The introduction in Norwegian before the song goes something like this: "Little more than a month ago she went all the way to the top as the youngest winner of all time of "Norwegian Talents". From her first stanza this girl has astonished us and given us goosebumps with her grown up beautiful voice. Angelina, welcome and congratulations!" (Audience applauds) - "What have you been doing since you won 'Norwegian Talents'?" Angelina: "Ehhhh.... I have been to school. It was nice" -"But have you been singing a lot?" Angelina: "Yes" -"And then we are wondering what are you doing this summer? Are you going on vacation or are you just going to travel around singing or what are you going to do?" Angelina: "I'm going to... I'm travelling" -"Are you going travelling?" Angelina: "Yes" -"Where are you going to travel to?" Angelina: "To the US" (Audience applauds) -"Hey that sounds exciting. That's a long way to travel. What will you be doing there? Singing or just on vacation?" Angelina: "Both" -"Oh both.. that sounds good. Cause when I think of what an 8 year old girl would be doing in the summer...eat icecream...go bathing...go to 'Tusenfryd" (amusement park). Do you like any of that?" Angelina: "Yes" -"Yes you must like some of that...for sure an ice cream. But are you ready to sing for us?" Angelina (smiles): "I'm looking forward to it" -"If you are looking forward to it. If only you knew how much WE are looking forward to it. Angelina and "Summertime"!

1. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. 2. Now, in this year of 2022 she stands at 6 foot tall and still in her mid teens. She still performs publically barefoot. 3. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to. 4. The reason she performs barefoot is to bring awareness to her public of the children worldwide who can't afford shoes of their own. She has raised millions of dollars for clothing including shoes for those unfortunate children. 💕

I am sorry for your loss, Josh. For those who want a translation in the beginning: The host says it has been just a little more than a month since Angelina won Norways Got Talent (Norske Talenter), as the youngest ever to win (at 8). From the first note, this little girl captivated us, and gave us goosebumps with her adult and amazing voice, she continues. She welcomes and congratulates Angelina. Then she asks what she has been up to after NGT. Angelina says she has been going to school, they have had a good time, and it has been nice. And she has been singing a lot, she adds. Then the host asks what she is going to do this summer. Angie answers they are going to USA, to both have holidays there, but also to sing (she was invited to "The View", to sing "Fly Me To The Moon"). She is asked if she gets time to swim, eating ice cream and going to Tusenfryd amusement park in Oslo. Angie smiles and confirms. At last she is asked if she is ready to sing, answers that she is looking much forward to sing this song. With the cutest happiest smile on her face, about to do what she loves the most 😊 I love this performance, it is one of her absolute best. Mesmerizing! The fact that they have placed an 8 year old girl alone in the center of this crowd (the backup singers and band standing on the stage a few meters away), and how she responding to that, is beyond understanding. She was a real pro even at this age. Thank you, Josh, you are one of the absolute best too 👍😊

And we saw her at that amusement park (Tusenfryd) a couple of years later. (Sorry, Josh, you shouldn't see it until you get to her cover of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" when she was 10. [grin]) As for her response to the question about being ready to sing, regardless of her actual words, it's clear that she was thinking, "Please, yes, just let me sing!" [LOL]

First of all I hope you're doing much better now, after your terrible loss, there's still God to take you in his arms and your whole family too. I always appreciate when a singer reacts top this song, because to me this was the song that made me fall in love with this lovely Angel and her amazing voice and to me, by far, this is her best performance of all, it was really hard to pick my top one, but everytime I listen to this performance not only does it give me goosebumps but also makes me tear up a bit, well... a lot actually, so thank you for doing this and I know you can always feel comfortable and cozy when you listen to Angelina because she takes you to a place that I can imagine feels like a second home to you since you're a singer and with a pure soul, like that from Angelina, you can find a place to run to and get lost in the beauty of each of her performances and then feel as if you've been renewed because this is what she does, sing and transmit the real meaning and sentiment of the song, emotions with every word she sings, just keep in mind in this video she's 8, isn't that amazing how that doesn't matter and you forget all about her age when you listen to her? well all I can say is thank you for your reaction and we (Angelina's fans) will keep you company everytime you want to react to Angelina, hope this helps. Greetings from Guatemala.

I read a comment by one of the backup singers who said, “I can’t believe I’m singing for an eight-year-old!” This is one of my very favorites by Angelina. I heard her say one time in an interview when she was probably around 9 that when she closes her eyes, she goes to another place. As as you watch her videos, you will notice she closes her eyes a lot while singing. I think it’s how she connects with the lyrics and is able to infuse so much emotion into them. Did you notice the size of the crowd? She’s been singing for big crowds since she was tiny, and that’s why she’s always so at home on stage. She has also said she never gets nervous-that’s obvious! Thanks for including her on your agenda-you will be rewarded!

