That was grandma in the car with her ( they are inseparable). Angelina's popularity will grow to incredible heights but, yes, she will remain the Angelina we have come to love and cherish. She has become 'family' to us and therein lies the secret to why we feel the way we do when we listen to her sing. It's WHO SHE IS that touches our hearts. Her vocal and artistic abilities are off the charts but that soulfulness we hear originates in her soul and it transitions into a loving melody of words as she tells us the story of the song like no one else can. She is a humble, kind, caring and loving human being and that will never change. She is here to spread the love within her to all of us and she is inspiring us to be the best we can be as human beings so that we can help her make the world a better place to live for everyone in everyway we can. An EP is coming out (later this month!) and an album later on this year. The album will be ALL ORIGINAL music. Her team is probably organizing a world tour of sorts right now. Yes, she is graduating this year (June?) and her career is going to take off and won't everyone be thrilled to have an opportunity to see her perform live!

Sebs, in case you don't know, Angelina calls her style of music Jazzy Pop while Spotify puts it in its Retro Pop category. Her first experiment with this style was her superb, jazzy version of MJ's Billie Jean. You might want to go back and react to that song since it started her down this road. Her first original Jazzy Pop recording was 7th Heaven which you have already covered and loved. Thanks for returning to Angelina!

For me, it doesn't matter what Angelina is singing about, the integrity and kindness of her being comes through her magnificent voice and artistry. I feel like she's been a grown-up singer for years, but now she's getting to explore being an adult and making her own songs with this new album that we're all anxiously waiting to hear the rest of. I recently heard that this is going is considered to fall into a genre called 'Jazz - Pop'. They can call it whatever they like, but I just hope we get much more of it in her upcoming album that is supposed to be released this month. This improvisational form of singing is new and fresh, but does remind me of the greatest improvisational singer of all time, that being Billie Holiday, who just so happens to be Angelina's musical mentor. This is confirmed in the interview she gave Nadia Neophytou for an 'in depth 'article she wrote. Specifically, Angelina said, 'I have to say if it wasn't for the unconditional love that came from Billie Holiday's legendary music, THERE WOULD NOT BE ANGELINA JORDAN TODAY'. She also sdded, 'I am very blessed that her music found me very early'. For the uninformed, Billie Holiday was an uneducated, self taught singer who never had a mentor, and worked her way into the night clubs of Harlem where she was crowned 'Queen Of Jazz'. She brought elements of musicality that were so diverse, and never done by anyone, which included unique phrasing, nuance, inflections, breathy releases and a plethora of other musicality factors that separated her style from others. When Angelina sings heartfelt ballads, many comment that it doesn't sound like a child is singing, but an adult who brings forth emotions they personally absorbed in their lives. However, in addition to knowing Billie's history of life as well as music, Angelina would have come to realize two horrendous facets of Billie's life that affected the way she sang. One was knowing her father died when hospitals in the south refused to treat 'Black' people, and a poem called 'Strange Fruit' that talked about 'Blacks' being hung dead from trees in the deep south. Billie converted it into her own song and kept the name 'Strange Fruit'. It was banned by radio stations throughout the south but still was able to sell over a million copies. Angelina has heard all the great singers but only Billie is placed by her 'alone' at the top of the musical pedestal, and I believe she is able to tap into the sadness Billie displayed in many songs, using it as an inspiration to blend it into her own improvisational style of singing.

Her improvisational style is on full display in the recordings she did with guitarist Ivan Mendez during her 10-12 age. There is an interview by Alan Papier in which Ivan says most of those videos were one or two takes with Angelina searching her phone to select a song, then giving him 10 minutes or so to 'learn' enough to follow her lead. She is seen reading the lyrics during the recordings.

For me this is an amazing song, in her personal pop-jazz and it's so personal to Angelina, in full you see her style, her voice, her vibe, her elegance, her passion, her family, her wonderful empathy and creativity (the wonderful lyrics... and her so loved granny!). The greatest thing Grandma Mery ever created was Angelina! We are all so fortunate that through all her fame and popularity, she still has that sweet innocence and unspoiled nature she had as a child. Hopefully she will never outgrow that. And her singing just keeps getting better if that is even possible. I hope she never forgets her early initiation with jazz because that is where she truly shines. No one out there today can compete with her knowledge and interpretation of jazz. It’s a part of her being and flows through her without any effort or for thought.
