One night, at the start of the pandemic, while watching music videos on KZbin, I saw the thumbnail for this video in my recommendations. Thinking to myself, what is a child, with big red flowers in her hair, doing singing an old jazz standard? I clicked on the video and my life changed for the better since. The pandemic allowed plenty of hours each day to fall deeper into the rabbit hole. How could this child sing so well? Why am I understanding the lyrics to each song better than I ever have? Only 35 days until I see Angelina in concert again, for my 3rd time.

Andy, this is the second AJ video I watched, after AJ's performance of "Summertime" on NGT showed up in my feed (that's still my favorite AJ performance after "Bohemian" on AGT). This was in December 2019, just before the "official" start of the pandemic, before her "Bohemian" performance was broadcast. Suddenly I was stuck working at home, and AJ helped get me through the next couple of years. I'm sure that's true for many of her fans.

Madam Aleks, I was told by proud Norwegians, that about 3 weeks after this performance, Miss Angelina Jordan Astar was declared THE NATIONAL TREASURE OF NORWAY by her people. To this very day she holds that title and her country is sooo proud of her, even if she lives now in LA. She visits often her country and the rest of her family in Norway. We knew she was ready to sing during the interview when she put her tongue into her cheek! So many things going on in this video. Her poise and confidence are on full display. Dinah Washington's spirit must smile every time it hears Angelina sing this song. After she sang the line, "There's a rainbow before me", she gave us her now very famous half smile. She has been quoted as saying she is most comfortable in her life when she is on stage singing for people. The depth of her soulfulness is astounding and we are in total awe as we listen to her sing. Her music from these early years will never be forgotten and as her career climbs to new heights most of us will always want to listen to this every once in a while. Well, to me it makes sense that if we like someone, we always go back to the first impressions we have had of them. So it also makes sense that some of Angelina's earliest performances are imprinted in the minds of those who heard them at the time and "fell in love" with her. Since Angelina started singing till the present, I believe there is no growth, she just always had the greatness since she started. But her little body could not handle what she already had (in terms of what her vocal chords can do). So while she grew older what she always had became clearer and clearer. God gave her this gift, and I'm still waiting for her full vocal maturity, that is where it will all come out, what God gave her.

The video thumbnail that popped up at the end is a mash-up of this performance & Dinah Washington's original recording for which she won a Grammy. It goes back & forth between the 2 which sounds similar, but slightly different. Angelina is just as good as Dinah, IMO. You should click on it just for fun, not a reaction. Even though I believe she sang it even better in Singapore a year later, she looked a lot older with make-up, so the difference between her adult voice & her child's body is less stark. She is just so adorable in this & you accurately described her dislike of interviews, she just wants to sing. She has gotten a lot better with interviews over the last decade.

Just prior to this presentation when she was 8, Angelina had performed Billie Holiday's 'Gloomy Sunday' and many thought that Billie was reincarnated in her. This 'vocal chameleon' ability came forth again here, for she emulated the vocal sound of Dinah Washington so precisely.

Well then, seems I was projecting. I used to watch "Westerns" a lot when I was a kid. Grandpa's influence. Wild Bill sounded so right. 😊 I only learned of Angelina recently and though I do think she's excellent, you'll notice a pattern with me if you stick around. There are numberous songs she sang with the best Jazz musicians there are, no exaggeration here. They were very impressed with this 15 year old woman (her mind is around 20 years older than her body). Boris Palenovski is a family friend from St Petersburg, Russia who attended a great many of her pre pandemic festivals and concerts and upgraded the audio in them. Unfortunately, since then he has not been able to attain a travel visa and is no longer able to attend her concerts. But he still does upgrades on her videos and does a great job! There are also three TikTok accounts available for your viewing pleasure. angelinajordano ( with a blue check mark), slayforever (grandma Mery), and mosarz m also grandma Mery. slayforever has the comments permanently turned off, which is really nice! angelinajordano is a treasure trove of videos of Jordan’s raw vocals singing into her cellphone while walking down the street, through a parking garage, playing the piano, the electric guitar, the piano in a park, stealing Sign of the Times from Harry Styles, Love is a Game from Adele, Purple Rain from Prince (maybe not lol!) and myriad other way too short masterpieces, including her latest, Hopelessly Devoted To You. There is a massive amount of video material available on this girl, and not one missed note anywhere, no pitch correction and no autotune!

Great and beautiful reaction, Aleks 🙂 Can you imagine? I have been following Angelina from the year before this, and have heard pretty much any -and everything she has ever sung, in addition to having seen her interviews and all the other stuff. And the same goes for quite a few of her fans as well, or they are maybe 3-5 years in. It's quite interesting to learn how you at some point almost feel like she's family. The same thing can probably be said about many fans to many artists, but still, having had the ability and possibility to see hundreds upon hundreds of recordings of her from she was 5-6 years old (and even younger), has probably made HER case that bit more special still. And when you hear what she could do already at THIS age, it's not very difficult to understand where the love and fascination comes from, even from a purely artistic point of view. She is COMPLETELY different from pretty much everybody else 🙂 And on top of that; with time you get to know not only Angelina the artist but also Angelina the human being. And in Angelina's case, the latter is just as important, if not MORE important, than the first. And I guess you have noticed already that her fan base is a very dedicated and protective one. Maybe even a bit too protective at times. Some struggle to keep a level head about her, and tend to glorify and almost sanctify her, which some times can come across a little wrong or askew. When all is said and done, she is just a human being, albeit a VERY beautiful human being, inside and out. So all the love is very much justified, no question about that. I have to say yet again, Aleks, that I really love being a part of your journey with her. You are very quickly becoming one of my all time favorite reactors. And believe me, there have been thousands. And thousands. You are doing an amazing job, and it is an absolute highlight for me whenever I see that you have a new Angelina reaction. Thank you so much, Sharky! I have to say, like Angelina, other young singers have a very devout audience, for lack of a better word. I've noticed the same with Dimash, Diana Ankudinova, Ren and Lucy Thomas. It is somewhat less prominent with e.g. Lara Fabian and Aurora, but still present. Though I can partly understand the adoration, I usually lean more toward respect and usually only in relation to their professional life. I feel like I'm prying when I listen to interviews and dig into their private lives. That's probably why you'll notice me avoiding that part of the conversation. That being said, it is still to me understandable that people who have practically watched them grow up in the public eye feel like they are family. Or perhaps have tons of memories related to songs by that particular singer. As I've said many times before, we are all different and that is a good thing. 😊 I have to thank you yet again for your support and wonderful compliments! p.h.s. As usual, you and I are in agreement. And I've thought a lot about some of the points you've made....... In trying to understand our fascination and endearment to Angelina, qualities such as creativity, humanity, musical genius, humility, etc. have been readily bandied about. And of course having been given a plethora of material where we've been able to watch her grow----- from an adorable hobbit who shattered the human cuteness scale to today's stunningly, elegant supermodel-if-she-wanted-it simply gives us fans much much more than we deserve. But it I makes me wonder: if I (and many other paternal-minded males) would have similar feelings had Angelina been a little Angelo. Would we have invested the same amount into a little boy? Any thoughts??
