I think, I hope, that Angelina hears herself the way we hear her. I think she must love hearing herself sing as we do, probably a lot more. As a musician I know that what keeps you going for your whole life is finding out that you’re progressing, that you are getting good and that you are more and more free to express the truth of a song. I think she is absolutely devoted to truth and that every improvement we’ve heard in her singing is a direct result of her search for and finding better and better ways to sing the truth in song. Imagine hearing that voice and being the one creating it! And knowing that there is a world of fans right there with you hearing what you’re hearing/creating. It’s a beautiful circle of loving energy put forth, embraced and returned with equal love. I’m so glad to be part of it.

It's not just her wonderful voice and emotional nuance; she is also a fantastic arranger. She takes this terrific song that was a chart stopper for Avicii (he committed suicide last year at age 28), and rearranges it as a tribute to the man she had become dear friends with. We know that Angelina has experienced great sadness with the loss of her grandpa. And now she does again with the tragic death of her friend. And you can feel this sadness in her interpretation of this beautiful song. We all experience sadness in our lives, which enhances our empathy for the sadness of others. So as sad as her loss is, it will make her even better at something she already does unbelievably---transmit the emotions of the music and lyrics. Just look at her face and eyes and feel the sadness come through her voice. If that doesn't make you cry, then you have my sympathy. In the end, that may be her greatest talent. She makes us FEEL!! She is still very young, and she already experienced death multiple times, through a member of her family, through a friend and through almost all the idols of her covers. She is growing older too fast, by the day. It happens that i close my eyes and look at her gentle face, smile absent, and i see painfully the still image of suffering. And being born an artist, i suppose she must suffer terribly at times since we see ourselves so easily in her.

Yes and amen, i am born again and been baptised in the holy water of the Spirit less than ten years ago. Since we died with Christ at the cross and resurrected with Him on the third day, we too conquered death. So why is death still a living reality for believers? And, for Angelina, it is still the enemy? In my heart, i smile at funerals. When another friend of Jesus is no more with me, but sleeps till He comes back very soon, i do not cry on myself for the departure: i celebrate his or her life. May Angelina erase later on the sadness of her suffering heart and replace it, in songs for us, with the peaceful smile of a new abundant life and eternal victory. I salute you, John Battles.