I always notice when Angelina was at this younger age, whenever an interview starts throwing questions at her she gets a look of "can I just sing now?". She is still just a shy little girl that is unsure how to answer. Then when she starts singing she goes right into her zone, and all signs of shyness disappear. Here she is just 8 years old standing out in the middle of a sea of people, and there appears to be zero nerves. She falls into that world of the song she has created in her head and everything else seems to fall away. When she goes "into the song" the way she does, you can't help but be pulled in there with her. My condolences for your loss. It is nice to see that you and your friend are getting some comfort from music. As you will see in your Angelina journey, there are many times when Angelina turns to music to help cope with loss in her own life. Her tributes and dedications are all so beautifully done.

Sorry to hear about your loss and my condolences to the family. This was composed by a Mexican songwriter. This Bolero was pretty popular with Trio musical groups (groups that have 3 singers with acoustic guitars, for example "Los Pancho's") during the 40's and 50's in Mexico. The original title is "Cuando Vuelva A Tú Lado" translated as "When I Return To Your Side", is a classic standard in Latin America. Angelina's voice would absolutely fit the Bolero style of music since it's essentially "Jazz". She is just amazing and her voice settles my mind down and makes my day everyday!. Cheers.

I am certain that listening to Angelina sing will give them great comfort as she does for everyone of us. I truly believe Angelina is a gift to every person and each person only needs to accept her gift. This song holds a special place in my heart as it was the first one, by Angelina, I watched. Angelina has no ego and is filled with empathy (a likely source from which her emotion in her singing comes from) which among many other things, frees her up to reach her potential as a musical artist. Angelina will take us places beyond imagination, in fact she already has.

Somehow I missed this on my notifications, glad I finally saw it. When you forgot to hit record on the Dinah Washington video, don't feel too bad, proves how much of a artist you really are. When you were talking about Angelina changing her vibrato and tone to fit more with the song, it made me think about one of the things I find most amazing with Angelina is her ability to hear the most finest details of the songs she is covering and what about those details she chooses to be in the cover. Her ability to hear and then use so many different styles, tones, vibrato, vocal fry, it is just incredible.

The fact that you’re very involved the singing voice makes your opinions more valuable to many. I love that you care about who wrote the song, who made the most famous version of it, and how evident that you are moved by a great performance. So many music reactors don’t give credit to the right people. The most popular cover of a song shouldn’t get all the acclaim for the song, even when it may be generally acknowledged their version may be the best. Leonard Coen, Bob Dylan, and Dolly Parton come to mind as great creators of music that get overlooked by covers of their songs.

Presumably they had the on-screen lyrics because this TV show is called "Sing-Along at the Border" [Allsang På Grensen]. This was the first time she was on it, of course, but she returned in later years. Sometimes the audience sang along with her (as when she did "It's Now or Never" in 2017) and sometimes, like here, they didn't. BTW, there is a version of this with on-screen English subtitles kzbin.info/www/bejne/mamnZ6VoiNtqia8 but it has significantly lower picture quality.

Never seen that video translated before, thank you. About singing along, there are 6-7 performers in each of these shows, singing a couple of songs or more each, and the audience are offered a paper with lyrics, so they can sing along. There are 6 or 7 shows during the summer, one day every week around July, each holding around 6000 people (depends on who is on). They get around 35.000 people in total every summer. Angelina came back in 2016 and 2017. We missed the famous 2016 show, where she sang "Feeling Good", but we were there again in 2017. The fortress Fredriksten Festning, is an amazing fortress with a spectacular view.

Hi, Josh. What a thoughtful reaction. Your aunt had great taste, by the way, because this Angelina's performance is one of the most incredible. I'm sorry for your loss, but it was a beautiful tribute. The original version, as you mentioned, is Mexican, and it wasn't jazz, but rather a bolero. Here is the LINK so you can listen to the first version (with Eydie Gorme and Trio Los Panchos) from 1964 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJm4aWanrdJ-g68

Great message Josh. Music is indeed the thing that binds us together and lifts us up. And this song by Angelina and Dinah (it's DI-nah with a long "i", not DE-nah) is a good example. This remains one of my favorite Angelina performances. It takes place at a summer festival on the Norway/Sweden border. Angelina is coming off her NGT win, and the people of Norway see her as a National Treasure. pa1189j has created a fantastic mash up of Angelina and Dinah on this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH6baIWvhraKmbM It's amazing how similar they are in tone and phrasing. And Dinah is a 35 year old woman at the top of her game (having just won a Grammy for this song in 1959), while Angelina is an 8 year old little girl. You can detect her discomfort with the interview; a certain shyness in talking. Then the music starts and she transforms into this incredible artist who's rendition of this song is as good as any I have ever heard, including Dinah's. She performs this song two more times that I know of (probably a lot more). One at Singapore about a year after NGT (9 years old): kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4iqk2yidrRgrLc And one on Little Big Shots Britain at 10 (my favorite): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqCqlIKijb-Dj9E Close your eyes and you'll think you're listening to Dinah. They are all three fantastic! My condolences to your friend and her family, and you are very kind to react to her request. She knows a great artist when she hears one, and like her, I consider this one of Angelina's best (at this stage in her career). Angelina will be THE singer of her generation, maybe her lifetime. I'm very happy that you have jumped into the Angelina "rabbit hole", and I always love your reactions. Blessings to you and your friend. 💕

