Not all stunt doubles/models are for danger-sometimes it’s about time/cost. Every actor, stunt double, dummy, etc... have different costs and levels of availability. Sometimes an episode is made better because money allotted to say an actress doing her own stunt gets shifted somewhere else and they use a dummy instead.
@victorsixtythree

lorkac - makes sense. Actually, re-watching it again, it's possible that Gunn and Wesley are dummies too. But at least they're upright! [EDIT: never mind. Gunn's and Wesley's heads move - unless they're like bobble head dummies?]

In a weird way, I think Drusilla is possibly the most tragic character in either series. She loses everything as a human through no fault of her own, and then she loses her second "family" as a vampire because they wander off, get killed, get a soul, whatever. Bad enough to be damned, but damned and alone is really sad.

3rd family. Her 1st were her real family that angelus killed 2nd was her sister nuns at the convent she fled too to escape angelus. He killed them too. 3rd was the vamps. And angel killed one of those. But on the upside Dru dumped Spike, her last family member of you will….. so I don’t think she feels as bad about it as you do.

When people say that Angel is darker and grittier, it’s almost never because of gore or violence but because of the actual moral decisions he and his team makes. It’s riddled with mistakes, weaknesses, and difficult moments not often explored in the demographics the show was aimed at.

That is why they showed the 1950s flashback episode early on in this season. A little foreshadowing of the season's arc. Even as an ensouled vampire on the road to redemption, Angel is still battling his inner demon and darker half.
@jimmy2k4o
@jimmy2k4o 3 жыл бұрын
This wasn’t his inner demon. His inner demon would have joined the massacre. This was revenge/justice. I think this came from the darker side of Angel’s humanity. He did this because of all the people W&H hurt and killed, and would hurt and kill in the future. Any other group and angel would have saved them. But these guys, he’ll save more lives by letting these killers die. Imagine a room full of SS Nazis, would you doubt the morality of letting them get eaten? Personally I think saving a group of high ranking nazis (which would be the equivalent) would be a very immoral. Almost like being an accomplice to their future crimes.

5:17 Its such a small detail, but i fucking LOVE how Angel calls her "Dru". After all this time, after he's had a soul, after he all did to her and after all the atoning, he's still familiar with her. Angel and Dru are family, no matter who is good or evil. No one in either series has ever called her Dru except for Angel, Spike, and Darla. Those four (the Whirlwind) is my favorite part of both shows. The metaphor of how desperately you want to love your family no matter how toxic they are to your life is so relatable. Watching Angel and then Spike both go through that journey is an absolute heartbreaking joy

I think the reason Darla attacks Dru as well is that before she was turned this time, she wanted to die, or had at least accepted dying. So even though she doesn't have a soul now, the memory of that death wish, and her anger at Dru for turning her, is still there.

On Buffy, the turning point of the show was when Angel lost his soul. It elevated the series to a whole new level. If there's a similar moment in Angel, it's the ending of this episode. I think this is when the show gets really interesting.

except it's still not similar 'cause Angel was still Angel. He was just super pissed and fed up with these people. Save them? they let loose the biggest baddest vampires in history next to him and Spike! He had more of a soul than those lawyers who thought they were winning (hey they were celebrating Darla and Dru's reunion! wtf? that would be Angel's mind) but it ended up biting them in the ass. When Angel lost his soul in Buffy, he felt the need to torment Buffy and her friends.

Drusilla is my favorite vampire in Buffyverse. She scares me the most honestly. You don't know what's she's going to do. What's she going to say? What she knows? Alluring, caring, free, peace and childlike, and yet seductive, broken, extremely deadly. Completely unpredictable. For some reason, I always imagined what it'd be like if she were to sire Faith. I don't think Angel would ever want to inflict a soul onto another vampire. It is a literal curse to him. Calling Willow probably never crossed his mind.
@windowsVD

+Awarriorstill As much of burden the soul curse is, I think he'd prefer that to the alternative, which would be just letting vampires run amok and murder people. I think it has much more to do with the curse being designed specifically for Angelus and couldn't be used for other vampires. Otherwise, why didn't Buffy and the Scoobies ever try to ensoul chipped Spike and actually make him into a willing and contributing member of the group?

