This rendition is the best illustration of all she has learned from Billie Holiday. She captures the true essence of Billie's inventive style of nuance, inflections, going from talking to singing within lyrical lines, breathy releases, and the real life-like pain Billie brought to her songs with emotion that was fueled by the death of her father when hospitals in the south refused to treat 'Blacks'. Also embedded in Billie's vocals was the ever present knowledge of how 'Blacks' were hung like fruit from trees throughout the south and inspired her song 'Strange Fruit' that was banned by radio stations throughout the south but still sold over a million copies. Angelina is able to tap into and channel these emotive releases of Billie and makes it understandable why she has stated, 'If not for Billie, there would be no Angelina Jordan today'.

From what I understand the video is of her rehearsing or recording in the studio. The audio is the actual finished studio recording from her album It’s Magic. She is 11 here. She performed the song a cappella for her second performance on Norway’s Got Talent. I believe she had just turned 8.

Have this album release and it’s a wonderful set of songs and dare I say “Magic”, her version of this song at 11, is and remains my all time favorite recording of it, of any artist, period. I feel like she honors Billie here and it’s forever recorded thankfully for us. Thanks for this one, ( at 7 she knocks this song out of the park as well) ✌️!

It’s impossible to say any Angelina song is her best because her span of genres, her approach, and her age varies tremendously as she gives us so many amazing performances. But this tribute to Billie-at 11(!) years old-has to be one of her most unbelievable performances. Her ability to recreate Billie Holiday’s style, sound, and vibe is impossible for someone this young, but there it is. And she knocks it off with no worries.

At only 11 years old, Angelina embodies and channels Billie Holliday in a way that even a professional adult singer cannot. Her body and facial expressions, her knowledge of where to sing relative to the microphone placement, her nuances, tone, and just general artistic prowess are on full display. She sang this song on Norway's Got Talent when she was seven acapella! That was incredible, but here, 4 years later, she has refined her craft as she is maturing, and this is a masterpiece. She is not singing the song... She is the song here! You noticed the album graphic floating across the screen during the song. It's Magic is a compilation of songs from a concert she did six or seven years ago. This was one of them. That album has tracked intermittently on and off iTunes top 100 jazz albums for the past several years. It just made a reappearance in the past couple of days as her new single is tracking in the top 10 on iTunes top 100 jazz songs. The new single is the jazzy version of Bad Valentine with Toby Gad on piano diaries.

Zack, This is where the emotions of the song comes from: Frank Sinatra co-wrote this song in 1951, during a tumultuous period in his personal life. He was going through a divorce with his first wife, Nancy Barbato, and was involved in a passionate affair with the actress Ava Gardner. The song is believed to be about Sinatra's complex feelings for Gardner and their tumultuous relationship. The lyrics of "I'm a Fool to Want You" reflect the emotional turmoil Sinatra was experiencing at the time. Lines like "I'm a fool to want you / To want a love that can't be true" and "Time and time again I said I'd leave you" express the singer's struggle between his strong feelings for someone and the realization that their relationship might not work out. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👣 This was while recording her album It's Magic when she was 11. She gave several concerts in Norway at 12 in support of this release. That album is on Spotify, and I assume other streaming platforms as well. There are two versions of this video on KZbin. One is with the final cut from the album dubbed over this video, you can tell that version by a jump in the video due to the video not being aligned with the audio. The other version is with the audio directly from the cell phone that Grandma Mery is recording this video with. That second one is as close as you can get to hearing Angelina while standing right next to her with no processing on her voice other than that caused by the cell phone. Needless to say, there is probably no other 11 year old on the planet who could top Angelina when singing jazz. And not many adults either.

You are right about these types of videos. When a reactor checks out Angelina for the first time many fans comment about the couple hundred videos on KZbin but they don’t clarify that they are across many different channels. If one visits her two official channels there are actually less that 100 videos and many are different versions of the same song or duplicates between the two channels. That’s why it’s important for fans to send links for videos.

She is amazing and always a surprise but having grandma Meri with her shows that AJ must also listen to closely to her advice and influences her more than I realized. Her jazz roots are so great that after doing 3 versions of Bad Valentine ,Toby and her released a jazz version on Friday 10/4/24 which is on iTunes jazz charts climbing to #5 in many countries and number 1 in Norway after 48 hours.
