Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Tawny Port Wine Barrels : The Mash & Drum EP95

Today is a new release review with special guest Jim Shannon from The Bourbon Road Podcast! Angel's Envy announced the second release in its Cellar Collection, ANGEL’S ENVY Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Tawny Port Wine Barrels. ANGEL’S ENVY’s oldest single release to date, it is crafted from 10-year-old bourbon and is put through an extended finishing process for 10 months in tawny port barrels. The limited run of just 5,400 bottles will be available for purchase beginning on February 8 at select retailers in KY, CA, FL, IL, NY and TN, as well as at ANGEL’S ENVY’s distillery in downtown Louisville with a suggested retail price of $250.

Your absolutely correct on that purchase comment “you’ll see a bottle and you’ll pick it up spur of the moment”. That’s how I bought my bottle. I didn’t go hunting for it. Looking forward to popping the cork on it soon! Cheers!

Probably try and get a pour of this one at my local whiskey dig, but at $250/bottle, not sure if this will show up on my shelf....unless of course it comes with a divorce attorney which I'd need once my better half finds the receipt. Port wine = Portugal ! I am a bourbon drinker but also like port wine .madera wine from the azores is the best port wine in the world. They been making it for centuries, used to carry barrels of it on their ship in the age of discovery because it didn't spoil like typical wine.you can be sure magellan,degamma,Columbus and other explorers all had plenty of port wine aboard their ships.my family can to the U.S.A from Madeira so i literally grew up drinking it.it is the only wine i drink on any regular basis.

I had this in Rye and it was utterly delicious. At 50% ABV with a 95% rye mash bill, the whiskey was finished in rum cognac barrels. So good. Pricey though at $90.

For $250 it's a no go for me.. Honestly with everything great out there I've never had a bottle that expensive that was actually worth it.. Heck even AE makes the Cask Rye that's fantastic for a third the price of this. I'm a subscriber now. Well done sir

You can get it down in Houston pretty easily, though its starting to become allocated and price is rising.ive seen they have the AE rye is well, though the price ive seen was significantly higher than the standard. I certainly enjoy it, at MSRP everything tastes better lol

I hear Illinois and I’m like yes! Then I hear the price and I’m like 😖. This does sound great. But I’d want a long finish for that price. After trying Johnnie Walker Blue and getting disappointed because of the finish alone. But i agree there may be some that dig shorter finishes. Cheers 🥃

Great Review.. I was at the local ABC store(state run liquor in VA) and the clerk pointed this out to me in his broken English 'berry good berry sweet' I was like what the hell is this.. well now I know.. its worth checking out the normal one.. the 250$ might be a stretch..

Hey man have You been able to get a hold of the Angel’s Madeira cask for 2021? I saw and impulsively snagged one today (TX here) for slightly below MSRP and there is very little on it on KZbin. Ridiculous prices online. Just wanted to know what I’m getting into before I pop it!

I would love to try it but here in Ohio it’s hard to find some of these special releases and we can get wine and beer shipped to your home but not liquor for some reason...makes it tough on us!! Any suggestions on how to improve my collection!?🤓👍🏻. Also thanks for the videos you’ve helped me understand more of what makes a bourbon!

Thanks Bradley! Glad to help you out with your bourbon questions. As far as helping your collection ..in Ohio getting to your nearest store on delivery day early always helps. Traveling to Kentucky and making whiskey hunting a priority I'm trips in different states helps alot too. But building relationships with your store owner is the best way.

I like Angel’s Envy finished bourbon and the rye. Both are great and somewhat regularly available... but with all these special, unobtainable, ridiculously expensive releases I’m getting pretty annoyed with the brand. No thanks I’ll spend my money elsewhere. And you’re welcome to anyone who is going to say it... more out there for you. But thank you Jason C for the review. Best solo whiskey reviewer I’ve seen.

Different flavor profile on the Madiera but good sweetness if you like that. I love the high rye mashbill in Belle Meade but I think the AE is bit more complex. Needed a longer finish though,

Sounds nice just not in my budget. And some of the better whiskys I can't get without ordering. I'm more a scotch drinker but I do enjoy a good American whiskey time to time.

I don't think this one is in most budgets. Not a 250 dollar bottle in my opinion. It's nice but needs to be exceptional at that price. I'd take an Ardbeg Corrvy over this. Cheers.
