Not really contestants pack their own bags of clothing but production goes through it and is very picky about what they remove/replace. They are very weird about their rules. For example in WAW Ethan Zohn was allowed to bring his own hat but not allowed to where it at tribal council

You’re only allowed to bring “x” amount of items into the game. Either she sacrificed the jacket for another piece of clothing or production kept it because it had similar color/design to another player (they have done that before).
