I used to be a victim of spouse abuse for 21.5 yrs from age 13 to 35. We ourself don't understand why we linger so long in an abusive marriage. Good thing I only have 2 kids within those 21.5 years. I finally set myself free at last, found the man who truly loves me for who I am and finally find peace and quiet once and for all. It's not easy but you have to try to forget the past and live the present and future only. My ex husband is as abusive as this guy in this story but jobless and low life. He always think he have all the right in this world, what he does best is abuse, manipulate, and threats but at the end I set myself free forever, it makes you a stronger woman and stronger person.

These Hmoob men keep thinking that staying and taking care of the children are so easy, they should stay home themselves and doing everything that we wives do it when we are home. It is a 24/7 job. I am a stay home mom and I rather be going out to work. I don't work because if I do I am still going to do the same house work after the job.

WOW!!! This man has no appreciation for his wife who bears all his children and sacrifices so much. He should love her and appreciate every scar on her body. I rather work 10 hours and let the wife take care of those many kids. Only a coward man would hit his wife. There are no places on earth for abusive spouses. People like your husband are worst than dogs. I’m glad you got away from his torture but why wait so long. To the husband, why don’t you pick someone your own size? I have the lowest respect for abusive husband like you and I am a husband myself. I have been married for over 20 years never once I showed physical aggression toward my wife. She’s my gate keeper and my soulmate. She gave me children and the happiness I can never find anywhere on earth and forever I will be at her side. I hope “you” the husband can change.

It took you this long to free yourself but I’m glad you did. There are so many stories like this in our community. I wish Hmong women would stop enduring abuse like this whether it’s physical, emotional, or mental. We need to be smarter and love ourselves. We often put everyone’s needs, especially our husbands, first and neglect our own. And please stop having so many kids. Children are a blessing but too many is not healthy for your body. Finally, stop protecting abusers! Call the cops and put him in jail. The clan only protects men not women. Your neej tsa are the cops! They are the only one that will help you. Use the resources in this country to protect you!

It's easy to say u done this to ur self by not leaving or reporting him. I've experienced it watching my mom going through some of the same things. Its hard, trust me. I'm just glad my mom finally had the courage to leave and it was after all 7 kids were raised and grown adults.

Omg I have read some of the comments here saying y did she stay with him so long , she did said that she tried to leave him but he threaten to kill her and her children back in those days is not as easy to leave a marriage in our Hmong counter and be side she doesn't have any o ne to help her, it's too easy to said when it's someone else but it's not that easy when its happened to you I'm just feel so sad for her 😭😭😭😭 that she went through such a hard life 😭😭

First off she already did take all the kid's and left him. But she decided to go back to him willingly. If she really wanted to leave him and divorce him she could've at any time. Especially when she's got domestic abused and been to hospital and the cops even arrested him. Her children are grown enough to know. She have no excuse. But keep using your children as excuse to stayed and repeatedly abused and mistreatment by him.

This story is just a glimpse of what she endured. But after listening you want to victim blame? That she did this to herself? It’s people like you that is so judgmental and put blame on the women which makes it so hard to get out of a relationship like this. Even though it’s the guy that causes all the pain. Good for you to never have been put in this position. Instead of showing sympathy, you show your ugly heart through your thoughtless words. And before you make more judgements, I am a product of an abusive father to my mother. More than one person is hurt. So did the children choose to be in this environment too? Don’t forget she married in the early 80s. It’s hard to see from her perspective because we live in a totally different era, and some of us are fortunate to have been raised with a different mindset. Truly sad she grew up in the era where Hmong women have no voice and no value. Yes, we have more resources now to help with these kind of situation but maybe during her time there weren’t as much resources. Also let’s not forget it’s her generation that created a lot these resources to help us now. Without bad experiences there will be no improvement.
