Thank you for getting back to Angelina Jordan. She was 12 here, performing in a concert given to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the military band. An album, called It's Magic, was recorded a few months earlier, so it was also to promote its launch. I suspect the notes she refers to were more to do with the complex arrangement than the lyrics. Angelina sang a more jazzy version of this a year previously at the Proysenfestivalen, a much more laid back, stripped down performance with a superb trombone solo. Can't wait to see where you go next with our Little Powerhouse.

The best young female artist "IMO" just 17 years old today - Angelina sings better than already established world stars. No one can stop Angelina from becoming a world star. That's just how it is! Her first album will be released in 2023 with Republic Records. Over the years, she will become a legend for the great moments in the world. She has plenty of time. Remember she is just 17 tears old, which we forget when we see her perform. Republic Records who should also be praised for appreciating this unique talent.

Sir, the flower crown is a tradition to honor mother nature during summer and symbolizes endless love. That day, was the 200th anniversary of the band and the norwegian Big Wigs were in the audience. The band loves, adore and respect her immensely, during rehearsal for her album, the conductor asked for her advise on a piece of music, YES that much respect they do have for her. Glancing at the lyrics acts as a reminder for her to not miss something. Believe me, she knew the song very well going in. As you suggested she personalized the arrangement particularly with her interpretation of the lyrics. She is a wonderful storyteller and often times puts emphasis on phrases she deems to be most important in the song. When did this begin to happen? Probably at Norway's Got Talent (7 and 8 yrs old) but she really started to 'take charge' at 9 years old. Remarkable.

The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps) recorded the album "It's Magic" with 16 tracks in 2017/18 to mark the 200th anniversary and released it under their record label Forsvarets Musikk. Because of the special anniversary, they asked Angelina (Angelina was 11y) to do the vocals on the album. As a special tribute to Angelina, two originals by Angelina were also released on the album. On June 16, 2018, for the official celebrations and tribute to the orchestra, there was this spectacular concert "It's Magic' with many test screep prominent guests including the Prime Minister at the time, Erna Solberg. 👣💯 *AJ* 💯👣

Angelina actually knew the song well - Here she is performing a year earlier at age 11 also in concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKOXeoGGbd6beJI - Yes - she does read occasionally - but always carries a book out with her to the stage that includes all her arrangement notes as well as lyrics and the playlist - Angelina been writing or supervising her own vocal arrangements since she was 7/8 years old. She has been on video communicating her "wishes" to the bands she works with. Also, her current contract with Republic Republic records gives her the final say as to what she sings, how she sings, and how the arrangements are executed.

That version of cry me a river at 12 was good (I was there), but for the real magic, unreal jazz version of cry me a river you have to listen to the version 1 year before from the Prøysenfestivalen. GSA I thought the accompaniment of the military band didn't suit the song here. The combo performing in the link you provided and their jazzy arrangement was, as you suggest, outstanding. And, of course, the sound was much better and we're able to hear all the vocal subtleties as you mention. That being said, I prefer her vocals here because I believe she's singing in a lower key. In the higher key (in the jazzy version), she is mostly in her head voice, whereas here she's in her chest voice, which I find seductive and sultry and more pleasing to my ear. Don't know if I've got the music terminology correct, but hope you can get my point. Curious to hear your thoughts.

I think she knew the song quite well, she had sung it already one year before this with a jazz band at a festival, and also had already recorded it with this orchestra for their 200th anniversary album "It's Magic" - this was one of the concerts done after the release of the album to celebrate the anniversary and promote the album... But you have to remember that English is not her first (Norwegian), nor even her second or third language (Farsi and Japanese). and with such a huge repertoire at such a young age it is completely understandable that she has lyrics in a foreign language available and uses them, to me it is even more amazing how she's able to not loose her focus on her vocal performance while reading the lyrics ahead of time...

@@Nick-yj4jk I thought she moved to the US only at 12-13 before entering AGT? Only knew she attended Oslo Waldorf school and did her first ever studio recording there, and all of her early videos show her in Norway, or on Norwegian TV, with Norwegian or European orchestras and musicians... So she had already been living in the US as a baby? That would explain her amazing English diction at a young age (besides of course, listening to English music, Etta, Billie, Amy and so on...)

Very nice and humble reaction , I really do appreciate . You sir are an honor to your profession. One thing to know about AJ , she always serves the song first .Never shows off. You follow her chronologically, quite reasonable, but one to get to her later stuff without cheating on the choice you've made could be to react to a song she did at an early age and she cover again later. The one who comes to my mind is " My funny Valentine" covered at 9 and then at 16. I do love them both , different mood and abilities but both so enjoyable.

