@@cedrickellenberger194 People say stupid things a lot. A lot of the people from South America come from backgrounds a lot rougher than most people in western countries. I know that having been there and have seen the slums. The culture is different there. He shouldn’t have done the joke and he knows that it was a mistake. He likes Sonny a lot and apparently called him in tears after it happened according to Sonny. Giving him a 7 week ban is a lot for saying a very bad joke. But that has to be the standard now. If you want to give 7 weeks for a joke that has to apply to all clubs.

It's disgusting how spurs have dealt with this. They should've came out immediately and said Bentencur made a mistake and we will be educating him in the error of his ways. His actions do not reflect the opinions of the club and we apologise to anyone that was offended. They then fine the player giving all proceeds to fight racism charities and accept any punishment that was given. You do not argue a ban when your captain was abused and that abuse was directed to the fanbase that Son brings to spurs.

Imagine suffering racist abuse and your consolation is having your number 6 banned for 7 weeks. You think sonny cares more about your savior complex trying to defend him or about his team having all its players. It should only be a fine to bentancur and the club. Not a ban only punishes sonny himself.

It is important to raise cultural & racial awareness. Having said that, he sincerely apologized & Sonny accepted. As silly & wrong as it was, clearly no malice. When i sense no blarant racist intent, i prefer education, rather than harsh punishment.

Do you think before you speak? Racism is racism full stop. There is no joking about racism, there is no but he's sincere and there is no arguments of no malice or intent. Footballers are role models to millions of people worldwide so when they make racist comments their followers will think it's ok which is absolutely wrong. You speak of education. Bentancur is not a child he's a grown man and knew 100% what he was saying because he immediately apologised so he knew he'd messed up. Enzo Fernandes was worse! UEFA has just given warning to turkish player Aral Simsir from danish side Midtjylland who shouted “free Palenstine” and “i hope you die” to opponents from Israelian side Mac Hafia. He got a warning for sonething much worse than Bentancur who made a bad joke
