Great to have you reacting to Angelina again. The guitarist is Ivan Mendez who played for Angelina during 2018 when she was in California. Alan Papier, on his KZbin channel, interviewed Ivan and also in a separate interview, Egil Claussen who played for Angelina in Norway since she was 8. Both guitarists, gave a similar account, of being invited to the Astar home and expected to socialize for hours. Later at night, Angelina would ask the guitarist if he knew a song. If he did, then they would set up the camera and record. Each guitarist said, most videos were the first take with no practice. @@robertsilva631 No doubt the Astar family was travelling a fair bit during 2018. Have no problem saying they changed their home to LA during that year. Point is, Ivan only played with Angelina while she was in LA and his first gig with her was in Mexico.

Your comments were quite spot on, she is 12, sitting down with her friend Ivan, pick a song she likes, he learns the guitar cords if he does not know them and away we go, result is what you just witnessed. I am a fan of Adele, so please do not take this wrong but after hearing this rendition you are likely to be a bit disappointed in the original, no disrespect to Adele, just the way it is. Very perceptive of you to surmise that Angelina and Ivan Mendez on guitar would just sit down and perform a song on the fly, one take...just phenomenal! This happened after Angelina moved to Los Angeles. Ivan was hired, more or less, to jam with Angelina over a period of months. The result was a collection of covers from a variety of artists...all of which are so, so enjoyable!

Having heard her live, I completely agree with your comment about feeling overwhelmed or deeply engaged with her voice while Ivan is playing. I play musical instruments and I can’t imagine playing with Angelina Jordan and actually keeping up. I would just get lost in her voice.

Ivan was her at-home accompanist while she was 12. He would arrive after working in an office all day. The two of them started talking about songs. Ivan would listen to the music of the one they chose while AJ downloaded the lyrics. They would choose a tempo then she started singing. Watch Ivan's face. He's hearing this for the first time. And this is the only take. That's her process.

Great reaction, DiddyD ! You were pretty much spot on with your remarks. The guitar player is Ivan Mendez, and he and Angelina recorded quite a few performances like this over the span of roughly one year. Whenever you see these two together, Angelina was ALWAYS 12 years old, never 11 or 13. And like you hinted at, all these recordings were unplanned. They just got together in her home, talking about music, and sometimes they would happen upon something that they wanted to try. These recordings are almost exclusively 1st time performances, on rare occasions two. And Ivan (and also Egil Clausen, another guitar player (you have seen him)) have said in interviews that if indeed they needed another take, THEY were always the ones to blame😅 And like you said, performances don't come any rawer than this. Great reaction, as usual. Yeah -- I love the rawness of this performance as well. AJ reading the words and singing them with such emotion is unreal. And yes, Ivan loves accompanying AJ -- great interview with him that I'm sure folks will link to. BTW this song has a very Renaissance feel to it for me -- like something from Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet.

Great reaction & commentary, you were spot on with with the fact that this was just a jam on a song neither of them knew well. Can't wait for more. Recently, Angelina's Mom, Sara Astar, produced a 16 minute documentary called "Angelina Jordan, 10 Years in the Making" that is narrated by AJ. It has snippets from earlier performances dating back as far as when she was 18 months old singing with a mic in her crib, then leading up to her 2 concerts in Los Vegas last Feb. You do have to watch the interview with the guitarist Ivan Mendez. These were absolutely spare the moment things that they did, and usually done in one take. He tells you how absolutely great the barefoot princess is. He said if it had to be more than one take it was because he messed up. a few other times he said he had 15 minutes to learn the song. The barefoot Princess absolutely an angel sent from Heaven.

No need to bother listening to the Adele version. Angelina blows her away. It’s not even close. Angelina’s is warmer, deep, and far more emotional. Angelina conveys the true meaning of the song and leaves you in tears pondering your own life and losses.

when Angelina,s family moved to USA the looked for a guitar player to accompany Angelina. there is an interview on KZbin on the Wrapped in a Warm Blanket channel, ( check it out ) where Ivan Mendez explains he would go to their house after work, have dinner and then Angelina would select some songs to sing and ask if he knew them, he would have a brief period to learn the melody and then they would get down and record it Ivan would follow Angelina and it was usually one take only
