Cool fact, they actually foreshadowed all of our main cast deaths in episode 2 Ali with the stolen money, and died because Sang Woo stole his marbles Sae-Byeok put a knive to the someones neck, and died to a slice in the same spot Deok-su jumping off the bridge, and died by falling off the bridge game Sang-Woo trying to take his life, and in the end does so. This show was beautifully crafted.

Gi-Hun basically chose his red hair because the “red” represents the color of “anger” and “furious” so this means he is angry. The red hair is not something Gi-Hun would do according to his character, so this tells you he is not Gi-Hun anymore.

"One Lucky Day" is a Korean Short tragic Story about a rickshaw who went out to earn money when his sick wife told him to stay home just for the day. He went out to earn money the whole day and forgotten about his wife. And when he came back with the money, the wife was already dead.

So Gi-Hun is the rickshaw and it is his mom instead of the wife in this scenario. It really is tragic but is so cool that they used that as the title as i'm sure it is a major inspiration for the whole story but with a modern twist.

Plus, Gihun went into the squid game because he didn't want to accept the money for not seeing his daughter again. So seeing his daughter is more important to him than his own life. If he decided to go fight against squid game instead of seeing his daughter, it means he is sacrificing something that is more important than his life.

Oh I've been waiting for you to reach the end to say this: the participants' deaths were foreshadowed by what they were doing in ep 2 before they re-entered the game! Ali took the money and ran; Sang Woo took his marbles and ran. Deok Su jumped off a bridge to escaped the debt collectors; he died falling from the glass bridge. Sae Byeok held a knife to the broker guy's throat; ultimately died being stabbed in the neck. Sang Woo attempted suicide in the tub; killed himself in the rain. It's been fun watching your reactions to this series, and I can't wait for more arcane!

Gi-hun dying his hair red was the director’s idea: He said that it was an outer representation of GI-hun’s inner rage and that he did it as a marker of how different he is now from who he was before, how the games changed him. Loved every minute of this show and of your reactions! 👍👍 The “Koreaness” of the show (if I may put it that way) was very interesting for me as I’ll admit that Korea is a country I knew little about the cultures (It being often overshadowed by Japanese and Chinese cultures in Western film and tv) and was therefore really pleased to learn about it. Really enjoyed the acting too: So many great actors in this who really made you feel for the characters; even some of the secondary and tertiary roles were very well casted on top of the primary ones. I really hope season 2 focuses on In-ho: Would love it if most or all of that season would be flashbacks to 2015 that would show us how he entered the games, the games he played, what he had to do to win, how he kept his winning hidden from his cop brother and his mother and how he finally took the decision to join the organization. I’d be ok with not even seeing anything about Gi-hun in season 2 until the end scene of the last episode and only catching up with what he had been preparing for going after the organization in season 3: I think that would create great suspense and expectations!

As the director has already confirmed, Gi-hun "will do something" in season 2. He also said the sequel will delve be more into police involvement. The detective most likely has survived the "cliff dive" and will team up with Gi-hun. You probably didn't pick this up but when they showed the frontman's 2015 player profile, it show that not only was he a police officer but he was at the National Police Agency (similar to FBI). He was also terminated for bribery before he joined the game. The bribery probably had something to do with his brother's kidney transplant (black market?).

The old man was a really well done mystery. Going back all the clues were there he was special.

I thought he's a returning player at the very, very beginning. The number 001 somehow gave me a weird impression. The first player. Always smiling, clever, with lots of knowledge and experience. I thought he went through the games a few time.

His motivation was a letdown though imo. I wanted him to have some kind of larger purpose (like being a self made billionaire with a god complex and believing he could form “better”/more deserving elites than the ones the real world creates through the squid game rewarding the smartest/strongest/etc) and that Gi-Han’s kindness toward him would’ve resulted in him “earning” 001’s support/help behind the scenes once he returned to being the host. I’m just not in love with the nihilistic bad guy trope.

Damn good social commentary on the desperation that people go through when they don’t have money and how they’re taken advantage of, and yet the main effect it had was that a ton of people made the cookies from episode three. Wonderfully written and all the acting was amazing. Looking forward to season two. EDIT: the fact that Gi-hun dyed his hair reminded me of how Travis Bickle got a Mohawk haircut before trying to assassinate the Senator.