Great reaction to 12 y.o. Angelina. Like you said, she just commands the stage by her sheer presence, demeanor and calmness. And the way she seemingly effortlessly is able to sing these classic masterpieces. Every musician that has ever played with her KNOWS what they are dealing with, and it shows. On this same concert she also performed "I's A Man's World" and in that performance it sounded as if one of the clarinet players tried to compete with her. We could see Angelina turn her head toward the player for no more that a second, and she got her message through. LOL She's called "THE BOSS" for a reason. Not bad for 12 years old huh? Angelina Jordan creates a genius performance once again of a legendary song. Your comments were insightful and much appreciated. An excellent reaction, but keep in mind that young artists require more than just a great reaction. Angelina is not only a talented vocalist, but she is also a very special person! She is a committed humanitarian who gave her shoes to an orphan girl, and has helped raise over 20 million for children's charities. Her goal is to sing for the world to spread love and peace. If you support her values, then please support her career. More will support you ! Please help boost the analytics for Angelina and each aspiring artist you feature. I suggest posting links to their original video and their KZbin channels (Angelina has two channels, Official and Cover) in the description, if you have not already done so. Most importantly, EDUCATE fans by verbally encouraging them to use those links to watch, like and comment on the original video, and to subscribe to her official channels. I recommend doing the same for your own video and channel as you BOTH deserve equal recognition. I am confident your channel will gain many more subscribers from fan loyalty, by showing you are genuine, and proud to help ALL incredibly deserving artists like Angelina.

Sure, she uses prompts but she's 12 years old performing 14+ song concerts in a language she hasn't spoken all day. As you pointed out, many singers do it if perhaps not as blatantly, and it's usually to get the verses in the correct order or remember which bar to come in after an intro or instrumental break. It's the band's concert too; the album they're showcasing is a collaboration, so songs she performs regularly are sometimes lengthened to allow them their moments in the spotlight.

Barefoot priests - born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZbin video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

You're very perceptive, MJ. You've hit on the exact quality that makes Angelina's performances so convincing: her musical conviction. I think Angelina believes firmly in her own vision of the song. Paired with the right kind of musical accompaniment, this creates some amazing moments of complement and contrast that enhance the audience's involvement in the performance. She's so incredible. If you want to discover the most feel-good music video of all time, you should react to AJ's cover of When You're Smiling. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH3Yf4RsqJyZebM

Hhm, I cant imagine how she could lack familiarity with the song. She recorded it in studio with them after all, that concert was promo for the published CD.

This Young Lady is such a Joy and Personally, I believe she is a Gift to somehow "Help" Humanity through the Language of the Divine ... Sound. Her Original song Million Miles she wrote/composed after death of her Grandfather. Her original called Shield was for her Mother. There is a youtube channel out there from her Family which shares so much of her Gift. I've seen videos of her with Quincy Jones, Roy Blunt, Harry Bellafonte ...this Gem is highly appreciated and Respected from some of the best. I truely hope she stays true to herself and her mission to Help Heal Humanity. I would suggest a look at a video of her at 6 years old in a studio doing I believe Tom Jones' I Who Have Nothing. Amazing! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJu0i354pbuUm9U

Like others have said, I also prefer the version she did at 11. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIebeXyMgZeJeqc This one you reacted to strikes me as more of a showcase for the band.

A redo of the Michael Bublé cover. It is nice, but there is too much production and too many musical tricks. If you want to hear the actual song, check out the immortal Julie London. Come to that, if you love blues, check out all of her performances. She, along with her husband, Bobby Troup, created and amazing body if work.

This would have been a nice arrangement if the melody was played by an instrument. Horns fi. But with Angelina singing it, it's too much distraction for my taste. In particular the staccato themes. She can handle loud accompinament (it's just recorded too simple), but this is too jumpy for the lyrics. I loved the collaboration with the orchestra in many other songs (bought the CD), especially "This is a man's world". But there are other live recordings of her singing Cry me a river, that are much better! I think she knows the song well enough, but to keep up with the timing of the arrangement asks a lot of concentration. Very nice reaction by the way. You understand her professionalism and unique performing and musical talent! 🙂

As great as she is, remembering lyrics isn't one of her strong points. She will often preform with the lyrics on a music stand to refer to if she needs it. She would also read lyrics on her phone during home recordings. I can relate as a musician; the music comes naturally but I struggle to remember the lyrics.

Everybody else keeps saying how great this band's arrangement is, but I hate it! Would have loved to hear it with string or just a guitar. I keep thinking that the band is trying to show off and put Angelina's need secondary. They ruined it

You should really watch the version of this song that she did at another concert at age 11 with a live jazz band where she sings it in full jazz lounge mode and it is probably the best performance of the song I have ever seen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIebeXyMgZeJeqc. It is much better than this version in my opinion.