Those might be her only other 2 televised performances (I'm not sure), but she's sung this one *lots* of other times in other settings. I have almost 3 dozen bookmarks indicating at least partial performances of this song (many are either rehearsals for later live shows or different versions of the same performances - I haven't even seen all of them yet). There are at least 5 more "final performances" live in Norway: at (one of) her first solo concert(s) in 2014 (not sure where, exactly), at the Gulljazz festival in 2016, in the Kongsberg music theater also in 2016, and in Larkollen and Sandefjord in summer 2017 (Boris P. vids). In 2017, she also sang it in South Korea at the Muse in City festival and in Osaka, Japan. In less formal settings, she sang it trying not to laugh out loud in an early session with Egil (probably in 2014), and did it a cappella in an interview with Dorthe Skappel. I can post exact links if you want, but I can't do it at this precise moment…

@@DonaldLancon You don't have to post them Don, I trust that you are correct. The ones I listed are the only "formal" TV performances that I know of. I do remember some of the more "rehearsal" ones. Thanks for giving all that information. She's so incredibly good at performing this song, if I were her I would do it as much as possible. The Little Big Shots performance is where I discovered Angelina, and I was just in AWE! That's been 4 years ago, and I've been addicted ever since. Best wishes Don. 😊

William kzbin.info/www/bejne/pamkn3qwhtN3f9E This was another performance of "What a Difference...." (she starts singing at around 2:35) along with a shortened "Fly Me to the Moon" a cappella, viewed on a Brazilian tv show. I definitely feel her vibes of disdain for the interviewer!

@@103mrg Once I saw the video you sent I realized that I had seen it some time ago by another reactor. Zeus (Emerson) is a Brazilian who is a huge Angelina fan, and he has reacted to many (over 50 I think) of Angelina's performances. The quality of his video is better, and he also translates what the people on stage are saying. To say that he does not care for them is an understatement. If you, or anyone, would like to watch it, here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKWoYqV9lNuLoNU Angelina does not speak Portuguese, and seems to be uncomfortable, except of course when she is singing. Emerson has long been one of my favorite reactors and supporters of Angelina. Thanks for sharing this performance from Brazil. 😊

You mention how music can bring people from different cultures together. Have you heard any of the compilations from the Playing For Change series? A search here will bring up a dozen or more songs from which you can choose. They are all good. I don't know if you would feel inclined to react to any of them, but I think you would enjoy listening. Here's their mission statement: "Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world."

Josh, how about listening to the entire song without interrupting it and then give an overall reaction. The best reaction videos I’ve seen do that.
@SingerDadReacts4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim. If you do that, then your chances drastically increase for getting a Copyright Strike and three of those and your channel is deleted. Plus, my viewers are here to see me react and provide analysis, which requires that I point out things as they're happening. But, it's not for everyone. Thanks for watching. Not sure how those reactors are getting around that, actually. It's a very risky way to operate.

It is pronounced Die Nah Washington. I also listened to the original and was surprised how closely she sings to Dinah's version. I'm not going to ding an 8 yr.old for trying to sing like the records she listened to. I can't believe that singing in "her own voice" would be any different in the outcome. I think what she is doing is harder than to sing in what might be as easy to explain until she got older. Have you noticed how easy it is for her modulate her vibrato? Check the "Summertime" that she sang on NGT. She had been encouraged to just sing what you want and how you want. The fact that in her early years she can sing three songs and have them sound three different ways is pretty remarkable to me. This song was sung at my last wedding. While that didn't make past ten years, I got sick nothing lethal just a horrible pile of chronic symptoms. After almost eight years of tests and diminishing abilities, while it broke my heart I didn't blame her. The irony is just a few years after that she did get a bad diagnosis and passed a couple of years ago. Oh, there I go rambling about things nobody cares about. You don't need to apologize for anything. First, the song in it self can extract emotions, especially if you have memories of people who were close and are no longer there. Then there is the singer who should be face down in a 'Happy Meal' instead of singing songs that were hits back before we were her age, I'm 70 you get the idea. I close my eyes and the voice is coming to my ears is coming from someone in their 30's at least. Someone who has seen life's difficulties face to face and has had to deal with some misfortune. Then you open your eyes and the wonder begins anew as you see a child who is doing this Voo Doo to your heart and soul. Thank you for your reaction.

Your comments at the end were very poignant. If I may be so bold as to put my own interpretation on your words, music at its best communicates the emotional aspect of life. And to my mind, Angelina does that as well as anyone I've heard.

Yes I totally agree, Jan. I have seen a considerable amount of reactors after reacting to Angelina start to reflect about life and profound matters of the heart. Even some that you wouldn’t necessarily believe were comfortable addressing such issues. And somehow I think it really is Angelinas talent at work here, making us think about these things and ultimately making us grow a little as human beings. (Or maybe I’m just over rambling here) 🙄