The scripts, acting, story, backstory they all awsome. If I in Angel's position I could do same thing. Yes Angel cross his limits but he is in desperate. He is sad, down. About firing Cordelia, Wesley and Gun its bad come on Angel don't do that to them. They got paid to have innocent people killed. It was just payback for everything they've done to him, to his team, to Darla, and to all the innocent people they've victimized. He could've put them in jail but they got too many connections and would find a way to escape or bail out... so yeah they got what was coming. Would you rather that Angel save them and possibly have them stab them in the back like what Lindsey did when Angel did him a favor? Angel basically sacrificed them. But he still has to stop the two most powerful vamps that these people brought in.

Christy Reserva that’s the danger though. Yes it can be argued they deserved it. But when you keep acting as if you are morally righteous, then where does the line end. If you are the sole arbiter of who deserves to live and die, then the line that needs to be crossed will keep moving. It will move so far that you are as evil as the lawyers. This morally grey area is exactly why Wolfram and Hart didn’t mind that all of them were dead. It pulled Angel closer to the grey which is what they wanted. At the end of the day, W&H couldn’t have been happier about it. So trying to justify it is questionable at best.

@@vlonewolfv It can't be argued that they deserved it, they definitely deserve it. They sold their souls to the devil for eternity and voluntarily dedicated their lives to murder, sacrificing babies, rape and all the worst things in the world. Lindsay literally went back to W&H after they tried to kill a bunch of kids because he got a promotion.....

By the time the comics happen, even the writers reference your "let that sink in" moment. For me the next arc of the season is the hardest part of the season, perhaps even the series. The whole point of the season with Darla was that the writers wanted to get Angel to this point here at the end of this episode. Kind of like Buffy in season 2 only Angel is in a darker place for different reasons and it is unintentionally and partly of his own making.

I love this arc. It might be my favourite in the Buffyverse. Morals and character driven story and just wow I love this.

If we're thinking Oedipus, Darla sired Angelus, and she was hoping he would sire her in return. It's normal, even epic, among vampires. Not weird at all, according to what Darla told the vamp in the bar last episode. No, I think the "I'm going to be a mummy" line ought to remind you of, "I could be your mummy" in the scene just before Drusilla sires Spike.

Wesley saying Angel is putting too much stock in someone (Druscilla) who is clearly crazy, doesn't understand her. Sure she's crazy, but there is a rationality, or a method to her craziness. It always makes sense in a certain way. I mean it makes sense to her. So Angel is right in understanding that the clues are there if he can just understand what she means.

The thing that always confused me about the wine cellar scene is, if the Wolfram & Heart guy is regularly working with demons and demon assassins where the hell is his home security? Surely someone coming to kill him is not an out of context situation. Aside from that, if Angel wanted everyone there dead including Dru and Darla setting the building on fire after locking them in would probably have been an effective plan but I guess he wasn't really thinking about that.

After what happened with human Darla at the hands of Drusilla w/ W&H, it pushes Angel over the edge. Angel goes from being a champion of the innocent and helpless, to becoming an agent of vengeance against evil, as he sets out to utterly destroy the true Evil of W&H (its "Senior Partners"). He adopts the same Machiavellian methods and mentality as his enemy, unconcerned with whatever collateral damage he may be causing to those he's meant to protect.

And now Darla is like Angel's granddaughter but also his mother and former lover? Vampire relationships, no matter what movie/book/show, are so creepy and weird. Another fantastic episode, just when you think nothing can top Angel locking everyone in to die, he fires everyone. To this day I don't really feel all that bad about what Angel did. When you associate with demons and vampires, as the people of Wolfram and Hart do, you kinda run the risk of not making it out alive

