Listunova on the other hand if Valentina changes her mind would have a chance but I’m not 100% sure of that either

I heard that there isn’t a chance for Russia to qualify a whole team but they can send individuals, is this true?

The only chances to Quality full temas are the 2022 medalist at team finals and the 2023 top 9 teams in quals. The rest, only individuals (3 athletes max)

Yes but the individuals they can send are limited. Melnikova will not be eligible because her training club CSKA is associated with the army. Listunova could be though

@@Plaspos IDK about Listunova anymore. She was seen at a public event promoting the war. I believe Melnikova could if she switched clubs, but she'd have to do it quick and it would be a pretty big decision on her part. But hey the Olympics are a lifetime experience so maybe she will.

@@nicolethomas9 Individual athletes can, provided they are not under contract with the military and have no publicly supported the war. Gelya's club is affiliated with the Russian Army and she was seen at pro-war rallies. It is unlikely that they'd find her truly neutral.

@@aguti7920 As a team, yeah they don't have a chance, but if Melnikova switched gyms she could in theory qualify through a World Cup as a neutral athlete, but ultimately it will depend if France will grant visas to Russian and Belarussian gymnasts.

She looks great, although I understand the ban I am sick of the war and politics ruining entertainment. Gymnastics is much more dull without Russia, although I become conflicted due to the fact Ukrainian athletes have no where to train and I wouldn't want to compete against them either. Then I feel as though Geyla and Listy having served a lengthy ban, the time of their sentence is up for something they cannot control. I am not sure it is safe for Russian athletes in Paris? Such a mess!

There’s no such thing as politics separate from sports. I mean, Putin literally funded a state-wide doping program so that his athletes could win the most medals and fuel nationalism. It’s what every single dictator does, to distract their subjects from their political mishaps and oppression.

People who think most Russian athletes are just innocent bystanders need to pull their head out of the sand. Angelina Melnikova is a phenomenal gymnast, and I was delighted when she medaled in the AA! However, Gelya and many other Russian athletes have actively participated in the promotion of the same "Russian World" ideology that fuels the horrific murder of Ukrainians. Never forget Bucha. What country thrice violated the Olympic truce? Russia. What county had an underage athlete test positive for banned substances while their team was still being "punished" for doping? Oh, yeah...Russia. The corruption affects sports. International sports have always been and always will be political.
