@@JasmineTheSaint just because someone has an opinion about something thing doesn't mean they shouldn't compete. Personally I don't agree with her views but she is a beautiful gymnasts. Whats to say some countries in Europe don't want the Americans to compete because they support Israel killing children with US weapons. As long as the person is healthy, follows to sport’s rules and does not dope then let the best athletes win in their speciality!

@@silverpurkat Your comment suggests that you are IGNORANT. First, the Russians WERE ALLOWED to compete as long as they met a certain criteria. NONE of these athletes seemingly met that criteria and that is why they will not be competing at the Olympics. Two, proof that it is not a ban against RUSSIAN athletes per se is the FACT that there will be a few RUSSIAN TENNIS players competing there and in other sports. Three, FIG has made it CLEAR that the Israeli situation is NOT akin to the Russians and that is ABUNDANTLY obvious. The Russians invaded Ukraine and broke the *Olympic Truce* while Israel on the other hand were provoked into a war by a TERROIST organization. Four, the US government DOES NOT sponsor/control/manage ANY SPORTING entity. As such, AT NO TIME can an athlete's words or actions be DIRECTLY LINKED to the government whether in support or not.
@adaagratini9328
@adaagratini9328 Ай бұрын
@@aliciamcdonald7105you honestly believe that Israel was provoked into a war? Do you honestly understand how Israel was formed and why all of these countries are actually fighting each other? Also, are you aware that at its core the Olympics used to be held in Ancient Greek-States even if the states were at war with each other? Nowadays, double standard is an issue. It really baffles me when people believe what the press promotes and also that people believe there is a good and bad side and that the side they are one wants to fight for the good of their people and not the riches of the people in power. Ordinary people on both sides and all sides are suffering because the people in power want mote power and more money. Promises and pacts and agreements were broken on all sides. The Olympics have been political since the Iron Curtain. If you are not from an East European country, do not assume that you know for certain that the athletes support their government because they want war.

Yes, being critical is dangerous for them, but come on … They do have a pretty good idea what the rest of the world thinks of their "military operation". And if only states like China and North Korea are okay with a war YOUR OWN COUNTRY STARTED and the rest of world is like "Get the f* out of Ukraine", you probably should start to think something's off. Not buying this "Those poor little things are brainwashed, they cannot think for themselves" nonsense. Sure, voicing criticism is a totally different thing all together, but to pretend the Russians are mere victims of Putin's propaganda is bs.

The irony of Russia's head coach talking about unfair scoring is beyond the pale. How many times have Russian teams been caught bribing judges in Women's figure skating alone? Give me a break. I do feel for her athletes though. Heartbreaking and unhelpful to have someone refuse to take accountability for widespread doping and the invasion alike. Always a victim card from Russian gymnastics coaches. It's an incredible testament to their athletes that they can build strong performance with such a weak minded victim attitude from their coaches.

I hate that politicians have ruined so many athletic competitions over the decades. That being said-the international community should outright ban athletes from competing if their country is in open *offensive* conflict. Israel, Russia, Palestine (if it existed), Armenia, Azerbaijan, etc. -IMO, their athletes shouldn’t be able to compete as “neutral” because they’re not. They live/work/train/support in those countries. If they were to choose to move, defect, whatever-they should be barred from just returning to their flag when the conflict is over. Sport is supposed to be a civilized way to celebrate human achievement. War is the exact opposite.
