The only difference is Americans don't marry the mistress as a second wife and move them in like Hmong does. But if you think polygamy is Hmong men's fault, you are wrong. It's all Hmong women's fault. Just think about it. If the 1st wife doesn't want to be a 1st wife, there wouldn't be polygamy. If the 2nd wife doesn't want to be a 2nd wife, there wouldn't be polygamy. The reason Hmong has multiple wives is because the wives are willing to be in a polygamist marriage. Hmong women like men who are already married because married men have a house, car, job, money, etc already so the 2nd wife wants all that without having to start from zero. If Hmong women have the pick of a young, single guy who is still in school and an older man who is married and has money, Hmong women will pick the older man even if it's to be his 2nd or 3rd wife. 2nd wives are treated better than the 1st wife and 3rd wives are treated better than the 1st and 2nd wives. So Hmong women are happy to be the new wife. These reasons are why Hmong still have polygamy. It's all because Hmong women are willing to be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th wives. Take for example the Hmong Americans men who go to Laos. They're still married to their wife in the US but they go marry a teenager in Laos and brings her over to be his 2nd wife. How can this happen? It's because the women allow it to happen. The 1st wife can't divorce the husband so she agrees to divorce him on paper only so he can bring their 2nd wife to the US and the Hmong Lao wife doesn't mind to be the 2nd wife. Some wives even take their husband to Laos to find a 2nd wife for their husbands.
