Associate Tribe If the interviewers asking regarding about ourself, what actually we should tell them about, personal background or more on professional background?
@AngelaVorpahl5 жыл бұрын
@@budakpotter Great question! When asked an open-ended question like "tell me about yourself" I like to respond with a mix of personal and professional information, with an emphasis on events in my life that got me interested in pursuing a legal career and professional internships, experiences, skill sets, and personality characteristics that make me a strong candidate for the position. Weaving some personal story touches into your explanation of why you are the best person for the job adds a more human element to your answer while of course talking yourself up a ton :)

Should I make it personal “I was falsely convicted and everything got reversed and withdrawn in a retrial so it inspired me to make that an individual doesn’t haven’t go through the same thing I did”
@AngelaVorpahl4 жыл бұрын
@@Sgtturtle22 I wouldn't phrase it that way because we want the energy to be positive and passionate but not cross the line into angry or defensive. So I would rephrase it more along the lines of: "I'm interested in going to law school because of a particularly challenging experience I had in which I experienced firsthand the importance of a strong and capable attorney who is an expert in the law and committed to pursuing justice. And that's what inspired me to be able to position myself to do the same for someone else."

Hi Angela! I NEVER comment on youtube videos but I wanted to let you know that I am a 2L and I had an interview with a law firm for a Summer Associate program yesterday and was naturally FREAKING THE HELL OUT in anticipation of it. I started desperately searching ideas on how to attack this monster literally two days ago and was lucky enough to come across your channel and started watching your videos on this topic. I followed all of your advice and guess what? I GOT THE JOB... ON THE SPOT!!! I still cannot believe it! I’m so incredibly happy and I felt like you should know the impact you made in me. Your channel is amazing and SO informational. I’ve become addicted to your videos! Haha Anyways, thank you so much for everything you do. You are amazing! XOXO :)

@@AngelaVorpahl with the help from you, I got the job, thank you so much. Beside the normal questions, there was a different one that I want to share with you "Which kind of case are you "not "interested in? " and the partner explained the reason he asked was that he wanted to make sure what kind of cases he needs to put more time on me. I didn't think about that but answered that "To be honest, I have no experience before, so that I haven't found a dislike type, but I will tell you if you give me the chance to try" The partner just smiled, and I don't know how my answer scored lol. Anyway, I got the job. Thanks for your video, they are really helpful. And I will push them to my law school friends. Thank you from Taiwan.
@AngelaVorpahl4 жыл бұрын
@@royhuang5925 That's AWESOME!!! Congratulations!!! With respect to the "which kind of case are you NOT interested in" question (which definitely feels like a trick question in the sense that he just wants to see how you're going to answer not that he's actually interested in the types of cases you don't want to work on), I would have said something along the lines of: "To be completely honest, there is no type of case that I'm not interested in working on. I am so excited to jump in and hit the ground running and learn as much as I possibly can about every aspect of the firm's practice so that I can build up my expertise and increase my value add to the firm as quickly as humanly possible. So wherever the greatest need is, that's where I'd love to jump in first." :)

What do we say when the question is on the other law firms that we have applied to or that we have had an interview with?
@AngelaVorpahl4 жыл бұрын
Great question! If they ask who else you've applied with, I'd say something like: I've applied to several other [law firms] in [Austin] that also have a client-driven focus in the [litigation] space, and really put a premium on building up the strength of all of the lawyers on their team so that every member of the team is bringing value to the cases and projects and able to offer solutions. And I'm really excited to find a fit where I can hit the ground running, learning, and adding value right away. If they ask who else you've interviewed with, I'd say something like: I've been fortunate enough to have been invited to interview at several other firms in [Austin] in the [litigation] space, and I would ideally love to join a team where there’s a strong team structure, and where I can hit the ground running learning and adding value right away. So basically you're turning the question into a selling point for yourself -- you want to work hard, ideally in a particular practice area, and whichever place will give you that chance is where you want to be :)

Easy for me! I'm in High School but I have a true passion for law so I would most likely respond this way when I get interviewed at a law firm (I would elaborate more, of course) *Why did you go to Law School?*: I was always passionate about the law and its segments, my mother was a lawyer so I grew up in this whole environment and I've loved it ever since I can remember. *What practice areas are you interested in?*: Corporate Law because of --- (right now, I want to be a corporate lawyer because I really love developing contracts and reading breaches, etc) *Why do you want to work at OUR law firm?*: I love the work environment and challenging myself (I agree with you on this one lol, I hate this question so much because come on, no one is truly honest about it, maybe like 40%)

Hey what was your answer for what vegetable would you be and why?
@AngelaVorpahl5 жыл бұрын
Haha soo I never got asked this question, but I did get asked what kind of PLANT I would be (which is equally ridiculous). Years ago I heard a great response to these type of questions, and I would 100% recommend using it: (1) you list out a series of strong characteristics about yourself ("Well, let's see, I'm a hard worker, dedicated, a team player, excited to learn new skills, and enthusiastic about accomplishing goals"), and then (2) you literally pick any random vegetable/plant/animal ("So I guess I would be broccoli."). It's amazing and fool-proof :)
