Yes. I know at least 3 couples that are first Cousins. Not even distant cousins, real first cousins that are married. And a few of their kids looks weird.

Hmong have a long history of incest. First cousin marrying has been completely ok even up to now. It's possible that your grandmother and grandfather were very close related.

Cousin marriages is not incest. Incest is closer than that, it's between siblings or a parent and child. The 3 adults in this story most likely carried a recessive genetic marker for physical and/or mental disabilities. I put money on the two brothers. As the woman had children from a previous marriage and there was no talk about them not being 100%. This genetic trait passed on to the man who wrote in the story, his father. His father had 3 disabled and 3 normal children. The one normal sister had one child that's disabled. It's not a cursed or two brothers doing wrong by sharing one woman.

It’s genetic. Every person is a carrier of 1-5 diseases. It possible that the brothers & wife are a same carrier of a disease therefore have a high chance of pasting it to the kids.

If Grandma's other kids that went back to live with their relatives are okay with no disabilities than maybe it's in the Grandpa's genes. But if those other kids also have disabilities or children with disabilities, than it's Grandma's genes.
