Angela Winbush is an American R&B/soul singer-songwriter, musician and record producer who rose to fame first in the 1980s R&B duo René & Angela, also scoring hits as a solo artist. To date, Winbush has sold over 10 million albums and singles worldwide
She was born on January 18, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. She studied architecture and music education at Howard University, where she also sang with gospel legend Richard Smallwood. She became a protégé of Stevie Wonder and joined his backing vocal group, Wonderlove1
She met singer Rene Moore in Los Angeles and formed the duo René & Angela in 1977. They released three albums and had two top 20 R&B hit singles, “I Love You More” and “My First Love”. They also wrote and produced songs for other artists, such as Janet Jackson, Stephanie Mills and The Isley Brothers
She launched her solo career in 1987 with the album Sharp, which featured the hit singles “Angel” and “Run To Me”. She also married Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers in 1993 and became a member of the group. She released two more solo albums, The Real Thing in 1989 and Angela Winbush in 1994. She also survived ovarian cancer in 2003 and continued to perform and record music.
She is widely regarded as one of the most talented and versatile female singers of her generation, with a distinctive voice that can range from soulful to operatic. You did an excellent job for telling Ms. Winbush's story and life, loved those never before seen pictures during her "Sharp" album. Ummmm, Angela never released an album in 1998 called Love Supreme. Just curious about some of these erroneous factoids within this video. Some things are read accurate but others don't sound correct. Respect this incredible artist gift and pay homage to her rightfully! Let's do better!
