Are you kidding me!? There is so much to take in watching this video. But, you know what? Just settle back, enjoy it, and understand someone like Angelina may come around once in a lifetime. In 2020 she has helped millions of people cope with all the stress associated with the virus. And, she gives comfort to those in need because that's what she does! A remarkable young singer with a voice that touches our hearts. Her heart overflows with love and will always reach out to support many humanitarian causes while, at the same time, remaining humble and so beautiful in the way she carries herself. Angelina, from your words in Million Miles, don't ever feel alone! We will always be with you. We love you very much.

Oh! My! Goodness! WOW! Even when she makes a mistake and realizes it, she is STILL mesmerizingly perfect!!!!! But the thing is that the "mistake" wasn't even her fault! It was the BAND and CONDUCTOR'S fault in having the tempo way too fast! That's what she was realizing and being annoyed with, even at this young age! Even her rehearsals are phenomenal! And the way she moves her arms and hands to the song is just a magical work of art in motion. I would have paid serious money to have just had the opportunity to be there and watch in person! She is astounding, not only as a first-class vocalist but as a special human being too!
@pedropsalles10 ай бұрын
She was clearly dissatisfied, and points her finger down indicating the need to reduce the tempo but also the volume of the piano. Because it wasn't just the tempo that was too fast, but also the way the piano played was wrong. Notice that in the first take, the piano is beating the rhythm (papapa papapa..) and in the second take it changes completely. She corrects the musicians and especially the pianist.

In the first part of the video (Take #1 of the song) I immediately noticed Angelina showing signs of nerves (a very new experience with Angelina Jordan after watching her sing over one hundred times with no sign of nerves whatsoever). The performance seemed rather disjointed and even stiff, unlike the usual connected, consistent, stable stream of beautiful, creative melodies that pour out through her voice as her heart emotes their interpretation at the feeling level. I listened again and noticed the impact of nervees first and immediately on her voice, which was not nearly as steady and rock solid as it always had been, even as far back as when she was 8yrs. old. I searched for other clues and noticed suprisingly that her eyes appeared to be wide open for the entire song, at least as far as I could tell considering the distance of the the camera from her and the absence of a zoom lense. I've always believed that closing her eyes somehow related to her traveling to that special place she often speaks of where she is calm, relaxed, joyful, and can effortlessly allow the music to flow through her. I wonder . . . ? So, with all the problems she had in the first performance I would rate it a 6.0 comparing it, of course, only to HER best. Please don't think that I am trying to criticize or belittle her in any way. I only had to hear Angelina sing two songs and she instantly became my favorite singer of all time. But being a musician (vocals, guitar, drums, bass, piano), a scientist, and a mathematician of more than 40 years my mind seeks to analyze and understand everything in spite of myself and often to my detriment. OK, in the 3rd and last time through the song, and if I remember correctly, the 2nd time as well, they slowed down the song's tempo, most likely as per Angelina's request. This did seem to help and it was very interesting to watch her in the last two takes attempt and often succeed in correcting many of the problems she had encountered in the previous take(s) With these next two takes Angelina progressed, ultimately receiving a score of 7, perhaps even 7.5 from me. But this is very unusual since previously my lowest rating for her on any performance has been aboùt an 8.6 with many a 10.0. Numbers of course are subjective and far from absolute and can tell only a small part of the story. They simply help our brain to categorize what we otherwise have trouble measuring, remembering, and communicating.

@mrpeppery4 жыл бұрын
I missed that at first but you are absolutely right! After the first version (where she really wasn't happy, lol) the tempo dropped significantly and then a bit more for the third and she was absolutely right - that was way too fast the first time. I just listened to the classic Etta James version and it was even slower than the third run-through. Same with Beyonce's version. That is a significant difference in tempo but not a huge one. It's amazing that a 7 y/o girl can recognize the difference but not a professional conductor...

Not only did she realize it was too fast for what she wanted to do but she got the people around here to adjust so third time they were in the pocket. That was anazing to watch. Even though I like Portrait of a Child and all the adjustments and arrangement compared to Portrait of a Man the best and video shows she was in command, this video clearly shows she knows what she is doing and has for a very long time in her very short time on earth so far. Simply incredible!!

It was an absolute torture to see her suffered through the fast tempo on the first take. Incredibly, even the adult professionals did not realize that the tempo was off and incorrect for the song. Angelina Jordan has been communicting with the grandma or her mom with hand gestures on stage or in the studio booth since she was 6 years old. It seems that Slapping down the left hand means 'this is bad'. And the quick sussession of the 'go away' gesture means 'stop the recording and taping for this is so suck'. At 3:18 on the second take, she's happy that the tempo came down quite a bit and you can see her hand gesture and a quick smile. She was in total control on the 3rd take and the tempo was brought to the right pace. It showed that she's such a pro at that tender age !

I bet she listens to the originals over and over again until it become part of her and then once she is satisfied she kicks it out of the park. Her hard work at her age just amazes me. Just amazing. She is a excellent example for other kid to look up to and I bet all of her friends at school do to just that. I say it gain that her parents did such a great job with her. What I find the funniest is that Angelina is not happy with the fast tempo chosen by the director and his band, whereas I thought they was doing just fine. Another funny thing for me is to watch the way Angelina expresses her frustration. Another one: when she indicates that the words you smile apply also to people who are watching her. The last funny thing: the way she calls desperately for help. May I say that Angelina is perfectionist, and rightly so!

All this gives me the bizarre impression of an extremely talented child fighting against adults who think they know more than she does but are wrong. She knows more. Except for the pianist who follows her carefully, the others do their thing as if they were the stars of the show. The intro is too long, the tempo too fast and the sound too strong. It must be hard on the musicians' egos to be lead by an 8-year-old. A true professional.

What REALLY bugs me is that in almost every video I have watched of hers, the music overwhelms her voice, I just wonder why?
@DonaldLancon4 жыл бұрын
That happens a lot when you record live music (with a single mic). You don't perceive it the same way if you're there in person because of additional directional auditory cues that are not well replicated in a recording, even a stereo one. The effect is similar to picking out a single voice in a noisy, crowded room: much easier to do in person than on a recording (or when using a hearing aid). That's why audio engineers are paid the big bucks…
