"Angels We Have Heard on High" is a Christmas carol which uses the melody from a French song called "Les Anges dans nos campagnes", which goes back to at least the 18th century. (The English lyrics were written by James Chadwick. In England this tune is often used for the carol, "Angels From the Realms of Glory".) The hurdy gurdy was very popular in France and elsewhere at one time. Hearing the carol played in this duet makes it easy to imagine being in a French home, tavern or small parish church at Christmas.
