Hairdresser here! You did a great job! Congrats on your research too. You could use 20 or 30 vol for bleach but 30 would have got your hair lighter! No cringing from me… it looks great! I love your attitude too… it’s only hair ! Well done ❤

I think the only thing you got wrong was the timings and the toner. Toner can’t lighten hair, you can only tone the level of colour you have which was around a level 7/8 (hard to tell without seeing in person). 20 vol with bleach will only lighten your hair 2 to 3 shades. 30 vol will lighten 4 to 5 shades. I would have chosen an ash toner too. Hope that helps! Xx

10 vol may be a better addition to your toner. 20 vol will lighten/and dry out your hair but 10 will not...safer bet.❤

I used to have my hair highlighted blonde in the 1980's (back then they were called 'blonde tips'), my hair was a tiny bit longer than urs is now. When u mentioned the cap, I remembered the pain. Every hole they pulled hair out of, they stuck a crochet hook through and it jabbed my scalp and hurt like F but I guess they had to jam it into ur scalp to get a grip on the hair at the root. It was the same wherever I went to get it done, it just hurt a lot when it jabbed my scalp over and over again. When the roots would grow out I'd go and get it done again and over time my hair got more and more blonde all over and looked more solidly blonde than highlights. You did an awesome job the way u did it anyway, and it probably was good to avoid using a cap from my own experience.

I've been (hairdresser has been) scalp bleaching my hair for probably 25 years (I have extremely good strong thick hair and it's in really good shape thankfully)... Just so you know you don't have to dry your hair before you do your toner but it does a really matter either way. VERY cute! I like the look, You did a good job! ❤

I've done this before when I had a pixie, and you need to use a comb with the bleach. So basically combing the bleach through and it will give more of a highlighting effect.

My experience w lifting colour is that it darkens the colour and depending on the tone you selected, it gives the undertone of that shade. I got the purple,e and ice blue which it made my blonde look more towards dirty blonde. I thought you knew what you were doing as I am trying to educate myself to give the handbrushn contour vibe 😂😂😂 but I love your hair. It has nice volume with beautiful shine. ❤❤❤

I've done that quite a bit in my years as a colorist, in long and short hair or just to blend in the roots in the lighter color, but I will say that using a fine comb instead of a brush like that makes easier and less messy while spreading the bleach. You could 30% volume instead of 20% but it's more drying and you could overbleach the hair... Darker hair always has a strong "orange" pigment, so when I wanted to sure to neutralize the natural pigments both orange and yellow, I was mixing a beige blonde with an ash blond together especially if I used 30%. Looks nice, good job!! 👏👌

If you used 20 volume developer on natural hair, it will lighten it. I know the Well tells you to use 20 volume but that’s for permanent color so it is better to use 10 volume so that it doesn’t lighten your natural hair even though it tells you to use 20 don’t do it. Your hair is already in compromised so next time only use a 10 volume developer

Hairdresser here!!! I have a haircut very similar to yours and my hair is naturally dark brown...only my hair is curly. My suggestion for next time would be to use a cap (just bc of simplicity). Also, you could use 30 volume to kick up the brightness of those highlights OR even do an even mix of 20 and 30 to make like a 25 volume (so it's a little more powerful but not as much as the 30 volume). BUT, you did great and it looks beautiful!!!! I ran out of caps last time I was ready for more highlights and decided to balayage it (bc I'm a hairdresser, right? No problem. WRONG! 🤣) I would paint it on like you did EXCEPT then my curls would kick in and twist and flip so bleach was touching everywhere it wasn't supposed to! 🤣🤣 It was awful. Ended up dying the whole thing dark brown again.....then ordering caps and starting over while chastising myself, "Anna you're a hairdresser....how did you NOT take into account the curls?! 🙄" Love your attitude about it too! It IS just hair and it'll grow back! Life's too short to not just try something fun 💞

It came out very nice and natural. If you wanted it very ashy, you would just have left the bleach on longer until it was almost white and then your toner would’ve worked better other than that it looks very nice on you.

Hairdresser here, I think your “toner” mixed with 20v added the extra warmth . Next time try a toner that deposits with no lift . Like Shades EQ , or PM Shines. You hair is gorgeous!

Cosmetologist here... You can't ask us where you went wrong. 🤣 We go to school for 1500 hours. Obviously, you look fine and you're satisfied with the results, so that's great! I was debating watching this because of the cringe factor. lol A word of warning though, never use 20vol developer and higher on your scalp. And for toner, use 10vol or lower. ♡

Bottom line folks well toners are permanent, which means you have to use 20 volume. That also means that it’s not a toner but it’s a permanent die because once you add 20 volume, it’s permanent. if you wanted to be Demi permanent or a true toner, only use 10 volume no matter what the direction say 20 will lighten your natural hair bottom line and also close compromise

Professional here and Yes I’m cringing….. T-18 LIFTS as it is permanent color so it lifted your natural to match your highlights. It looks nice though. Note for next time, don’t use Wella T line to tone unless your dying your whole head. Use a Demi in V for blonde or B for darker blondes. If your hair is Very Yellow, pre tone with V so your hair doesn’t turn green. Yellow and blue make green

You didn't really do anything WRONG...but next time use the 30 volume...and make sure you saturate the hair you're putting the bleach on. You didn't lift it enough for the toner to work. Personally I'd like to see the purple stuff in your hair.
