As someone who was, admittedly, a little shit in primary school and early high school, I agree with you on not canceling a person over that. HOWEVER, if they still haven't grown up from that and taken accountability for it by their mid-twenties (Like Mikayla here), that's when you have a problem. If she changed, then she would’ve taken accountability and apologized. Pretending it didn’t happen and moving on with your life is NOT the same as changing and becoming a better person.

I think the main takeaway from the people coming out from working with her at the store all the way back to middle school is that it’s consistent bullying. It’s about the long history of behavior being the same. It’s the history or constant lying. It’s the history of being self centered. So is it super important? Not really. I bet some of those people have changed, but if they were continuing to do bad things while getting rich and famous off it I'd be really pissed and betrayed feeling. like, this person got to RUIN my self esteem for years, and they get to be famous??? like if youre being a bad person now id feel totally valid in exposing how they bullied me bc some people aren't just "they didn't give me a pencil thats bullying" some people are "horrible manipulative people who systematically destroy the identities of those around them"

You know what really sucks? When we can't even trust our favorite beauty influencers, we are also at a point where online reviews on beauty products are overwhelmingly positive no matter what the product is due to Influenster and other companies that offer products in exchange for a review. I dont know what reviews are genuine, and which ones are positive for incentives. We need a strictly genuine and honest place and people in the beauty community again. I see it less and less. Mikayla has never given me a genuine vibe and she's done certain things to stand out but are those things that have made her stand out...is that her staying true to herself? Never lose yourself or lose your genuineness for the sake of incentives.

Yessss! I think every social media platform specifically IG and TikTok, needs to have a mode or something where if an influencer is doing a sponsored post….the word “sponsored” needs to automatically be mentioned…..Like TikTok and IG need to create some type of thing where let’s just say I was an influencer and I was doing a sponsored post for M.A.C……once I post the video, TikTok or IG would automatically generate something that says “sponsored”

This comment right here perfectly encapsulates why the FTC needs to crack down on influencers, native marketing (where it looks like a news article but it’s really an ad), and sponsored reviews for the consumer, so I’d like to throw in the perspective of a business trying to compete as well. 😊 I work somewhere where we legit test products before they go to market, we have about 300 Fortune 500 level clients; and paid reviews are a serious serious issue for _all product developers in all companies_ rn. I don’t mean just companies paying for reviews for themselves, but I mean as a competitor, another company paying for them can hurt YOU. You can’t compete legitimately against a lie, you just can’t. Let’s pretend I’m Bose. So I make an amazing little speaker with all these proprietary features I spent years developing with a team of 40 and then pay for a expensive hardware patent… I will probably need to charge like 500 bucks for said little speaker before I can get production ramped up w multiple suppliers and reduce cost. But while I do that, Suzy’s Speakers gets some crap from china and claims it is the exact same thing for only 50 dollars, and hires some shady company to do incentivized reviews. Well now their lie looks very legit, but I’m sure you are wondering why this hurts me, personified Bose. “So someone buys a crappy speaker, what’s your problem? Seems that person learned the hard way and it should make you look good when they get yours!” Well, and this might surprise you if you are a returner like me, but people don’t typically “try again”, and especially with products that cost more than 20. Also suzy h speaker is probably gonna get some customers who would have otherwise considered saving or waiting for mine to be cheaper, but they legit just think it’s the same thing and then think “well dang I don’t want to even try the expensive one because all those features do nothing to make the sound experience better anyway!” This kind of thinking following a _false_ cheaper competitor product launch *can and has* put companies with amazing products out of business in a matter of a few weeks. Timing is critical during some product launches… anyway, at least I, Bose, am safe from that fear. 😂😂😂😂 Seriously tho for me, THAT really sends me flying on undisclosed reviews… paid reviews and false advertising is anti-competitive behavior and we live in a capitalist market, so they should be treated as such. FINE AND STRAIGHT TO JAIL 😂 Fortunately over here in CA the CADOJ is cracking down in this crap hard RN!!! I love it! HOPEFULLY if you don’t live here it will trickle over to benefit you as the CADA continues to file suits against all these little liars who lie ❤

@@tiamarrow6366do you mean like an AI that can determine if a video is an undisclosed sponsored post and then it marks it as sponsored? people who did indeed bully people in school should be called out in it, in my opinion. speaking from experience, that shit ruins peoples lives and can completely alter the way their personality and character develops. this attitude of 'oh kids are mean, what are you gonna do!' is a ridiculous justification, no child should have to fear coming into school because teachers n parents think it's 'normal' for them to be treated like dirt. as far as cancelling a public figure for it, i think thats entirely dependant on whether the allegations can be backed up (in mikayla's case it doesn't look like it) and if the person feels genuine remorse for their behaviour, and has altered it.