Drusilla and her creepy, lovely, demented, beautiful background music make me smile! Juliet was such a goldmine for this show. I guess it really does run in the genes! ... I do have one issue with this and it still bugs me all these years later. When a human becomes a vampire (on this show, at least) they die and a demon inhabits their body. The body is left with residual memories but the human is dead. So, when Darla was staked by Angel way back in "BTVS" that demon (and her human body) died. The demons don't go back to some "demonic waiting room" and sit around until another body becomes available. They die. When Darla is resurrected by Wolfram & Hart they bring back the human Darla. Therefore, when Drusilla kills Darla in the last episode a totally new and different demon possesses the body. Again, it may have Darla's residual memories but it is a new vampire otherwise. So, she should have only been as powerful as a "newborn". Nowhere near strong enough to give Angel any trouble, much less lift him up like a rag doll. She is no longer a 400-year-old vampire, she is a two-minute-old vampire. Just something that has always bothered me. If anyone responds, please keep in mind that Shan hasn't finished the series even though this is several months past her reaction of this episode. Cheers.

i know this is an old comment, but here's my two cents if anyone else comes across it. what you have to remember is that the entire bloodline comes from the master, essentially one of the most powerful vampires to ever live & every vampire from this bloodline is part of an elite few (which is partially why the whirlwind were able to become the worst vampires in history). dru is still a part of that bloodline, so darla is again sired as one of the stronger, more powerful vampires. if you remember back to when angelus crawled out of his grave, he was almost instantly pure evil, which may be partly to do with this. i also think part of what made darla and angelus so dangerous was the time they had together to perfect their skills - re-sired darla still has all these memories so should theoretically know her own strength and how to use it. it makes sense that the new darla would be powerful, but also from the show's perspective its probably best to just overlook it as opposed to having a weak and whingey darla for a few episodes lol.

1:43 -1:56 Huh. You just bought up a great what-if for the Angel Series: What-if Angel called Willow to give Darla a soul after Drusilla sired her? My guess is she would have settled on being a part-timer at first for the Angel Team like Gwen Raiden or Groosalugg. Drusilla would have eventually been ensouled as well by Willow since the spell worked for Darla. Darla would still be into being a mythic mate with Angel, visions from The Powers That Be would be handled a lot quicker with 2-3 ensouled vampire champions, & Connor would have been born sooner, but this time around the Angel Team would have been in less of a race-against-time because there would be no Holtz to interfere & someone (let's say Fred) would have suggested a C-section for Darla. With Angel & Darla co-parenting Connor, Holtz would have not taken Connor to Quor'toth, Jasmine would have not been birthed by Cordelia, Lilah would be running Wolfram & Hart instead of the Angel Team, & the Circle of the Black Thorn would have still been the instrument for the Senior Partners while being more elusive to Angel Investigations.

When willow cursed Angel back in Buffy Season 2, the curse was specifically only for him, and no one else. That’s why it can’t be done. That specific curse was conjured up by the gipsies as punishment for Angel. I’m sure she could of been rein souled by someone or something else, but that specific curse would not work on Darla.

People who debate about the moral implications of Angel letting Dru and Darla kill those lawyers are missing the most important part. THERE WERE NOT JUST LAWERS INSIDE THAT CELLAR . There were innocent people in there. All +ones and the CATERING STUFF. They were innocent and he condemned them to horrible and violent death.

Angel letting D&D eat these (more evil than normal) lawyers feels good, but it’s wrong. It’s the classic “two wrong don’t make a right” It could have easily provoked W&H to take revenge on Angel or his friends. Violence and revenge are a never ending cycle, where each rotation gets more extreme and painful than the previous one. There another old saying “when you’re seeking revenge on someone, dig two graves. One for them and one for yourself” In life there are many choices to be made. In my limited life experience the harder choice, the less emotionally satisfying choice, the choice you don’t want to make is usually the right choice. Saving these lawyers would have been right, maybe a couple of them would be inspired by Angel saving them despite their enmity, and they would change their life for the better. Maybe he would have saved their souls as well as their lives. Remind me who was it in this show that made a big deal about saving souls as well as lives…….. We might have enjoyed watching this but this was not “angel” thing to do. Just shows how far W&H pushed him with the Darla plan. Angel is still part human after all. I feel this was a human decision not a demonic one.

I am remembering now that when I first saw this season, I liked it a lot, but it also confused me. I mean the actual plot ... who was trying to do what to whom, and why. Some of that’s intentional, but I also think maybe they tried to jam in just a few too many twists. Still an amazing story, and the performances are stellar. But if you are at all confused by the back and forth of things, I think it’s understandable.