Why red hair? They said it symbolises his rage. There were so many hidden clues for the old man. He was 일남, #1, but the roster that the cop found started from #2. The riot was stopped the moment he said he was scared. He was the only person whose manacles weren't locked to the rope in tug-of-war. Unlike other people, his "death" was off-screen (and away from other players' eyes). We saw the Host from the back, but we did get a glimpse of his hands, hands of an old man.

The episode's title is a reference to a Korean novel of the same name written in 1924. The novel tells the story of a rickshaw man whose wife is ill, and wishes to have some ox bone soup before she passes. One day, he manages to earn a lot of money and buys the ox bone soup for his wife, only to find her dead, just like Gi-hun finding his mother dead after winning the Squid Game.

The episode is titled "one lucky day" and is in reference to a story by Hyun Jin-Geon. The story is basically about a poor man who leaves his severely ill wife and child at home and goes out to make money despite his wife asking him "please do not go out today". He gets really lucky as a rickshaw-porter and is able to gain a good sum of money to afford seolleongtang for his sick wife as well as booze to celebrate his earnings. He comes home late and drunk and discovers his wife dead with their child in her arms. His lucky day ends with him crying alone. In Gi-Hun's case he finds his mother after leaving her in a critical state for financial gain and returning successfully only to find her dead body. So much pain. (Summarised the story based on my memory. Sorry if there were some things I got wrong!)

Also, I can't wait for season 2. I don't think cop guy is dead though. He was shot in the shoulder, fell into water, we saw no body. Usually that means not dead, so I hope he comes back and teams up with Gi Hun. And then I hope, instead of focusing on the contestants of this round of games, focusing on the shape guards. There was a lot of depth teased about how, why and who the guards were, many were "just kids" so what has brought them there. They were being controlled almost to the same extent as the contestants.

it's interesting how different people piece different things together. I have missed a lot of twists others found obvious in other shows or movies but the two big reveals of this show, the cops brother and of course, 001, I found incredibly obvious from the beginning. He's literally the ONLY elderly person there which would not make for a good contestant, makes no sense for them to have targeted an old dying man who didn't have much to live for and he was thrilled to be playing while everyone else, even the cruelest of the contestants were traumatized. Not to mention he literally was able to command the game master to stop the fighting is episode 4

if you want more of korean shows and movies aswell as sang-Woo's actor i really recommend a movie on Netflix called "time to hunt", it's really well done and one of my fav korean movies, it's about a group of boys who have to steal money to survive but they are chased by an assassin (park hae-soo, sang-Woo's actor)

It's so great that you recognize so many little details throughout this series. The guy that came up with this show had the idea since 2009 and only a few years ago Netflix decided to pick up on it. So it had a long time to evolve to this complexity and perfection. Some examples: The games being on the walls the whole time, the shapes always being included like at the dinner, the foreshadowing of the deaths

Season 2 will be revenge story. For a taste, watch Old Boy (2003) imagine gi-hyun as Oh Dae-Soo and the front man as the antagonist. Especially since the end part of squid game has gi-hyun talking to his daughter with a present and the beginning of Old Boy has Oh Dae-Soo talking about seeing his daughter on the phone with a present.

The one problem I had was that the little brother and mother got left in the wind for a while year. She lost her shop and only has a small one out in the cold. The brother was abandoned and alone for that whole year. I just thought that the families would have been taken care of before he fell into despair.

It's really interesting seeing how people react to the ending. I was like you, I hated Oh Il-Nam, but also not, because he was speaking truth. Some people saw Gi-Hun walking off that plane and were cheering him. I was like you, I was MAD at him, and that anger started to make me think... His personal failings at a number of turns throughout the series have my mind going down dark paths when it comes to Gi-Hun's final destination. He's a morally motivated guy, but he failed the people around him repeatedly and mostly won the games on pure luck and the aid of those around him. Thinking back, the only game he won on his own was the 2nd one. Every other time he was saved, knowingly or not, by other people. He even failed in the last game, Song-Woo had to kill himself so Gi-Hun would get the money, so he could help SW's mom, and even then he let her struggle for a year because of his inability to cope with his guilt. I also can't forget how he stole from his mother regularly so he could bet on horse races. Gi-Hun is no knight in shining armor off to save the day. I'd honestly would have thought more of him if he'd just got on the plane, gone to his daughter, and used the money to improve the lives of those around him. Hell, at this point it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up sitting at that desk, wearing his own golden mask someday. I mean, he really likes betting on horses...