I COMPLETELY agree about Tik Tok bringing out the WORST in people, in particular beauty influencers. I am in my 40s, so I am looking around, wondering if it is just because I am old or if it is because I trained as a fine artist (mainly painting portraits) and, similar to Scott Barnes, using that knowledge to figure out makeup artistry theories and techniques, and that maybe I am bitter??? Here's the deal with school bullies: they can grow and they can change but to the person they terrorize they will always be that person and I will never ask anyone who was bullied to just let people that made their life hell just "grow" and forgive and forget. Many bullied kids take their own lives and the bully just continues about their life and gets to "grow and get past that and be better". I had a girl who wasn't like breaking my bones or anything but she did make me cry a lot and threatened me often just because she was the tall girl, eventually, as adults she added me on fb and was being super nice and it honestly weirded me out. Also I don't agree with yous statement that every kid is mean, I sure wasn't and the only person I ever pushed to the side (as in excluded) was one that bullied everyone often so I formed the no Estefanias club, but guess what, teachers didn't stop her from bullying us but the club lasted less than a day. It's always the same

Yes, I will never forget what some people did to me while I was in school. There was a whole girl group spreading rumours and lies about me, because one of them made up a whole scenario that her ex bf cheated on her with me (they wherent even together, but still nothing happened between me and him). And all those girls believed it and made my life hell. I lost all my "friends" due to it and so much more.

I def think the middle school thing has a lot of nuance: if it was typical teasing and stuff that’s one thing they def could’ve changed in over 10 years but personally if I saw my middle school bullies getting popular over being so sweet (and idk if she has but if she/the bully claimed to get bullied themselves bc I feel like I’ve heard Mikayla say that before but I could totally be wrong) then I would absolutely have a problem with that because of the level they bullied me and what they drove young me to. In this case I just can’t see the issue with her past bc there’s no proof with the first person and no solid issues with the second

The ex-classmates from middle school etc. coming out against her are just trying to prove what a long track record of bad behavior Mikayla has. We’ve heard plenty of stories recently about how she’s not a nice person etc. so when people who used to know her also had bad experiences, they’re just backing it up with “she’s been like this for a long long time.” It’s all about the pattern of behavior. Also Mikayla used to be a menace on Tumblr back in the day so she’s really rebranded.

I think the bully situation depends. Looking back now that I'm pushing 30, I think some kids probably felt bullied by me and I had a hard time making friends. Like I have 0 connections of any kind from before college now. But I also had 0 social skills and a very spooky home life. I think I was just really awkward and too assertive and thought I was right all the time which can come off as mean. I think I remember doing things I didn't feel good about to try and make people like me. However, I never sought out people to dunk on or anything. I think you can judge someone who really really hurt people with vitriol and intention when they were younger. I don't think mikayla necessarily falls into the latter category based on what these girls are saying but I am not them.

That powder foundation review looks like the technique that those videos of asian cushion foundations use, which is using a really different color from the person's skin and then adding a blur only to the foundation color in editing so that it looks really flawless. It's relatively easy to do if you have some editing software. I have no proof that that is what Mikayla did but also no doubts lol there's no way you can see that much texture on her skin and then it all becomes absolutely flawless once the powder is on. Skin with powder will still have texture.

I disagree- the way people act in their youth is taken in account in various different scenario, from psychopaths to narcissistic traits, serial killers to pedos- bullying and people that bully in their youth should be held accountable MORE in the United States. In other countries it’s a serious offense that holds life long repercussions. Alot of people that were bullies in their youth that face no repercussions for it only learn to mask that as they become adults but some don’t even try to mask it. Some only apologize when they get held accountable for it later in life or in a very publicly damaging way. If you were a bully- if you were a menace to someone and you ONLY apologize after it becomes publicized- I’m absolutely going to judge you. I don’t care if it happened when you were 12. Kids can be treacherously cruel. There is a reason that youth are ending their lives in high numbers bullying is at the forefront and it’s a serious issue. Even as a youth. Being young doesn’t make you exempt when you know right from wrong. That’s the problem with the world today. We make too much excuses for morally reprehensible children. It wouldn’t be disregarded in a clinical setting, it wouldn’t be disregarded by a therapist or a psychologist- why- because it MATTERS.

as someone who grew up in a town with EVIL and disgusting kids, i KNOW they are still this way, but I havent hung out with them since that time so I wouldn't be able to provide evidence. I do understand where the girls are coming from, It is so incredible frustrating when everyone seems to looooveeee a person who you know personally is just the most evil, vile, person ever. BUT I do see how it comes off as obsessed and "unhinged." I would say just be careful with your language you are using against the girls speaking out as well. Because you dont know what they have been through, what their friends have been through, and seeing awful people become successful truly will break your brain and make you feel insane. I get that they need more evidence, but they most likely cant find any because it was so long ago, and those POC and minorities she DID attack (allegedly) might not want to come out now after seeing how these girls are being treated. A huge thing in the US about being a good "ally" here is speaking up for others. The second girl seems to be doing that. If the person she is speaking up for now sees a white woman get attacked, imagine the hate a Black woman would recieve you know? Just a different perspective. And even in the end of the video, youre exposing lies. So even if the girls have no concrete evidence, WE do based on just what weve seen her do in the public eye.

I was bullied a lot in middle school, early high school, and a little bit in my last year of high school. I'm 27 now, but I forgave my bullies shortly before I turned 25 because I know for a fact that I'm a much different person now than I was back then. I like to think my bullies can look back and cringe at their behavior the way I do about my past behavior. That said, if I found out that not only have my bullies not changed, but also now are famous millionaires who got their success by lying through their teeth about kindness and authenticity, it would bother me enough to post about it on social media. Maybe not in the way the first girl did, and then I'd take a step back and move on, but still. Took me a lot of mental work to forgive my bullies, and it's all based in the fact that I assume they're better people now. The whole sweater might come unraveled if one loose bit of yarn is pulled enough.
