Love seeing your reviews. Especially when they are on a whiskey i can actually obtain and afford. This was a great one as I learned a lot about the distillery and the whiskey. I've got a bottle and am really looking forward to getting to it after this. Thanks for posting!

Just opened the bottle yesterday and shared it my family. Got many compliments and even the ladies who are mainly wine drinkers actually enjoyed it. I was hoping you would do a review. Bam, you did the review on the next day. Cheers!!! Oh, and we were also having steaks with it.

I just got this in the Rye and it’s utterly delicious. The mash bill is 95% rye finished in rum and cognac barrels for 18 months. Pricey at $90 but worth every penny at 50% ABV

Just bought a bottle yesterday and even though I dont care for bourbon neat (yet...like anything else if you stick with it long enough) It sure makes an incredible old fashioned, not to bad & $49.67 out the door.

I've been an AE fan since the first time I tried it, about 6 years ago. Finally went to their distillery about a week ago. Fantastic tour! The tasting comes paired with chocolates, which was also great! Hopefully since you made this video you've had a chance to test out the rye. As much as I love their bourbon, I think their rye is on a whole other level!

Just tried this...definitely enjoy it. It's weird but it sort of reminds me of Glenmorangie's The Lasanta...subtly fruity and sweet with a delicious nutty/vanilla finish. I think it is delicious but I was expecting a bit more of a red wine taste...I wonder what happens when they age it longer in those port barrels.
@TheWhiskeyDictionary3 жыл бұрын
Interesting... this is port finished, the glenmo is sherry finished.

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary That's why I thought it was a bit strange actually...I would need to taste them both side by side but for some reason it brought some memories of The Lasanta.

I have to say as good as the Angels Envy line is I’m surprised you don’t see more wine finished bourbons. I did enjoy the port finish but was floored by the Caribbean rye!

Great review. I always buy your affordable suggestions but I haven't bought this one yet , been tempted a few times but it's 80 dollars in Ontario. When rare breed is 68 or kc 120 is 66 ( both awesome) it's hard to spend the extra $ on a much lower proof whiskey. Cheers.

I really like how the port is balanced and not overwhelming. Too many finished whiskies taste more like the finish than the whisky and are unbalanced.

You're killing it with these intros. I personally think this is a bit too proofed down and wish it was closer to $40. I generally enjoyed finished whiskey and while I do like this, $50+ puts it in competition with some seriously stiff competition bourbon-wise.

What a great review! You’ve really upped the B roll game (not that you had to but it’s super cool). Your first smell sounded like Darth Vader going in for a nosing. I say that as a Star Wars fan. It’s a good thing :) I agree with your review 100%. I had this for the first time with a food friend on a business trip. I had such a fond memory about the trip, the company, and the Angel’s Envy that I worried it wouldn’t live up to my memory when I have it again. Well, I bought it about a month ago and cracked it open last week. It totally lived up to the memory hype.

Great video, love to finally see what you thought of Angel’s Envy! If the distillery has only been functioning since 2016, do you know when they will release their first batch of completely self-produced whisky? I tried to look it up but couldn’t find anything, so I’m guessing it will be within the next two years or so, but I want to be ready to run to the store once it comes out!

So...... I have another question I’m hoping you can answer. Is a whiskey still aging once it is bottled ? My thinking is how wine changes and improves in the bottle over the years. Does whiskey continue to evolve once bottled? Hope that makes sense. Thx in advance for any thoughts.
@TheWhiskeyDictionary3 жыл бұрын
It actually doesn't. Once whiskey is bottled it's a finished product. Wine continues to age because of some of the solute that's diluted in the wine. Whiskey ages specifically when it's in the barrel.

Hi , enjoy your reviews and info. I have a question.., I understand that for whiskey to legally be called bourbon you can only age it in a charred oak barrel. How is this still labeled bourbon if it’s finished in the port wine barrel? I’m comparing it to Alabama style which is bourbon finished in Apple barrels but can’t be legally called bourbon. I hope my question makes sense
@TheWhiskeyDictionary3 жыл бұрын
It totally does! Great question. I'm guessing you're talking Clyde May's. Bourbon needs to be 51% corn, aged in New charred oak barrels, and a few other requirements. The addition of apples is what really does Clyde May's in. Finishing in an ex port barrel is ok, as long as there is under a certain amount of port left in the barrel. It's a weird designation and comes down to definition rather than what's actually being made
@mcigraff3 жыл бұрын
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary makes sense. Yes I was referring to Clyde Mays. Thanks for replying also. I’m enjoying a pour of Angels Envy at this moment. Ha.
