Honestly she should have been the main character of the show and it feels like a giant miscalculation of the writers not to make her the focus. The personal journey ark of 456 was complete by the end of the season, he got revenge for Ali and made the tragic decision to kill his childhood friend/personal hero. It's a nice story, but needs no continuation imo. Her story on the other hand was just beginning, her experience with the other girl in the game was transformative to the core and there was no reason to randomly kill her off like that in order to focus on another one in a long list of aging dude protagonists with ridiculous haircuts

Its what makes the show, people being forced to compete to the death isn't new. Watching them choose it due to their horrible circumstances adds a different twist and weight to it. Makes it less about the actual competition and more the choices they made to give them only one choice left.

Well that depends...I watched the subtitled version but it had english dub over it. It kinda threw me off at first cause the actual dubbing didn't match with the subtitles 100% ...wish I watched without the english dubbing only due to the highly exaggerated lines. I think a fitting description to the show is that it's like a live-action anime. I did enjoyed it a lot Its just that some of the english dubbed lines were cheesy as balls..lol

The dubbed version is often a poor translation, because in a dub they also try to match up the sounds to the mouth movements, and so will change dialog to things with different meaning.

Squid Game had to change the original phone numbers on the name card in their post-streaming production due to the claims from some unfortunate people that coincidentally had the same phone number to the card's one and got so many random phone calls from all over the world. That is why it's got only a 6-digit-number on the show right now.

Hey Natalie, you should react to the show ARCANE as well! It's a beautifully animated show on Netflix that just released and has 9 episodes divided in 3 acts of 3 episodes each, and it tells a story in the League of Legends universe (the game). But don't worry, you don't have to know the game to watch the series! I myself don't play League and I fell in love with the series so much!! For me it was the best thing that came out of 2021 by far! It's currently 100% on rotten tomatoes by critics and 98% by audience! I'm sure you will love it as well!

Lee Jung-jae (Gi-hun) is one of the most famous actors in Korea, and also very humble. An American reporter asked him what it felt like to be so famous now and getting recognized everywhere, and he didn't correct her or act offended that she didn't know his background in Korea, he just answered it very politely. Jung Ho-yeon (#067, Sae-byeok) is also a fairly famous model in Korea, and does a great job acting in this show :)

I know you suspected this but it didn't seem like it was 100% clear to you: When Sang Woo is in the bath tub, he is indeed trying to commit suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, hence the coal briquettes. I think commiting suicide in that way is more common/known in South Korea than in the US, and due to that a lot of reactors don't understand the gravity of that scene (and the phone call he has with this mum before it) / what's happening.

Great to see you reacting to this show Natalie! The intensity level never quits. Very disturbing but also gripping. You want to look away, but you can't. No spoilers of course, but I heard an interesting bit of speculation on a podcast that reviewed this show - the theory is that the red-suited staff members are those people who picked the red card in the recruitment game with the face slapping instead of the blue card. I think that makes A LOT of sense, but who knows? Maybe that'll be revealed in S2??

You need to watch Arcane next. It just knocked Squid Game off the top of the Netflix chart and is currently number 12 in IMDB's top 250 TV shows. It has probably the best animation I've ever seen in a show.

Love how you speak of how much you liked HoYeon Jung because she is not an actress never acted a day in her life before squid game , she is a South Korean model and actress. She began her career as a freelance model in 2010, she had to learn north korean dialect and play a North Korean defector which is huge not only for a first role to ever play but a responsibility to do her role justice. Her fame has sky rocketed since squid game very rightfully so she is amazingly to talented and sweet and has a bright future ahead of her.

It reminded me a lot of Battle Royal and I loved the "Infinity Staircase" Fun Fact - The actress, who became a fan favourite as Squid Game's Kang Sae-byeok, was a supermodel before she became an actress; in fact, Squid Game marks her very first acting role! PS..212 is my favourite.

Something that isn’t that important but cool when you notice it is the ranking of the guards. There are the squares at the top, then the triangles, and lastly the circles (the Frontman is above all of them, obviously). There is usually one square for each team of triangles or circles, the triangles carry the guns, and the circles usually do the busy work like cleaning up after each game and cremating all the bodies. That’s why it was easy for the square guy (the boy that gets killed by the Frontman for showing his face) to notice the cop wasn’t at his right station, which prompted him to scan his mask, since he had a circle on his mask and everyone else in the room was a triangle (since they needed the guards with the guns to be able to kill those that lost). Love the reactions as always! Just thought I’d point this out because it’s not really explicitly mentioned, but they are consistent throughout the show with that hierarchy and those roles.
