At this performance one of the backup singers was heard to say, “I can’t believe I’m singing for an eight-year-old!” This is one of my very favorite of all time performances of Angelina’s. Did you notice as they panned the audience how many people were there? And she was as cool as a cucumber! She was born to sing, and singing for others is her most favorite things to do so she’s just never nervous or afraid, regardless of the size of the audience. That in itself is amazing for a small child. I mean, really? She comes back to this Festival for repeat performances through the years. Thanks, Debbie. Debbie, all I can think of initially when watching this video are the mesmerized adult professional backup singers who defer to an 8-year-old vocalist in the spotlight! Angelina has stated that when she sings and closes her eyes she goes to a magical world of love and peace. It is not more evident than in this video when you watch her swaying to the music with her eyes closed. Yes, her ability to convey emotion that she has not experienced is unexplainable and a mystical quirk of nature. It would be so nice to see you play a minute or so of the original prior to playing Angelina's version, and you will be even more astounded by how she channels the legendary singers. Diana Washington did the original I think in the vicinity of 1960 give or take. By the way, there is only one thing that astounds me as much as Angelina's performance here, and that is that you have said you are a grandma. Hard to believe! Be well, and touch base soon 😊

I would bet all I have, that any artist who tries to do this song like this no one will come near a performance like this. It would be almost exact but without the same emotion Angelina has. That "quiver" is called vibrato and is used by jazz performers mostly. She can turn it on or off, fast or slow, even within a word, high or low - unusual for even seasoned adult vocalists.

Many artists just "sing", and then Angelina sings the same song, then you understand the emotions of the song. She has this god given talent of putting the right emotions in every song that she sings. When I listen to Angelina, I close my eyes and just listen....... And I listen to it again and again again.... I find small golden nuggets in the song, small nuggets only Angelina can put in a song. The crowd was in stunned silence. Debbie, this particular song is a favorite of many, many Angelina 'angels'. There are so many things going on in this video it is incredible. We all have 20+ songs in our top ten lists of Angelina songs but this one is apart from that list. It's on another level and beyond great. Personally, I've listened to this video well over 1,000 times and I still get emotional EVERY TIME I watch and listen to her sing. One of those "so many things going on" moments is when she sings "There's a rainbow before me", she puts on that magical half smile and we just melt. Debbie, yes, she was born to sing but there's more to it than that, isn't there? It is so obvious in this performance. Debbie, what you call her quiver in her voice, is technically a vibrato (from the Italian). Vibrato I think pretty natural in most singers, though, very unnoticeable. Her more pronounced vibrato for chosen notes is just part of her repertoire.
