That's my issue with religion it would be easy to dismiss religion as nothing but evil but that's the problem it isn't. Yes some of the most evil acts in history and prob future and now are committed in the name of various many religions not one religion can claim to be clean. Yet some of our biggest acts of compassion are carried out by those who believe or by religious orders the monk orders in England for example back in the dark ages were often the closest thing to social and community care. It's why religion is a mixed bag for me I want it to be dismissed but it also helps provide a lot of moral courage to many

Matthew 16:18 "Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The popes are the apostolic successors of Peter, the rock upon which Christ built His Church. The word "pope" simply comes from a word meaning "father", and it's not even the actual title of the position. The Pope's official title is "Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles (i.e. Peter), Supreme Pontiff (meaning "priest" or "builder of bridges") of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God".

Patrick Miguel M. Andrade The gnostic sects denied the importance of a clerical hierarchy. The Catholic Church certainly did not evolve from the motley Gnostic groups, in fact the Church decried them. Additionally, it should be noted that the lifespan of people in The first century could not have been over 60 and the majority of people were uneducated and could not write. The entire New Testament was originally written in Koine Greek but the apostles and Jews spoke a different language called Aramaic. It is extraordinarily unlikely that the poor illiterate fisherman that make up the apostles could have had the funds required to learn how to write fluent Greek as well as it was done in the NT. The earliest texts are the undisputed Pauline Epistles which would be Thessalonians and corinthians and some others. But the majority of the NT was not written by the name we have ascribed to them or that found on them. For instance, the Gospel of John was not written by the apostle John who was the youngest apostle at year 33 CE, Christ’s death year, because the Gospel was written in the 90s CE. People did not live that long no matter how young he was. The history of the assembling of the Bible, especially the New Testament, is very important in its interpretation.

By far the better ending than the book in this case. The interaction between Langdon and Camerlengo is astonishing because you can for a split second just see how affected Langdon was by his words. Although driven by academically knowledge and rationality, you can see it in his eyes that he almost let his own faith to step aside and absorb the words that was told to him by the Camerlengo.

I hate how they change the book endings, the book endings in this case and in the case of Inferno are so much superior.

This was one change that I liked. In the book, all 4 _preferiti_ die, and some other cardinal (mentioned over and over in the book) becomes pope. Which makes sense, but only if you read the book. But in the movie, that would be tricky to do, i think. I like how they saved one of them.

I think there will be a pope named Luke in the near future, esp if he sees his mission is to heal the Church from all the problems it is facing today and also to promote a reconciliation between the Church and humanity.

im agnostic, i have many in my family including my own mother is was catholic, i have made comments that humans need religion to shelter their fragile minds, and while I still believe that. I understand the need to believe in something, I am not among those who does but I respect those who wish to believe in a god and a religion whether it be perfect or not.

The Cardinal spoke truth that everything is flawed.. we are ALL sinners, save one young girl whom bore the Savoir into this world. She was the perfection of God' creatures, the reason a part of Heaven fell because the Archangel in charge when it saw her did not want to share her, even with God. May God be with all, in this time, we NEED Him more then ever. And He is coming...

I have a friend of mine who is Catholic, and I identify as Astarü (Norse Paganism), and we get into, I wouldn't say argue, mostly debate on faith and how God would've needed help with Creation itself. The part where Straus says, "Religion is flawed, only because men is flawed, all men, including this one". That is the one thing that we agree on. Powerful words, no matter what subject.

How appropriate that the new Pope, who was a doctor in his life before cardinal, takes the name of Luke. As you are well aware, Luke was a doctor in the early Christian community in Jerusalem and accompanied the apostle Paul on many of his missionary journeys to Asia Minor and Greece. He obviously wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, describing the rapid expansion of Christianity via the hand of Paul through the Roman Empire. As one historian put it this way: "When Paul and Luke ventured out from Jerusalem, the gospel they were taking with them would travel first by sea and then by roads. For the seas of the Mediterranean lead to the roads of Asia Minor, the roads of Asia Minor led to Greece, the roads of Greece lead to Rome, and the roads of Rome led to the whole world."
