropomorphized and had visually shown the watchers bond-building activities he participated in with the pig (At least until the reveal). Someone who would casually plan to eat a pet, no matter the species, that they had treated lovingly will always be an unsettling concept. It's much different than a farmer that gives their animals great food, puts environmental stimulation in the pasture, treats them kindly but doesn't get emotionally attached,

As a kid I learned about the way that animals are often treated before being slaughtered. That scared me off and made me unable to eat meat again. I just couldn't do it after seeing how poorly they're treated. And then we tried meat from animals that did have a good life, but it tasted the same to me. And there was always that little voice going "but how do you know for sure this animal had a good life?" I ended up becoming a vegetarian around 11 years old and have kept that streak up even now in my mid twenties Edit: guys, I just don't like to eat meat. As a kid it was the realization of "meat comes from animals" and how those animals are treated. Nowadays it's just that I don't like the flavor of meat and enjoy vegetables more. I learned as I got older that choosing not to eat meat doesn't change much in the big scene and I've accepted that. I just don't feel comfortable eating animals. And pretty much as soon as I tried meat alternatives, I was hooked. It tasted much better to me and it was pretty easy for me once I did have a food that could replace meat on my plate. Nowadays I frequently just don't add a protein food to my meal and eat a completely vegan meal just because I like the taste of it. One time on camp I was given a plate of mushroom risotto. I am still trying to recreate that recipe because I enjoyed it so much, but I found other vegan risotto recipes on the road that I ended up loving just as much. @@bakerboat4572 First I wanna say sorry for my long comment, yes I am just bored today and feel like I need to say everything that is important for this convo. Things like lentils, beans and other legumes can also be protein and calorie dense and are often even cheaper than the meat. At least where I live it is cheaper. If it isn't where you live and those plants are much more expensive, then that sucks of course and then I can understand buying meat. But if you were wealthy enought to buy something else thwn I think people should choose that way. I can understand cattle farming the most from an efficiency standpoint, as for most other farm animals you need to use crops to feed them and could plant crips for humans to feed there instead, but yeah cattle does take some of that land that can't be used to grow crops directly for our consumtion. As far as I know only having crops directly for our consumtion would still be possible though and use less land, even of we can't plant it everywhere. Again, I don't know how it is where you live, but here about 60% of our agricultural ground is used to grow food crops for animals and most of the area where we can grow snimal feed we can also grow food for humans. It will be less space, but (again, where I live) calories from animal products are only about 1/3 of all the calories that we ,,grow" here, so even with less space to grow food, we would use that space more efficiently. Unfortunately sending any links for proof doesn't work for me on youtube. So you don't have to just believe me of course. If you want you can research sources. I work as a butcher in a meat department, and I absolutely agree. Something like 40% of all food is thrown out in the US, in between farm and table. I do my best to make sure as much of the animal gets sold, but I do ask that people do better at shopping for perishable foods, especially meat. There’s quite a few discount/surprise bags you can pick up from grocery stores, products that are on the verge of expiring, for a discounted price. My store uses an app called Too good to go.

There's sometimes literal tons of produce thrown out by farmers because they are "B grade." This means they have small blemishes, discolored spots, or are oddly shaped. Grocers won't accept them because spoiled/picky people won't buy them. That results in huge loses for farmers. Some say it can even go up to 40% in particularly bad seasons. That basically means up to 40% of all edible vegetable in our country get left to rot just because spoiled people don't want a two tone tomato, bent potato, or lumpy carrot that us still perfectly safe and delicious.

Since many people across multiple cultures hunt and eat them, while others in the same cultures have them as pets? And when you buy them (at least in American pet stores) you have to sign a little waiver that says you intend to have the animal as a pet or for pet food (for snakes and what not), but you aren't intended to eat the rabbit. I can explain the "logic" completely about why "one is okay but not the other." I do not think it is ethical to eat baby animals. I don't eat veal and other unethically sourced things for this reason. Eating an adult animal is an entirely different story and admittedly we try not to form emotional bonds with the animals we eat as humans more due to an illogical emotion-based rule rather than "yes one is factually more okay than the other." In this case people saw an adolescent animal being killed for meat before it's able to live a long life who was also treated as a companion animal rather than a food animal, it makes complete sense if you give it like 2 seconds of thought.

It shocks me that so many people don't realise this. That animals have ACTUAL personalities. Like you aren't just eating a slab of meat, you are eating an animal who had an unique mind, personality, who had a life. Who had feelings and memories. I am not against eating meat. But what I am against is disrespecting the creatures you consume.
