Angelina is usually so calm behind the microphone, even in belts and emotional songs her face often seems tempered and controlled. It is rare when she gets truly aggressive and almost desperate as in her young performance of "I'll Be There". There are some moments here that possess that same fierceness. Another moonshot from Angelina - and it's just a practice!

She was very ill during the time 'I'll be there', coughing and having a fever, but she wouldn’t let her performance be missed. Her voice dropped too, I felt sorry for her, but she was a brave little girl and did it.

This was so captivating, especially because she accompanied herself on the piano! All very natural with a heavy bluesy, jazzy treatment and plenty of glottal attacks and vocal fry. The emotional impact is very gut wrenching…reminds me of her treatment of Wicked Game…

I think you sat on this reaction video almost as long as I sat on the original one ;) Glad you finally got it published :) Good idea to do several reactions and combine them. I liked the bloopers at the end too... nice touch. :) I saw a video recently trying to compare Angelina's version of this with some other artists... To me, there is no comparison. Angelina just playing around in her music corner at home puts more natural soul into this song than all of the other studio recorded artists combined IMO. Her style so raw, and (as always) so perfect for the song.

The emotion and passion Angelina pours into this song is spectacular to watch and hear. I have spent days going through Mery's Angelina page watching the vast amount of video's she has posted of all these behind the scene views into the life of Angelina and it is so fun to see. Thanks Pontus! I've been waiting for someone to do an in depth reaction to this video, one of my absolute favorites of Angelina's, and perhaps not given it's true reverence by most. Very creative idea to put multiple reactions over days together. Maybe you could elaborate more on your thoughts after the 4th listen compared to the 1st listen. My experience with this song and cover by Angelina is that the song grew on me over time. This was a really good cover by Angelina, it's so heartfelt. It's just a bit unfortunate that it wasn't recorded with a better mic. Now, here's a recommendation from me: If you want your jaw to be dropped completely you can play Rihanna's and Angelina's recording simultanously and you will notice how well she studied the original! BTW I also love your podcast, 'wrapped in a warm blanket'.

Thank you very much for this beautiful collage of reactions. It is always very nice to appreciate the great quality and love that you put into your visual works. As some have commented, what is striking in this essay (though not entirely) is the intensity with which Angelina projects her bond with this song. We know that artists tend to be very intense and even "in love", due to the deep emotional charge that artistic sensitivity entails. When I said "although not completely", I mean that Angelina has always shown that deep level of commitment and empathy with feelings, even when it was still impossible that she had lived something so complicated in her small and huge heart. Now, in full adolescence, that moment is approaching that many of us have foreseen and that we have not dared to pronounce aloud ... when you heard her "suffer" in the midst of her interpretations and our hearts, old and beaten, thought "...and to think that they have not broken her heart yet."

@@103mrg Sure I thought about that while writing, but that's called "emotional memory." It is what artists use as a resource when they need to interpret moods based on experiences they have not yet lived. With empathy and a lot of emotionality you manage to evoke those kinds of feelings. Early loss of loved ones and other unavoidable misfortunes can do just that. But the pain of a broken heart due to lack of love or any of the reasons for breaking up in a relationship, when you are already emotionally involved, after adolescence ... is the type of pain that no painkiller can relieve.
